2017 Cubs Catch-all thread
QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Jun 3, 2017 -> 01:31 PM) Woe is Kris Bryant. He plays in the world in which he lives. Rules are rules. He's going to get so much money it won't matter. It would be completely out of left field if Bryant suddenly wouldn't sign with the Cubs. The Cubs can absolutely afford it, but there's really no way to tell what they'll do when it comes to that kind of money. Also, it will be interesting to see what value teams put in clubhouse chemistry. I'm not sure the Rizzo led Cubs would be a good fit for Bryce Harper's personality. That is somewhere approaching a billion dollars to sign both of them long term.

Petricka starts rehab assignment
The bullpen has been getting the s*** kicked out of it, and it is probably because it has been getting really extended lately. In the last week (6 games) our starters have given us 27 2/3 IP, or about 4.5 IP per start. That is a way to just destroy your pen.

Just Sayin: 17-13 Against The Division
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 3, 2017 -> 08:07 PM) See, but they are going to end up with a bad record. I think this is pretty much a foregone conclusion. To me, it's just easier to shrug off the losses at this point. Actively rooting for losses is backwards logic. "Runners on first and second for Abreu, let's hope he grounds into a double play." Like, what? That's the way I see people watching the game when they are hoping for the Sox to lose. If they end up with the 3rd pick or the 5th pick instead of the 1st, it doesn't really matter. From 2011 to 2015, the Cubs picked in the top 5 twice, still picked in the top 10 every year, and ended up with Baez, Almora, Bryant, Schwarber, and Happ. I don't think they ever went full tank trying to win 60 games, they just didn't have very good teams so they ended up at the bottom. That's pretty much the point I'm trying to portray - the Sox are going to lose a lot of games, so you may as well hope for wins and be grateful when they do, because it's not going to happen a lot. I mean, if that's what people are hoping for, then by all means, do it. I can't stop you. I just think it's a bit wrong. And here is the thing. If the Sox end up winning 75 games, some really good things happened. It means guys like Leury and Avi probably continued their breakout years, and probably means that some of our pitching ended up getting some pretty good values too. Having multiple guys who had breakout seasons is worth MUCH more than draft position. An All-Star level Avi Garcia is worth his weight in prospects.

QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Jun 2, 2017 -> 11:03 PM) Like in any sport, worse you do, better the draft. Why does anyone want this team to win right now? Absolutely idiotic, hence the reply to the thread.... Cubs rebuild, they sucked, that's good........... Individual players should never be focused on playing badly.

2017 MLB DRAFT
QUOTE (turnin' two @ Jun 2, 2017 -> 06:25 PM) True, but I guess I don't understand how say the Angels drafting at 10 would say "The ChiSox are taking Kendall at 11! No way! We are gonna take him first even though we were planning on taking Beck instead of him, but since the Sox want Kendall, we will take him to spite them." Or something like that. Demand has a way of influencing other people into something they think they are missing.

2017 MLB DRAFT
QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 2, 2017 -> 04:49 PM) I'm not sure I get this, surely that team couldn't believe he'll fall to second. If he can talk someone in the top 10 of picking him ahead of the Sox at #11, that is a nice monetary difference for him.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jun 2, 2017 -> 03:11 PM) They cost him a year of service time and earnings in his prime years for no reason other than they becasue they could No because they now get to keep him for another full season. No reason to give away a Bryant like talent a year earlier than you have to. The rules are the rules, take advantage of them where you can.

2017 MLB DRAFT
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 2, 2017 -> 03:02 PM) Yeah, there are a lot of games that can be played with the leaks of who a team is in on and who they aren't. But with that news and the near unanimous pick of Kendall to the Sox in the most recent round of mock drafts, someone is feeding something to scouts that the White Sox are in on Kendall. Could be a distraction, but when there is a lot of consensus among industry scouts, it usually turns out to be true. Similar to what happened with Moniak in the week up to the draft last year and what is seemingly happening with Kyle Wright. Hahn could certainly have leaked it to get a team in front of them to bite and to try and get someone else to slide, or Kendall could be using it to signal the minimum he is willing to take from a bonus perspective we'll all find out soon enough. Or it could be Kendall's camp leaking to get someone ahead to draft him even higher, to push up his signing bonus chances even more.

2017 MLB DRAFT
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 2, 2017 -> 02:29 PM) And that could have been for show. It could have also been that Kendall was the only one who leaked to the media that he had met with the White Sox.

Luis Robert signing official
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 2, 2017 -> 01:23 PM) He's 2-4 years away. I would start with at least two years. I can't see him being here before 2019 with an realistic scenario.

Kathy Griffin Does Something Very Stupid
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 2, 2017 -> 01:02 PM) Yeah I don't get it. I hate Trump, but don't agree with what she did, and if she did it because she felt his position should make him unable to respond, that's BS, especially considering his past history. And as much as I hate Trump, I feel he and his family have a right and probably a responsibility to respond. Although I do think Barron being traumatized was total BS. I think this press conference made her look worse. What was the purpose of the press conference, and why was she lawyer-ed up? The only thing I could think of was to make her stop when she was going to say something that got her into more trouble. Trump is a bully. You have to know that if you target him, he WILL come after you if he knows it happened. He can't walk away from any slight. Second, Trump is FAR from the first President to personally engage his targets. A great example is President Bill Clinton called an entire press conference to call Monica Lewinsky personally a liar and everything else under the sun, and Hillary pretty much did the same. Again, they were not the first by far, and will not be the last, by far. And is it petty? Hell yet it is. But most of these people become President because they are willing to take down those who get in their way.

Luis Robert signing official
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 2, 2017 -> 01:00 PM) I would say 0% chance Robert reaches the majors by 2018, very very low chance he is ready by 2019, and with 2020 being the soonest I could realistically see him being called up to the mlb. He would have to be murdering the ball in the minors to reach the mlb within the next year. He's very talented, but he should not be rushed since we are rebuilding anyways. The one thing it made me do was wonder if the Sox made some promises about how quickly he would move through the system, or if that is just Robert's level of confidence coming out.

Kathy Griffin Does Something Very Stupid
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 2, 2017 -> 12:50 PM) I don't understand her angle here regarding being bullied by Trump's family. What exactly would she expect? It wouldn't surprise me if she did this under the guise that any publicity is good publicity, especially for someone who considers them self D list. It looks like she found out that isn't exact true. I actually laughed at the idea that this was the first President to target someone personally.

2017 MLB DRAFT
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 2, 2017 -> 11:49 AM) Austin Jackson as a Kendall comp? Jackson was a highly rated prospect out of the Yankees system, flashed power, played + defense, and was pretty good for a while but Jacksons injuries have derailed him somewhat. K's a lot more than you would like for someone of his skillset. For the skill set I keep reading about, Austin Jackson makes a lot of sense as well.

2017 Watercooler TV thread
I can't remember if anyone else was on board or not, but this season of 12 Monkey's was excellent. I kind of liked them dropping all of the season over a three day period, as it made for a great binge watching of the season instead of having to wait a week for each episode. The season was awesome.
