Hawk to retire at the end of 2018 season
QUOTE (Sox-35th @ May 31, 2017 -> 06:36 PM) To most people. Half the board here, all of the national media, various ranking sites. I like Ken Harrelson, but he's not fit to be in the booth anymore. Enjoyment isn't a popularity contest. If who other people like is that important to you, you should probably think of converting 8 miles north.

2017 MLB DRAFT
QUOTE (bmags @ May 31, 2017 -> 04:19 PM) Olerud career slash 295/398/465 roughly Smoak 213/310/405 Hosmer is closer but lesser. Smoak isn't same atmosphere. Olerud gets thrown around a ton, but its likely he is the absolute ceiling, not the likely comp. Aren't comps usually based on ceilings when you are drafting kids? I mean no one in their right minds thinks these are major league ready kids as of today, so the expectation is that they are going to grow and develop into those projections, not that they are those guys right now.

Hawk to retire at the end of 2018 season
Very sad to see the end of this era. I mean there is no one person you can identify more with the White Sox over the term of the JR ownership than Hawk. I get the skills have diminished, but all a year and a half of Benetti has done is make me dread this day even more. Love ya Hawk!

I AM WHITE/AMERICAN PRIVILEGE
QUOTE (Reddy @ May 31, 2017 -> 04:10 PM) No. Translation: you're being massively hypocritical and you know it, so you're avoiding answering the question. You are bitter about the way I view your points of view, so you want to find something on me to "trap" me on. You just admitted as much right here. You wonder why people don't respect your opinion, well here you go. You are more worried about sticking it to someone than the topic at hand. It isn't the first time you have tried the time held questioning of credentials to disqualify technique.

I AM WHITE/AMERICAN PRIVILEGE
QUOTE (Reddy @ May 31, 2017 -> 03:54 PM) Still excited to hear SS2K defend why what I do marginalizes blacks, but his work doesn't. Do the kids you work with need you? Do they depend on your organization? Does your work improve their lives? Inquiring minds want to know. Translation: I need to use talking points, please provide me with something I can use to trigger those talking points.

Updated teams interested in Q
QUOTE (bmags @ May 31, 2017 -> 03:19 PM) I remember something like that for Q but the Boston Globe had a great story breaking down the talks with Dombrowski and Hahn providing quotes. Two stuck out: https://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/redsox/2...LLLP/story.html Phil Rogers made the tweet about Rodriguez and Benitendi on the day of the deadline.

Updated teams interested in Q
QUOTE (bmags @ May 31, 2017 -> 01:51 PM) I have not seen a report that said that. If anything what I saw was that Hahn went into the offseason saying he'd come down in price and that we weren't serious in July. We had a deal around Kopech/Moncada and were haggling over Devers. Reports from around the time were that Moncada would not have been in deal, instead it centered around Benitendi and Rodriguez.

Just Sayin: 17-13 Against The Division
QUOTE (Sox-35th @ May 31, 2017 -> 12:52 PM) Yet the Cardinals and White Sox had similar operating income in 2014. I mention the Astros because they have the talent to be in it every year. I mention the Cardinals because they're in the race every year. Every time they let a guy go, they replace him with another guy you have never heard of who produces for them. That's what we need. And don't give me that "the White Sox don't pay their players" nonsense. If we were good, we would draw a lot more than we do now and we would have the income to keep whoever we need and move whoever we don't feel is the right value. People have gone off of the deep end with their expectations if they are expecting the Sox to be an annual playoff team because of this rebuild. There is zero comparison between the Cards and Sox. The Cards have a loyal and large fan base, and they are also near the top of baseball in terms of revenue. As of 2016 the difference was $50 million. They have four contracts on their team currently which are bigger than any contract the White Sox have handed out in their team history.

Just Sayin: 17-13 Against The Division
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 31, 2017 -> 12:48 PM) 5 straight years in the playoffs? I mean... And just for reference's sake that has happened 8 times in the entire history of baseball. 3 of them are the Yankees.

Just Sayin: 17-13 Against The Division
QUOTE (flavum @ May 31, 2017 -> 12:47 PM) If the Sox accomplish what they're trying to do, they can get a nice cluster of years similar to what the Phillies or Rangers did. Or even the Tigers. You can never assume holding the trophy at the end of a season, but they can make the playoffs 2020-2024, if the rebuild goes as planned and they have enough health year to year. 5 straight years in the playoffs? I mean...

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 31, 2017 -> 12:36 PM) First of all, I was one of the largest proponents of acknowledging that risk, which is why I kept posting about the price increasing come the deadline as compared to this offseason. Secondly, some of the posters literally began their posts with "I hate that I was right about this." Umm, gloating. Irregardless of just how likely this kind of a dropoff was, I don't think it was anywhere near justifying taking a package that was significantly substandard just because you didn't want to carry the risk. Especially since we saw a huge payoff by holding on to Chris Sale until the off season.

Just Sayin: 17-13 Against The Division
QUOTE (Sox-35th @ May 31, 2017 -> 12:38 PM) Except the St. Louis Cardinals, Houston Astros. Two analogous teams to what the White Sox are doing. We get it, you're shortsighted and you want us to get that 5th playoff appearance in my lifetime. Get me a perennial contender. Wait, what? Neither of the teams you named made the playoffs last year. The Astros made it in 2015. Before that the last time was 2005. The Cards at least had a recent streak of 5 seasons in the playoffs, though 1 WS win to show for it. But then again the Cardinals have a fan base that allows them to spend when needed. You are talking about a franchise that hasn't been under 35k per night for over 20 years now. The White Sox have been above that mark once ever.

Keith Law Mock Draft 2.0
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 31, 2017 -> 12:21 PM) Wait what? Brent Rooker is almost 2 years older than Jeren Kendall and is a likely 1B. Jeren Kendall strikes out a lot. He strikes out too much to be frank. If he didn't strikeout this much though, he'd be the #1 pick. He will be a plus defender in CF with a plus arm and 70-80 speed. He also has plus bat speed and power. Looking at the descriptions of Kendall, I hear Mike Cameron. No? Yes?
