Danish demoted, RHP Michael Ynoa recalled
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 08:36 AM) KW said the same thing about Jon Adkins... Oh crap, someone different said something similar 15 years ago. We might as well all quit posting now.

White Sox Acquire James Shields
3 starts ago James Shields had a 3.06 era. Literally half of the earned runs that James Shields has given up this entire season, were given up in his last 3 starts. (23 of 45) That doesn't scream gradual decline. That screams red flag. For refernce's sake, since everyone love to point at John Danks as some sort of reference point for suck, the most ER he ever gave up in 3 consecutive starts was 17, which happened to be right before he had shoulder surgery.

QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 06:05 AM) Shields 5.45 ERA looks so much better Those starts were across 3 seasons. And it's not like our guy who replaced him (Danks) was any better. But we'll trot guys like Shields out there in their age 36-37 season just because they are paid the most. So basically, to have any prayer of contention in the coming years, Fulmer will need to come up and be a #3/4 caliber guy from day one. The question is, if we can't afford to cut loose bad players who are paid a lot why are we aggressively trading for wild cards with a financial commitment lasting 2-3 seasons? Organizational philosophy here is terrible. Kind of like John Danks is in the rotation now? Stop yourself. Seriously.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 11:26 PM) Erik Johnson started 19 games for the White Sox at the major league level, put up a 4.73 ERA, a 5.82 FIP, a 5.01 xFIP, a league average strikeout rate (7 K/9), a below average walk rate (4.5 BB/9), and his fastball velocity maxed out at 92, in 2013, in 5 starts. If the White Sox miss Erik Johnson that badly, they can probably trade for Dylan Axelrod. And he never got a fair chance. No, Greg. Any time the Erik Johnson name is typed, it should auto-correct to this post.

The Truth About
QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 05:53 AM) He's just getting old and he's not very good anymore. No need to make excuses. He just straight up sucks and it's sad that the management of a major league baseball team could not see that. They even had the opportunity to change their minds after the epic meltdown against Seattle. If you think this is the real James Shields, I feel a bit sorry for you.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 06:38 PM) Because we keep refusing to call it "radical Islam," meaning many Democrats. As opposed to all those "radical Christians" who do stupid things in the name of religion all around the world, and have ever since the time of the Crusades/Inquisition. But we don't want to call ourselves radicals...just others/outsiders/foreigners/people with different beliefs than ours. Which is funny, because I sure see the right wing labeled as radical...

QUOTE (harkness @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 06:44 PM) Of course people with "inside information" have a scope others don't. But if every time people are going to disagree.. someone is going to play the "you haven't done it before card," then pretty much that eliminates most opinions as invalid in most walks of life. It's like... impossible to have direct experience of everything we have opinions on. Not impossible, but direct experience should be more heavily weighted and valued than random rants on a message board.

White Sox Acquire James Shields
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 06:29 PM) They don't give up on guys like Beckham, Viciedo and Jared Mitchell until at least 2 years too late...you can forget about Shields going anywhere. There has to be a mechanical or tipping pitches issue in there somewhere. They'll figure it out eventually. Yeah, none of those guys is even in a remotely close to the same situation. It is a nice list of random names though.

QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 06:04 PM) No way this front office will DFA him after they just traded for him. Their egos are way too big for that. If he continues to be worse than Danks they will probably stick him on the 60 day DL and try again next year. No one in MLB is DFA'ing a pitcher they just traded for after two starts. I can't even describe how ridiculous that diea is.

2016 Cubs catch-all thread
QUOTE (whitesoxjr27 @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 03:58 PM) Sports Cubs rolling the dice with another former Orioles top pitching prospect CSN Chicago 3 hours ago Like Reblog on Tumblr Tweet WASHINGTON – This might be a worst nightmare for the Cubs in October, a $210 million ace at the absolute top of his game, using all his weapons and making this lineup look helpless. The Washington Nationals seem unbeatable when Max Scherzer pitches like this. Scherzer took a perfect game into the sixth inning on Monday night at Nationals Park, giving the Cubs flashbacks to the New York Mets and the power pitching that swept them out of the National League Championship Series. “That’s what we ran into last year,” manager Joe Maddon said after a 4-1 loss. “We ran into the Mets and we didn’t put the ball in play enough, and that’s what we got to really strive to do – at least move the ball and give ... http://www.csnchicago.com/chicago-cubs/cub...tching-prospect What the Cubs are picking up washed out busts? I thought only the White Sox did that?

