The top level of free agents this year are going to be insanely over priced with the dearth of people out there.
  2. QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Jul 13, 2016 -> 11:24 AM) I think as a general rule of thumb, Gen Xers were raised by Boomers and Millennials were raised by Gen Xers Originally it was by birth year, and a generation was considered 20 years. Pre-1945- The Greatest Generation (self named of course) 1946-1965- Baby Boomers 1966-1985- Generation X 1986-2005- Generation Y, or whatever 2006+ - Current kids under 10ish.
  3. QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Jul 13, 2016 -> 11:11 AM) What's the big deal about kids using electronics? So they are more sophisticated than we were growing up. We were more sophisticated than our parents and so on. So? What is this, jealousy? I wish smartphones existed when I was 12. Granted, I was too poor but still. Old folks don't understand it, therefore it can't be good.
  4. QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Jul 13, 2016 -> 11:00 AM) I'm not a Republican obviously, but Mitch Daniels is okay. He's more of what I consider a traditional Republican and not the Brownback/Walker/McCrory/Pence douchebag type of governor who run their states into the ground. My favorite memory of Pence in Congress is when he invited President Obama to come speak at the Republican retreat in Baltimore, I guess expecting to lecture him or get him told but they'd *completely* underestimated him and halfway through they were like "yeah this is a bad idea. Good thing this isn't on TV." This is exactly why I like Daniels. He put the state onto solid financial ground, and didn't get into the social BS that Pence seems to be obsessed about. The State of Indiana also didn't spend a ton of time trying to override local positions on issues when it didn't agree with what the state wanted.
  5. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 13, 2016 -> 10:44 AM) Pence needs to declare whether he's going to be listed on the Indiana ballot for Governor or for VP by tomorrow. Funniest scenario is he takes himself out of the Gov race and then Trump picks someone else anyway. It is actually by noon eastern on Friday.
  6. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 13, 2016 -> 08:52 AM) Pence is looking increasingly likely to be Trump's VP Here's a reminder of how awful he is. http://www.vox.com/2016/3/26/11308890/indi...law-miscarriage Don't forget his two (failed) anti-LGBT RFRA bills, either! Indiana is cheering. There is also a movement to draft Mitch Daniels back, which would make me double happy.
  7. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 13, 2016 -> 06:13 AM) Lol dude...you are a compete joke. Maybe because it means they're playing at home, which to anyone who actually follows sports knows provides a competative advantage. Or maybe because if their pitcher is batting, it means their AL counterpart is losing a more important hitter from their lineup or weakening a defensive position. But you're right, Javier Baez is better than Davis Ortiz or Edwin Encarcion. The only good news from this implosion is it has proven you're a Cubs fan once and for all. It's long been speculated, but you toned down your completely biased Cubs views for a while when you switched your name from AustinSox to Deadpool. But arguing against home field advantage and then being a total dick to fellow Sox fans when you get called out is the final nail in the coffin. Seriously, Wrigley Field has to be one of the absolute biggest home fields advantages in October in all of baseball. Ignoring that is just being argumentative.
  8. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jul 13, 2016 -> 09:24 AM) http://www.chicagonow.com/future-sox/2016/...l-baby-boomers/ Recap posted. Only three games, so I took a closer look at a couple notable DSL players. I wouldn't be surprised to see Alfaro called state side very soon.
  9. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 13, 2016 -> 10:04 AM) Unlike Avi - he can play great defense. Also unlike Avi, he's a great baserunner. I don't want Saladino to be our DH of forever, but he's better than Avi now. Yes, even as a utility player, Tyler Saladino has a LOT of value. He plays plus defense at the very least at three positions.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 13, 2016 -> 09:48 AM) They could have had 15-20 middle infielders under 6 years of control and it wouldn't matter one iota if none of them were major league regulars. 90-120 years of control!!! Amazing. It also doesn't explain trading Thompson when they had zero depth behind him. If all of those infielders were such quality depth, they wouldn't have had Gillaspie/Beckham there ahead of them....and then traded for Todd Frazier the following off season. Todd Frazier explains that.
