  1. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 01:22 PM) this is a pretty low bar to clear at any job let alone one as well compensated and prestigious as leading an entity worth half a billion dollars or more. The original statement was that the team wasn't worrying about what was happening on the field. That is 100% false.
  2. QUOTE (captain54 @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 12:46 PM) Acccording to you, the franchise is in a funk because of it's lack of loyal fan support… if you're gonna switch lanes, kindly use your turn signal... Also, never said that. I said that fan support makes a difference in resources available to the franchise. It would be nice if you were going to attribute things, if they were at least correct.
  3. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 12:47 PM) I just have no clue why you keep defending the way this franchise is run. I never said it was right or wrong. You are reading into the statements too much.
  4. QUOTE (venom4789 @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 12:36 PM) No this is a franchise that has refused to rebuild and have made numerous questionable off season moves cause they believed we were only a few players away from competing, the moves are enough to tease the fans to thing we are doing the right thing but in all honesty we are not, now we have a bad product on the field no minor league talent but we have a great new name of the ballpark. Just because they aren't doing it the way YOU want it done is irrelevant. They have made a ton of moves the last few years, again, they just haven't worked out. They know there is a problem, and are trying to fix it. It just isn't the way that most people want to see. But they are trying.
  5. QUOTE (venom4789 @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 12:29 PM) Maybe the problem is instead of worrying about the product on the field ownership is more interested in changing the name of the field so they can have more options to make money without putting a good product on the field. This is a franchise that has turned over the entire roster in the last few years, and has made a ton of moves specifically in the last two years. The problem isn't worrying about the product on the field. The execution hasn't been there, but it hasn't been for a lack of effort.
  6. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 12:17 PM) Correct but you missed the point. If JR looks at the balance sheet and says based on present revenue and expenses, he is please with the results, he has no incentive to improve the product on the field. However, if he is determined for success on the field, then he will do what it takes to improve the team even if it affects the bottom line. Going back to my example w Tampa, why would an owner stay in a situation where attendance has been terrible and push for a new stadium. Wouldn't it make more sense to move and find a bigger potential fan base?? This is silly. Of course there is an incentive. Look at the revenues for 2006.
  7. Watching the mess between the Chargers and Bosa is a great example of some of the truly horrible ownership groups that are involved in professional sports.
  8. Very nice work by the University of Chicago. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-37...s_campaign=1490
  9. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 10:53 AM) They might be a laughingstock. It's not because of the Ballpark name though. It's pretty funny when a team that hasn't won a title in 109 years throws shade along with another one that hasn't won a title in 30 years. Good times. Especially since the new Solider Field is a joke itself.
  10. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 10:43 AM) I thought I read that, after inflation, the monetary value of the deal is identical to U.S. Cellular's I actually just looked that up. Chris Rongey was wrong there. The present value of $3.4 million from 2003 to today is a bit over $4.4 million.
  11. Cat Garcia ‏@TheBaseballGirl 32m32 minutes ago Jose Quintana currently has the lowest HR/FB% (8.5) among all pitchers with a min. 150 IP.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 10:22 AM) Worth considering perhaps - the "bang for the buck" for a company that isn't well known a-la "Guaranteed Rate" in sponsoring a stadium name is likely much higher than that a well known company (i.e. United) gets out of sponsoring a stadium. Guaranteed Rate has probably gotten their entire contract's worth of advertising value in the last 24 hours - I can't say I'd ever heard of them before this thread. The Sox are getting $6.4 million out of this. THAT is what is important here. The name is secondary.
  13. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 08:04 AM) Again, one more time - the fans are NOT the INVESTORS. Jerry Reinsdorf and his partners are the INVESTORS. It is their job and their job only to invest in the product they are trying to sell to make it compelling enough for the fans, i.e., the CONSUMERS, to spend their money on the product. Economics 101. And this is why the Sox get the Guaranteed Rate deal, while the Cubs will be getting a new network deal.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 07:54 AM) If they were investing your retirement funds this poorly, would you still keep piling in bad money after good in blind faith and hope it eventually has to turn around? Isn't it reasonable for Sox fans to do the same...to at least expect to have a clear decision-maker in charge who is accountable for performance? Even the best mutual fund manager in history...who beat the S&P Index an improbable thirteen consecutive years (like the Braves' playoff streak)...was rewarded with less than half the rope that KW and Hahn are being extended. Like I said, you can rationalize it how you want, but the results are the results. Teams that have loyal fanbases have more resources. This naming deal is 100% proof of that.
