  1. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 10:35 AM) A few pages back someone said Trump was lying about that Belichick letter. But it looks to me like the reports say it's true. http://thebiglead.com/2016/11/08/bill-beli...ump-per-report/ So Belicheck lied? Man, who to believe in this one?
  2. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 10:30 AM) I early voted for Clinton, but after seeing her palling around with Jon Bon Jovi yesterday, I wish I could change my vote. Sad. JBJ might be able to help you
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 10:08 AM) This sounds like the opposite of everything I've heard. I don't think I've heard anyone saying that teams are undervaluing their prospects. Look at the deadline market and how many good to top prospects it took to get even a mediocre player traded.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 09:51 AM) Totally agree. Not every prospect will make it, but even having more prospects allows us more room to acquire than we currently have. If this market keeps up, prospects have never brought back less in return than the do now. It takes more and more to get even mediocre players.
  5. QUOTE (aryzner @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 08:53 PM) I think the Sox will sign AJ again. I don't want them to, but I think they'll do it. Just a feeling I have. If they didn't resign him last winter, they aren't signing him this year.

  9. QUOTE (captain54 @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 01:48 PM) Nobody is bitter, angry, or throwing temper tantrums, my friend... But I get how it works for you, to paint that tableau..the pattern with you is as predictable as the air we breath, if anyone is negative or critical of the organization, they are automatically pegged as bitter, angry and borderline lunatic..... So go for it, by all means... I don't need you to tell me where I should be moving to or how I conduct myself.. thanks anyway.. If you'd like for me to completely ignore you and never post again in response to anything you say or do.. I'd be happy to oblige, if it really bothers you that much.just say the word young man... But in the real world, when you make statements that people might not agree with.. be prepared to take the heat, son... Just keep in mind that only one of us is taking this so seriously as to need to drag the other person into arguments that don't exist. If this has so all consumed you that you are still stewing enough on arguments from weeks and months ago that you are STILL trying to refight them, I would offer that you are the one who can't handle a simple disagreement. If it really didn't bother you, you wouldn't still be obsessing over it to the point where you are thinking of me in unrelated posts.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 12:51 PM) I think the answer is pretty obvious. The White Sox had the 28th prime time TV ratings in MLB this year (Torotno not counted same way because different country). For a 78-84 win season, they had the 2nd worst TV ratings in baseball - only Oakland was worse. That follows a 2015 season where the White Sox had the worst TV ratings in baseball. So basically, can we be worse than last or second to last in the league in TV ratings? No. It's fundamentally impossible to be worse than last. Aside from the people on this board, there is no one left watching this team. Just because the ranking can't drop, doesn't mean the actual ratings can't drop. It can get worse.
  11. QUOTE (captain54 @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 12:54 PM) You have no problem spouting your opinion and not hiding the fact that you have a pretty disparaging view of Sox fans..., disloyal, inferior to Cub fans in terms of quality of their fandom...etc .. and recently, pretty much discounted Sox history or anyone with any recollection of it pre-1985, as totally irrelevant Does it ever occur to you that some folks might take offense to that? feel insulted by that? But when challenged, you start whining and crying that you're being picked on... .. talk about thin skin, guy... sheesh.. Seriously, why does anyone else have to care that you are bitter and angry? If you have a problem with me, at least do everyone else on Soxtalk the favor of keeping it in conversations with me. There is zero need for a grown man to be throwing temper tantrums in situations that aren't even relevant to where the person hurt your feelings. At the end of the day, no one else should have to deal with your pouting. I mean if you can't handle an opinion other than your own without feeling insulted, you probably should move on to safer spaces than the internet.
  12. QUOTE (captain54 @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 12:46 PM) I'm fully aware JR isn't going anywhere... and I'm aware he's not referring to Soxtalk.com or any other site for suggestions on how to change his ways... Why bother? because we can talk about this and that, and analyze the crap out of all of this stuff.. It's all flotsam and jetsam. By the way, I googled "flotsam and jetsam", to make sure it was grammatically correct.. to make sure Officer SSDR2K of the Grammatics and Semantics Police didn't bust me with a citation.. Just trying to keep in in perspective for y'all. Think of it as a Public Service... You're Welcome.. It is rather amusing how thin your skin is that you feel the need to take personal shots at me constantly, even when not in a discussion with you.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 12:43 PM) Is that substantially worse than an 84 loss team? At the gate and for advertising purposes? I would think that answer would be obvious. You tell me.