  11. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jul 13, 2016 -> 07:53 AM) If that's the going rate, the White Sox probably shouldn't pay him, which kind of forces a trade situation. I don't want to trade him, either, but I get why they would. Looking it up, one of the proposals from Fraziers camp was actually 7/100 http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/todd-frazier
  12. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 13, 2016 -> 09:38 AM) Replacement? Semien was part of the group of no clear/sure-fire/ready-to-go replacements. He was the same group as Micah and Sanchez and all three of them couldn't play second. And at the time Semien was probably considered behind Micah and Sanchez.
  13. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 13, 2016 -> 08:36 AM) Still think it needs to be said every time. Just because you said it once for accuracy sake doesn't mean you can leave out the details every time after that. It's misleading. All of a sudden it becomes just Semien (he) instead of a they and a guy who sucked for 1 year with all kinds of hopes he could be extended just becomes a #2 . The argument around here used to be ( Semiens 1st year with Oakland)the Sox gave up nothing Semien blows, he can't field, Bassitt and Phegley are fodder. Now it's a different tune all by the shortsighted who somehow can't grasp the fact that when you give up 15 years of control for 1 year ,prospects have a chance to get better and organizational depth is pretty important .What a shocker . The "15 years of control" thing is also pretty trite. Just because you have control of a guy for a long time, doesn't make him worth controlling. I mean we got years of control out of a lot of guys. Would you feel bad about giving up 5 years of control for Leury Garcia? How about Scott Carroll? The only time that matter is if you don't have another player who is able to give you what that player is giving you if the goal is to compete. Otherwise you enter the MLB hell of perpetual rebuilding. As angry as Sox fans are about their missed playoff run recently, would you really feel better about a few decades, but a lot of player control? Somehow I bet the novelty would wear off within a few months, just like it did when we did the quick rebuild work in 2014. Heck, people have already started to pretend that we weren't rebuilding those years and are holding it against management as if they were trying to compete the whole time.
  14. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 12, 2016 -> 10:46 PM) I would still trade unproven prospects for proven MLB pitching. If the A's really wanted Semien, so be it. He was unproven and the Sox needed a RHP starter to go with Sale, Q and Rodon. In a trade you are targeting one of a couple of things, the best player or the highest ceiling. The Sox got the best player.
  15. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 12, 2016 -> 10:59 PM) You've said this a few times but I think the sentence needs to be longer. Something like, "He (and others) got them a #2 starter ( for 1 year)who pitched more like a 4 (who many people on this board were absolutely convinced would be extended). So even if you were ok with giving up the prospects for a rental then he wasn't extended making it a double whammy of a bad trade. Somewhere in all that if you're cool with the prospects given up and cool with him not being extended then you qualify as a true blue , blind loyalty Sox fan. So if you have read this all, then you read the original post with the much longer explanation that included this, so there really isn't a need to write a post like that stuff wasn't addressed before. If you skipped that post, go back and read it.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 12, 2016 -> 09:28 PM) http://www.freep.com/story/sports/columnis...tions/86974920/ Tigers in almost the exact same position as the White Sox. Their most desired trade assets are key parts of their "two year plan" which goes through 2017...they also are stuck with $38 million in bad contracts for Sanchez and Lowe, not to mention the Verlander/Cabrera contracts keeping them permanently suspended in "win now" mode. So you've got the White Sox, Tigers, Royals and Yankees that are "stuck" in a position where adding anything of significance might not make any sense financially or prospects surrended-wise. You've got Baltimore, Boston, Toronto (depleted minor leagues but drawing huge crowds so the revenue's there to make at least one move), Cleveland, Texas and Houston really looking to make a move. And Angels are also basically "stuck" for a number of reasons. That leaves the Seattle Mariners as the one big mystery team in this wild card race, because they already have Cano/Cruz and a gold mine with their new ROOT tv deal providing them $118 million per season. OAK, TB and MIN are your three rosters to pick from on the AL side. The Tigers are a freaking time bomb. They have $176m on the books for 2017 already, and at least $100m on the books every season through 2019. Even 2020 has >$80m on the books because of just 3 players, plus Prince.
