  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 28, 2017 -> 08:49 AM) He fits as a guy who if he performs, might be able to be flipped for a prospect. Or if he is good, a guy who could be a long term DH but that is really reaching. They aren't going to sign him. His skillset will always keep his salary down as his defense will keep teams from ever paying him. I still don't get the Matt Davidson love. At least Avi sucked in the major leagues. Davidson sucked at AAA and people want Avi out of here and Davidson given a chance. Even Davidson's "breakout" last year gave him a OPS .001 lower than Leury Garcia. They are all pretty much the same age. Leury is 8 days older than Davidson, and Avi is about 3 months younger. Literally the only difference between Avi and Davidson is Davidson wasn't even good enough to get the chance to fail at the major league level.
  2. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 28, 2017 -> 09:38 AM) Probably will be able to get cheapies off Stubhub this year whenever. In general that will be the best way to get tickets. I am going to get on line to make sure I get good seats for the Buehrle game.
  3. Thinking about a golf game for the PS4. Curious if anyone has play The Golf Club series, or if Rory McElroy is the way to go?
  4. Interesting preview on the Kanny team. http://notesfromthesally.com/2017/02/27/pr...s-intimidators/
  5. Chicago White Sox‏Verified account @whitesox 4m4 minutes ago Jose Abreu is leaving for Miami following today's game to tend to personal matters. He is expected to return to Arizona on Wednesday.
  6. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 02:43 PM) your entire premise revolves around right now, this week. The bears have had two years to get to this point and frankly, they dropped the ball if he walks. There will be a team that meets his demands, there always is. If someone is willing to pay that dude eight figures a year, they can have him.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 03:01 PM) Theoretically, if the Sox hit on all of their guys in the minors and majors right now, they have enough. Anderson turns into a 3 WAR player, Moncada is a 5 WAR player, Collins is a 3 WAR catcher, Narvaez is a capable backup, Basabe is a 3 WAR player, Engel is a 2 WAR player, Lopez, Giolito, Kopech, and Rodon are all 3-5 WAR pitchers, they fill out the bullpen with any number of guys, and you're already looking at one of the best teams in the majors. They can get better from there. What are the odds of that happening, like 1%? 0.1%? Collect ALL of the talent. Let's also keep in mind that the bust rate for pitching is MUCH higher than what it is for hitting. It would be nice to move those odds a little more into our favor.
  8. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 01:37 PM) GMAB. All Charles said was that you already have two all-stars, a former 6th man of the year, and quality roleplayers up and down the roster and you're publicly demanding more help? OMG the horror. The Javele comparison is absolutely terrible. And it is still meaningless, especially because GS is doing the exact same thing.
  9. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 01:27 PM) You lost me there. Barkley works as a commentator on an NBA pre-game show. It's his job to say stuff. He doesn't make more when he criticizes guys (rightly, in this case). He keeps his job by generating attention at players expense. It is the same stuff that just happened with the explosion over Javele McGee. If he didn't generate attention, they would find someone else who did. NBA players are under no obligation to let critics piss down their legs and tell them it is raining with no blow back.
  10. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 01:01 PM) Everybody didn't go on multiple rants to the media about needing more help. Everybody didn't bring up Charles Barkley's personal life because they didn't like being called out. Kyle Korver has hit an insane 40 of his last 64 3-point attempts. They got him for free. They're legit 12 deep with 2 legitimate all-stars as his 2nd and 3rd options. No excuses. lol, irrelevant. Completely irrelevant. That has nothing to do with on the court stuff and team make up. That is all about Barkley trying to make money on LeBron's name and LeBron finally getting sick of it.
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 12:00 PM) Joakim Noah out for the year. Having knee surgery. Love Jo and hope he can get better. We can all rip on Gar / Pax, but I will at least give them credit for not tying the Bulls up to an horrible long-term deal and allowing us the opportunity to be flexible. I could have easily seen them trying to keep one of Jo / Gasol and instead they made the right move as it related to both of them. That said, I hope somehow the surgeons work a miracle and we can watch some healthy Joakim Noah in the future. Very sad to see this as Jo is one of my all time favorite players. Even more sad is that the guy is pretty much done for. His body is rapidly failing him. I will always remember the way he played the game.
  12. Scott MerkinVerified account‏@scottmerkin 5m5 minutes ago Frazier took 35 swings and took 35 ground balls this morning and feels good. No timetable for his game return. Taking it slow
  13. Sox vs Cubs today in Arizona, complete with Yoan Moncada getting his first spring start.
  14. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 12:27 PM) Obviously LeBron disagrees with you. You think he demanded more help to take down Toronto or Boston? Or are you saying he's slow (I won't use the R word) and wanted Cleveland to acquire Anthony Davis? LeBron isn't stupid. He recognizes that the team he has isn't going to beat the Warriors with Kevin Durant. Of course he wants more. But so does the rest of the NBA. Why do you think that the best team in the history of the NBA blew away cap spaces and players to make room for Kevin Durant? Every body is looking for more. Singling out James for wanting more is silly, especially since even now the Warriors are adding players too.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 12:17 PM) And that writer has never seen him play. To be fair, if you listen between the lines of Rick Hahn, I don't know that he sees most of the kids he talks about in person either. You always hear him and Kenny talk about their scouts seeing guys, and then Kenny is the guy who goes to see them to make a final decision. If you trust your scouts, you trust your scouts. That doesn't matter if you are a writer or GM.
