Lopez/Giolito/Kopech/Moncada/Fulmer sent down
QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 03:14 PM) Dan Hayes @CSNHayes now Roster moves coming today. Looks like Michael Kopech and Yoan Moncada are headed to minor league side, among others. #WhiteSox The one player that is interesting to see if he is changing minds is Lopez. Could he win a job?

Predict the 2017 Opening Day Roster
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 02:38 PM) That's why he was on waivers at all. He was at one time a Top 50 prospect in all of baseball. My view is, if you are a rebuilding club (ATL, SDP, etc.), and you see a talent like that is healthy and available, he's very much worth a shot. All of the NL already passed on him once, as did all of the teams below the White Sox in the AL. Teams such as Cincy, Atlanta, Milwaukee, San Diego, Minny, Oakland, and TB and included in that.

Predict the 2017 Opening Day Roster
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 12:19 PM) So, they think Liriano clears waivers? I personally don't think he would, but if he does, that's great. He did get through all of the way to the middle of the AL wire last time around.

Tim Anderson signs 6 year extension
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 12:17 PM) If cleared before June 15th then a team that has already blown through it's spending cap will likely go the extra mile to sign Robert as well If he clears after June 15th then I could see the Sox being one of the favorites Personally, I can the the mlb intentionally dragging its feet with this until after June 15th Agreed on all of this, but especially the last part.

Tim Anderson signs 6 year extension
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 12:16 PM) They just dropped money on another kid last week. I don't see why they wouldn't continue. There is a much larger incentive for a team that knows it is already out for the next two years.

Tim Anderson signs 6 year extension
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 12:14 PM) No way. If he is cleared in this current signing period, I'll put money on the Padres. Agreed 100%.

Tim Anderson signs 6 year extension
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 11:18 AM) Do you really think the Sox are the frontrunners for Robert? I'd certainly hope so but they're hard to read because the front office keeps things quiet for the most part. Until he gets cleared to sign, it doesn't matter. The date when he gets cleared is absolutely vital to this process. Before June 15, he can sign for pretty much an unlimited amount of dollars, especially with a team that went over its bonus pool for this period. After June 15, certain teams pretty much lose the right to sign him, while others come back on line. On top of that, the new cap rules go into effect, so Robert's contract prospects drop off by a large amount. At this point, there really isn't much to talk about, and won't be until he gets cleared.

Tim Anderson signs 6 year extension
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 09:32 AM) It's 6 years. For every guy that makes it look like the Sox walked all over them, there's 15 Gordon Beckhams or Brett Lawries. Anderson has a young family. He is no lock. Now he's set for life. Pretty easy to see why they would take it. Besides, it isn't like it is that much more he is leaving on the table. He's not even eligible for arb yet. The option years are where he really loses money if he's a star, and he still would get 8 figures a year. In the front, he gets more money. He is getting 850k now, when he would probably bring in 525k or so. My guess is that the next couple of years are in the million dollar or slightly over range. Typically a guy doesn't get into that area until year 3. If I had to put it together, I'd say the six years look like this. 850k 1.15m 2m 3m 6m 10.5m $1.5m buyout Options look like $12m, $14m. Again, total guesses.

Tim Anderson signs 6 year extension
QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 08:52 AM) Its been a while so i forgot. He was one that put a lot out there right? Didnt he have the three team deal scoop until it fell apart? Nightengale has pimped Q harder than anyone not named Rick Hahn this winter. I don't think his getting this story first isn't an accident.

Tim Anderson signs 6 year extension
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 08:57 AM) I mean it's 25 million over 6 years, I don't see how this can be a mistake at all. $4 million a year is nothing in this day and age. Dioner f***ing Navarro made $4 million last year. Brett Lawrie made $4 million last year. Austin Jackson made $5 million last year.

Holy s*** this is awesome. Dude could be worth that for one year by the end of this deal.

NCAA basketball thread 2016-17
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 07:50 AM) I really want him, but Underwood wants someone more experienced (at least that's the initial buzz). Would consider him in a support role which means no Bowen, not really sure if that makes sense (not that Bowen would be a lock if he was an assistant). I'm all for someone who is a stud recruiter, but Shane seems like a really good up and coming coach/recruiter. Having seen him in person over the last couple of years, the guy is a college coach in waiting. His players are on the floor 60 minutes before tip off and go through drills, and all kinds of things before a game. It is the most elaborate pre-game I have ever seen. His recruiting speaks for itself. He built this basketball program there out of absolutely nothing. Five years ago it didn't exist. Local public schools wouldn't play them because they were so awful.

Tim Anderson signs 6 year extension
One more thing to note here... Look who got the scoop for this story. How many stories did he have about who was interested in White Sox players this winter? just sayin. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 09:03 PM) Mizzou wants Tilmon/Walker. Illinois might hire La Lumiere coach and Bowen would come with but Underwood wants a coach with a longer resume because they have the biggest assistant pool in the B1G. Some pretty big names being floated for the last 2 assistant jobs. Underwood bringing 1 guy with. Walker likely to stay but not confirmed. Shane Heirman. Dude is really good at what he does.

Tim Anderson signs 6 year extension
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 05:59 PM) What's the downside though? We basically have no financial commitments after the 2018 season. We can afford a small miss if things were to go south. And honestly, with his defense alone, I don't think there's a contract we could sign him to right now that we wouldn't be able to move down the road at the very least. Again, I don't really see much risk here, but tons and tons of upside. That's just it. The end of the contract and the most expensive years will be option years. The most expensive years won't put this team too far behind anyway, even if he bombs. Some of the money gets moved forward to early in the deal so that he gets some money early when the Sox aren't spending anything anyway.

Tim Anderson signs 6 year extension
QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 05:04 PM) And there is a 0% chance the Sox could have acquired Lopez, Giolitto, and Dane Dunning for Eaton if he wasn't signed to such a team friendly contract. Yep, Eaton would be 2 years away from FA instead of 4.

Tim Anderson signs 6 year extension
QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 04:56 PM) They could have locked Beckham up after 14 homers and 28 doubles in four months too. Glad they didn't. I think Anderson is a good player though. The other side of the coin is that Chris Sale would have just hit the free agent market in the best market ever for free agents, which means no Moncada, Kopech and company to show for him.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 04:50 PM) Why bother at this stage? edit: that said, I trust Hahn at these types of things. This is the stage where you get an Adam Eaton/Chris Sale/Jose Quintana type deal done.

2017 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 03:21 PM) Billy Koch did those things too. that would help us towards the #1 pick. The guy is probably in awful shape too having been out of the game since 2004 and being 42 years old now.

Moncada will not be rushed
Meaningless factoid of the day, Yoan Moncada's current age is right about the average age of players in the SAL.

2017 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 02:23 PM) Danks granted release from Braves. Hoping to pitch in the MLB. Come join the tank show! Truth being told, bringing Danks back wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. Let him suck up innings and teach some of these kids how to act like a big leaguer. I know his career took a big downward turn after the shoulder surgery, but he was the consummate professional. He took his turn every five days, he took ownership of his body of work, he didn't try to blame someone else for his downfall, and he never caused any problems while he was here.