  17. QUOTE (StrykerSox @ Jul 12, 2016 -> 09:08 PM) Dunno, dude. Maybe it has something to do with Sanchez having a better ERA, ERA+ more quality starts and high quality starts, more IP/GS, and a lower homerun rate than Quintana. But hey, he did as poorly in the pointless AS game (we won't be in the World Series, so this game is effectively pointless for us) as "the best lefty in the game not named Clayton Kershaw". So f*** him. The flavor of the day is "salty".
  18. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 12, 2016 -> 08:34 PM) Came here to say this. Dude is 37/1 K/BB in 33IP in the DSL! A Sox Latin American signing for $50k out of Venezuela. He was part of a combined no hitter last year, throwing 7 no hit innings in a start.
  19. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 12, 2016 -> 08:48 PM) Quintanas defense letting him down again Apparently they are trying to make him feel right at home.
  20. Bulls sign Canaan to a small deal. http://www.csnchicago.com/chicago-bulls/bu...n-two-year-deal
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 12, 2016 -> 06:31 PM) It's more the fact that we were rebuilding and everything was going along fine until the 2014-15 offseason approached. Then they got impatient and tried to rush forward, in the back of their minds certainly being aware they wouldn't have the financial resources to sustain an "all in" year unless EVERY MOVE THEY MADE TURNED OUT PERFECTLY. While we might not be much better off record-wise, an infield of Semien at 3B/2B, Anderson at SS, Thompson in CF, Montas still in the system (and Saladino as super-sub/Zobrist lite rotating around at different positions)...that would be a lot more exciting to watch and have potential for future improvement. Also, a lot more athleticism. Between Montas, Hansen, Fulmer, Adams and Jordan Stephens, we'd have enough pieces to fill the bullpen needs and back of the starting rotation. That team would also be much more affordable/cost-effective, providing payroll space for other fixes like the DH issue with Avi Garcia. And yeah, I did say they pretty much needed to trade Semien because it was clear the organization had already given up on him and he wasn't likely to get another shot...so why not try to turn him into an asset to fill another need? It's not like any of us here can go out and hire individual coaches and bring them to USCF and force them on the White Sox front office to fix their own development and lack of patience with young player issues...(of course, for some reason, they fixate on other guys like Beckham, Flowers and Viciedo and give them way too much time, with Avi Garcia being the most currently example of that phenomenon.) Sox fans don't care about "exciting to watch". Though I do like how you manage to slap the team both for too much time with young players, and not taking enough time with young players.
  22. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 12, 2016 -> 04:38 PM) For 1 year? 2 years? When we are marginally competing? We're at a laundrymat paying 10 paper dollars for 16 quarters. As opposed to having no starting players at all but still the original minor leaguers?
  23. Today's Knuckleball ‏@KnuckleballFRS #Braves catcher Tyler Flowers is out 4-6 weeks with a broken left hand, @JonHeyman reports - http://www.todaysknuckleball.com/knuckleba...ks-broken-hand/ …
  24. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 12, 2016 -> 04:06 PM) What would it matter? At some point the talent evaluators of the white sox will need to get some results. I would argue that turning players that weren't going to make it into a starting player would be "getting results".
  25. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 12, 2016 -> 03:24 PM) Everyone seems to forget part of it was Micah was supposed to anchor 2B. Sure they sold it that way, but they sure as hell didn't stick to it. They got him up here, evaluated him, and got rid of him. They sure weren't scared to move on from him.