  16. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 12:12 PM) Then he should've kept his mouth shut and recognized that there was nothing Cleveland was going to be able to do to counter that. No, he did the exact opposite. He went public over and over and disrespected a legend along the way because he wanted more help. He wanted a playmaker. He got just that. He wanted a big after Birdman went down. He got a big. He got one of the best shooters in league history for free. No excuses. They added a bunch of recycled crap. None of that adds up to Durant. The idea that it does it just silly. This is the NBA, not the NFL. You can't make up for stars with depth, that is just silly. The only part that I can really appreciate is that LeBron is sore that someone out recruited him after being the guy who really got the idea of team superstar going in the NBA.
  17. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 12:09 PM) I feel like Sox fans are overrating Tatis Jr. because they're unhappy with how the Shields trade went. I still think he's not really a big time prospect. Had he remained on the White Sox, I doubt he'd be getting much attention. There is one writer out there that is throwing fuel on that fire on top of it with a rating of Tatis MUCH higher than anyone else. It will be interesting to see how the kid plays out.
  18. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 11:26 AM) Wtf are you talking about? I said GS is the favorite. But you don't get to complain about not having enough help when you have: PG:Irving/Willliams SG:Smith/Korver/Shumpert SF:LeBron/Jefferson/Williams PF:Love/Frye C:Thompson/Bogut They're two deep at every position now. He cried, b****ed, moaned, disrespected Barkley, etc. His wishes have been granted. No excuses. Sure. But they didn't add Kevin Durant.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 11:36 AM) J4L got a job with a AL MLB team? Generational talent, don't you know?
  20. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 11:29 AM) If the Sox don't have many deals lined up for 7/2, it shouldn't matter when Robert is cleared. They will still have $4M+ to spend, though they will have to do it in increments of $300K and less. Getting Robert his year and 15 kids this summer under $300K would give you quality this season and quantity next season. I don't see anyway that Robert isn't declared a FA before 6/15. Too many teams with interest will be putting pressure on the commishs office to get it done. From MLBTR article on Cards interest in Robert: One NL international scouting director tells Sanchez that Robert is second only to Shohei Otani on the list of best international talents in baseball, describing the 19-year-old as "a five-tool guy that can be in the big leagues soon." An international scouting director for an AL team goes even further, calling Robert "the best player on the planet, and that's no exaggeration." https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/02/card...uis-robert.html The Sox are not in the penalty phase. They can spend their allotment however they like.
  21. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 10:58 AM) Not in the same league? I wouldn't go that far. But when your 3rd best player once scored 37 points in a quarter and 60 points in 29 minutes you are the heavy favorite against anybody. I'm just saying Cleveland has gotten LeBron everything and I mean EVERYTHING that he's asked for. I don't want to hear a thing about LeBron not having enough help come June. lol. Yeah, because poor Golden State hasn't added anything since they lost to Cleveland.
  22. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 11:11 AM) This seems like a very risky strategy for a rebuilding team. This is one of those moments where Sox fans have to remember who they root for. I know a lot of people seemed to think these things would change when we went into rebuild mode, but I just can't see it happening, this is just one of those signs. I will say this year is odd because of the last minute changes in the CBA, but the Sox are never going to be that team.
  23. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 09:18 AM) I am hoping the Roberts and his agent chose to sign with the White Sox even if they do not place the highest bid under whatever rules are in place. I am hoping that Moncada, Abreu and a Spanish speaking Manager will be factors as well as the fact that he has little to no competition from anyone in the Sox system for a starting position in the outfield. Do whatever possible to get him. This rebuild needs some good news. This is actually a pretty solid point. Under the new signing rules there won't be much difference in what teams can offer in terms of pay. If you start looking at secondary factors, the White Sox might be the top landings spot in all of baseball. They have a history of being good to Cuban players, and they have done it multiple times. Alexei, Dayan, Abreu, etc have all gotten long term playing time, and very solid careers here where they made a lot of money. We have a Bi-lingual manager that thinks in Spanish as well as he thinks in English. On top of that, they have really integrated Spanish speakers and translators all over their minor league system, as well as the ability for players to learn English too. We have a very solid core of Spanish players starting out at the youngest ages in the DSL going all of the way up to vets like Jose Quintana and Jose Abreu. Our rookie ball team had a HUGE number of players from Latin America and that group is starting to push through the minors. Some are up to High A ball as the end of last season. As long as he is still here, having an established Cuban star like Abreu to mentor the guy could be huge. Plus having Moncada in the pipeline these guys can all give cultural insight that no one else can, and they exist not only in the majors, but in the minors too. The White Sox are still pretty devoid of minor league position player prospects, and their MLB starters are all guys who could be gone very soon.
  24. QUOTE (OnlyGillis @ Feb 26, 2017 -> 10:45 PM) Minnesota has a decent amount of games in hand but 3 games in the next 4 days. Nice travel schedule. It is probably too much to ask the Hawks for the top seed right now, but that is OK. If this team is playing like this come playoff time, it won't really matter.
  25. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 26, 2017 -> 07:05 PM) Exactly. If Robert isn't eligible to sign until J2 the most any team can offer him is $10 million. The most the Sox could offer is $8.3 million and they'd be doing so without signing anyone for more than $300,000 either. If he's cleared before June 15th, then the Sox have no chance in my opinion. A team that is over like San Diego or Atlanta could pay him like $30 million. Nobody can do that under the new rules. The White Sox if cleared before June 15th, have the ability to pay him whatever they want. If they do that though, they won't be able to sign anyone in upcoming J2 period and they most likely have agreements in place already. The good news if he doesn't make this years deadline is that between the teams that can't spend more than 300k this year, and the ones who had already planned to spend either their allotment or over there aren't many teams like the White Sox who should have some quality space left to use. Seeing as they haven't been connected to any top players yet, they might have a lot of space left.