  15. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 07:34 AM) I spend part of the year in the Tampa area. I am amazed at their situation. They have struggled to draw attendance since the team arrived there. Due to the "migrant northern population" in the area, there always seems to be a limited number of true Tampa fans at their games. Yet all you hear oover the last few years is they need a new stadium. I think we as fans look at attendance as the driver of a franchise success. I think in this age, there are multiple factors such as advertising and TV revenue which may have greater impact. So many some owners are milking the cow by putting a mediocre product on the field regardless of the impact on attendance. Tampa is famous for selling off their yoing players as they approach free agency for young players that can start the cycle over again. Unfortunately Maddon kept them competitive and now they struggle with a mediocre lineup. Local TV revenue and advertising is 100% based on the perception of the fan base. Bigger fan bases, mean more people are watching and listening to games, which means more eyes for advertisers, and more money for the local teams.
  16. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 06:51 AM) This is the fundamental flaw in the fan base haters/shamers' argument that the state of the Sox is somehow the fans' fault. There is no such thing as "rate of return" as it relates to the fans. The fans are not the INVESTORS in this product called White Sox baseball. We are the CONSUMERS of said product. Big difference, obviously. Jerry Reinsdorf and his partners are the investors in the product, and dare I say, they get quite the profitable GUARANTEED RATE of return on their investment due to the terms in the sweetheart lease deal they blackmailed the state into giving them 25 years ago. As consumers of the product, there is no obligation whatsoever for fans such as myself or SS2K5 to go buy tickets in the upper deck and watch guys like Jimmy Rollins, Austin Jackson, Dionner Navarro, Alex Avila, and Avi Garcia play really bad baseball for Mr. Reinsdorf to get the resources needed to fix the product. He already has those resources. The problem is that he and his management team have failed miserably in the decisions they've made when using those resources. Eh, you can rationalize this all you want, but you are still missing the essential truth at the base of it all. If the fanbase invests in the franchise, the franchise is better for it. If they don't, they are worse off. The results of the fan base are right in front of you.
  17. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 10:31 PM) One thing wrong with your comment I'm not a JR hater. I respect the fact that he's a self made millionaire and have said that repeatedly. He's also a brilliant businessman and real estate guy. That does not make him a baseball expert or a savant when it comes to the game. We'll just have to disagree, Sox fans are smarter than that to support a garbage, s***ty franchise. They are under NO obligation, none, zero, nada to support crap just like any consumer is under no obligation to support a bad eatery, a lousy supermarket or a bad business. There is no difference especially when said team got their stadium out of tax dollars and didn't even pay for it themselves (unlike say the Giants owner who built that stadium out of his own pocket or the former Dolphins owner Joe Robbie) Want to know a big reason why the Cubs were s*** for decades? It's because they sold out every game win or lose. The motivation for ownership to spend millions to put a winning team on the field was exactly none. But again you are free to offer your opinions and I respect them. I respect the fact as well that you consistently stick to your guns. Mark I honestly believe you are in denial if you think that. Reading what you post is completely different than what you just said.
  18. Can we drop this argument, again? Seriously put each other on ignore or something. This is getting ridiculous.
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 07:39 PM) Guess you don't remember Mopeface Jones Or Jaime Navarro.
  20. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 06:55 PM) We can't control social media or what Cubs fans say. We all can control what we say on this site. There are plenty of jokes to be had without stooping to rape jokes Seriously. If you need to expound that level of ignorance, go find another website. People might be saying on twitter, but it literally doesn't matter. It won't be allowed here.
  21. I can't recall another pitcher like Shields. He is either unsustainably bad, or unsustainably good. There is no OK. There is no mediocre. Think of a guy like Danks who was meh most of the time, with an occasional blow up.
  22. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 04:42 PM) Apparently it's the fan's fault? Mark I know you and the rest of the JR haters have this weird guilt factor any time this is said, but it is a fact. The rate of return is directly tied to how much and how loyal of a fan base a team has. Teams like the Cubs get bigger deals because no matter what has happened they have stuck around. Like it or not, but it is true.
  23. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 04:39 PM) perhaps that says something about the Sox relevance in their own market. Mark That is exactly what it is saying. The Cubs are getting their own network due to their fanbase, we are getting Guaranteed Rate Field.
  24. Scot Gregor ‏@scotgregor 31s31 seconds ago Brett Lawrie had MRI on left knee, hip. #WhiteSox still trying to figure out what's wrong
  25. QUOTE (shipps @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 04:27 PM) US Cellular doesnt even offer plans in the midwest. I am sure they were no longer interested. Sure. It is obvious they were in the market for a new name, but the results are all around disappointing. The deal isn't that impressive, and it sure isn't a very impressive company. What this really does is scare me for their next TV contract.
