New Ballpark Name
QUOTE (shipps @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 04:27 PM) US Cellular doesnt even offer plans in the midwest. I am sure they were no longer interested. Sure. It is obvious they were in the market for a new name, but the results are all around disappointing. The deal isn't that impressive, and it sure isn't a very impressive company. What this really does is scare me for their next TV contract.

New Ballpark Name
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 04:18 PM) Sox Park it is. Sure they would - they want to sell it eventually, and the revenue stream adds value to the franchise. Not really. You'd think a new owner could do better than that. Chris Rongey @ChrisRongey 6m6 minutes ago If reports are accurate (approx $88 mil for 13 yrs), when adjusted for inflation, the Guaranteed Rate deal is worth exactly same as US Cell.

New Ballpark Name
One random thought. It doesn't seem to me that a guy looking to sell the team would be working on a naming rights deal.

New Ballpark Name
Well hopefully they make a lot of money and do something good with it. IIRC the last time they had a deal like this they used the money to remodel the park.

Alec Hansen thread
Oh crap, even Phil Rogers noticed. Phil Rogers @philgrogers 19m19 minutes ago #Whitesox may have struck gold w/Alec Hansen. He was wild at OU but has fanned 45, walked 11 in last 28 innings. 49th overall pick in June.

Jose Abreu
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 01:25 PM) A season of elite numbers and a season of extremely good numbers. Let's not act like he sucked during his sophomore campaign. And he has still been 14% above average according to his OPS+ this year.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 11:09 AM) Or if Burdi was still there when Hansen was picked...possibly Hansen who is looking like a very nice get I doubt he slides 23 more picks with that arm.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 10:20 AM) Exactly. 5 extra wins puts them at 65-59. Second wild card is at 69-56.

Jose Abreu
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 09:21 AM) Completely disagree here. If Abreu were his typical self, the Sox would be .500 or better IMO. So many games when he just didn't do anything when they needed more. This version of Jose, Morneau in the lineup all season, and Ajax healthy, this team would be right around where most thought they'd be, which is a few games over .500. Yeah, considering we are only 4 games under .500 with a pretty substandard Abreu for over half of the season, I think it is fair to say there are at least 2 more games he would have won us, which would put us back to .500 already (2 more wins, 2 less losses). I think a pretty convincing case could be made that that number could be more like 4-5 games if he had played at All-Star level Abreu.

Interview with Alex Call, 3rd round pick
I know this is Call's answer, but this is a great Q&A as to why Hansen's rookie ball stats do hold some meaning.

I don't recall the Sox sending a draft pick to AFL immediately before. Has it happened before? Do other teams do it?

What? A blowout win for the good guys?
QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 09:02 AM) I saw on twitter he threw 21 changeups last night. You can tell he is learning. Still gets caught up in quite a few 10 pitch at bats that he can't seem to find his out pitch. Reminds me a bit of 2002/3 Jon Garland watching him pitch. With as much movement as he has on pitches, he may well be a guy who throws 7 innings, but it takes him 125 pitches to do it.

Jose Abreu
On a more serious note though... in August, Abreu has gone from a .738 OPS to .796 now. He is back to an OPS+ of 117 after 134 last year. His OBP is now only .006 under last year.