  14. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 12:20 PM) The only risk IMO is the potential loss of season ticket holders. A lot of them may jump ship if a lengthy rebuild is on the agenda and you may never get some of them back. But that's a risk we need to take, because the half-ass going for it plans haven't done anything to keep these fans either. Yeah, we still have a solid attendance number historically. There is a lot more to go down.
  15. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 11:46 AM) Nor is that money really even needed in today's environment, where plenty of money comes from tv rights and revenue sharing. They can take the hit at the gate for a few years. The fans will come back when the team starts playing well again. It isn't like they are dismantling the '98 Bulls or something. Except we could well be a 95 loss team when we are negotiating those rights.
  16. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 11:37 AM) Fans are barely supporting as it is. Would there be a noticeable difference? Yes there will be.
  17. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 11:15 AM) Yah, and when the Sox average 10,000 fans. If you're for a rebuild, support the team if/when it happens. When the Sale happens (pun intended) attendance drops will accelerate. Fans may say that they want a rebuild, but they won't support it.
  18. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 10:53 AM) Nothing official, but good news for now Chris Hine ‏@ChristopherHine 1m1 minute ago Following up on Tyler Motte... no timetable, but a source said the Blackhawks don't think Motte's injury is serious. Very nice to hear.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 10:56 AM) Yes. It's can't be like the Davidson/Reed trade, where people said after the fact they still would have made that trade 10 times out of 10. These guys getting dealt has to be a caulfied-styled 10 out of 10, which means with hindsight. If they get guys who turned to crap, but Sale gets hurt his first game, it's still a bad trade because they will be able to get good players somewhere. There is a lot of pressure on them trading these guys despite a good portion of the fanbase claiming to be all for a rebuild. We all know the "excitement" over the rebuild will last about as long as it takes for these kids to start playing games and for them to not be superstars right away.
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 10:02 AM) I don't want to trade Sale for a bad package. Yes, that return the Marlins received for Cabrera was bad and would really hurt as a white sox fan. But we just had someone argue Mike Trout isn't good enough return for Sale. Our diagnosis of bad is going to be subjective. But I think we all agree that some we expect mixtures of top 25/top 100/wildcards to come back. Where I disagree is the tendency to act like all top 25 talent is flat and = in value, where I think certain top ten talents are so good you take less back around them. Others are certain we need to salt the earth of the teams we trade and I just can't get behind that being necessary. The proposed deals from Boston didn't include their top talent. Moncada was not in the deal, and the rumor was that Boston didn't want to put Benietendi in it either.
  21. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 09:42 AM) I cannot disagree more. If your strategy is based on taking advantage of a team making an irrational decision, your strategy is bad. If the alternative is to let the talent rot and net nothing, well THAT is the type of thing that sets the franchise back a decade. Taking advantage of market forces to maximize a return by selling at the right time makes sense. The difference between that and stubbornly waiting for someone to give you something EVERYONE knows you won't is huge. If the players you get in this deal don't turn out to be huge, not only have you given up all of the developmental time you put into the players, you also wasted the asset you had, and have to start over without both talent and assets.
  22. QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 09:22 AM) My logic for that is "if 40% of people can't be bothered to vote, and you force them to, what kind of s***bags would they vote for? Then I saw that people freely nominated Donald Trump so now I'm not so sure. I think the problem is the opposite. The radicals on the wings are the ones who are most motivated to vote. It is the middle that feels that there is nothing for them, so they don't vote.
  23. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 09:17 AM) People shouldn't have to wait in line for 3 hours on a work day to vote. I think it's as simple as that. Colorado mails out ballots a month early and has a number of drop off points for ballots if you'd rather not put them in the mail. That made voting extremely convenient for me this year. They don't. Pretty much everywhere has some form of early voting, even if it is an absentee ballot.
  24. QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 09:10 AM) f***ing Iran has turnout numbers that blow ours out of the water. Their off-year elections are higher than our record turnout (2008). Our numbers are embarassing. Our off Presidential primary drew under 20%! Yeah, well that is how you end up with Trump and Clinton on top of the ballot.
  25. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 09:09 AM) I'm not sure "increased turnout" is even a mandatory goal for updating election restrictions, making it more convenient for people to vote (even if they would have anyway) is also nice. Honestly I don't care about it either way, but when the conversations turns to a holiday or moving the date being something that would increase turnout, I don't see it being true. Even with having an entire month to vote early, people still don't make the effort. I don't see any of the other solutions around changing the election date fixing anything either. People who want to vote, figure it out. Those that don't make up excuses to not vote.