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 04:33 PM) Dan Plesac said that the Cubs should trade Schwarber for Andrew Miller. That would be stupid. There's no way Theo does that. Schwarber could headline a package for a frontline starter. Why would they deal him for a 30+ year old reliever? I would love to see the Cubs do that.

2016 Draft picks thread
QUOTE (QuickJones81 @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 03:48 PM) I understand all this. The Sox approach meant they ended up with less of a share than others, who had the same constraints, and used a different path to more talent in terms of volume of top rated players. So are we less efficient with our dollars, or top heavy, and how do we differ from the teams that have had the best success in the draft since the new system was put in play? I understand how we got to where we got to, but are we laggards in understanding how best to work this system like we are in the international market? Ithe seems like our approach is to put all of our money on the top players and gamble that they'll succeed while hoping one of the cheap buys is a steal. The question is quality versus quantity.

Renteria on 10-9 walk off win over Tigers (4 min video)
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 03:54 PM) That's it. I haven't played so why formulate an opinion at all. Guess there's no reason for sports discussion boards then because most don't play or a lot haven't. Doesn't mean they're uneducated when it comes to point of views and opinions on sports. I don't think it is wrong to point out the experience level difference. Just because you traded a stock or watched CNBC, it doesn't mean you know investing as well as Warren Buffet. Baseball isn't any different. And from a practical standpoint, the management staff is going to be privy to information that none of us have, and probably will never know. I mean even if we are just talking about understanding the personalities of his players, how would we know that stuff? Like it or not, there is an advantage from having done something for decades on an intimate and personal level that people outside of the game will never have.

2016 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 02:13 PM) Obama's speech today and it's thorough take down of the "he didn't say the magic words!" nonsense we've heard from Republicans for months/years was refreshing. He must have been reading my SoxTalk posts to greg yesterday. http://time.com/4368733/barack-obama-donal...lando-shooting/ I have actually enjoyed listening to Obama a lot more since he got to quit being a politician. Honestly that is my favorite part of any Presidency. I loved GW in the same time period too. He can speak his mind instead of worrying about polls and re-elections.

Robin Ventura should be fired today
The one thing I have seen in the last week is that this team hasn't given up on this season. Down 11-0 against Washington, they came out and scored 4 runs in the 9th. Down 7-0 in the 4th, the White Sox came back to force extra innings, even though Detroit added on to their lead twice after Sox rallies early on, and in the 8th inning. They could have quit in either of these games and didn't. Typically those are the litmus tests as to whether a team's heart is still in it, at least for me.

2016 Draft picks thread
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 11:49 AM) It's about pool $$. The Sox had like $9.5 million to spend on the draft. Their 1st pick is taking the full $3.3 million allotted, Burdi is probably close to the $2.2 million slot amount there and I would imagine that Hansen is slot as well. You can't just take the BPA on the board each time because guys wouldn't necessarily sign. For example, they took Michael Hickman in round 13. If he's over $100,000 he counts against their overall draft pool. They took 3-4 guys that will be under slot to save some $$ to sign Hickman and probably Ian Hamilton. It has t be done this way. If they took Hickman in round 7 and he doesn't sign, they don't get the player and they lose the ability to spend the money for that allocated slot. And we have a high school kid in round 6 that will take an overslot deal to get done. That money needs to be saved somewhere.

Danish demoted, RHP Michael Ynoa recalled
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 11:37 AM) Former top International Prospect and part of Shark trade. That deal ended up being: Semien, Phegley, Ravelo, and Bassitt for 1 year of Samardzija, Michael Ynoa, and RHP Zach Burdi. It will be interesting to see if Burdi is a slot signing, or if they can save money to bring in some of the other high school picks.

Robin Ventura should be fired today
QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 11:50 AM) It feels like Ventura is "showing fire" and getting ejected so much recently because of past criticism that he's too passive as a manager. He's trying to save his job by changing himself. Everything I have ever heard or read about Ventura is that he is a firey guy, but it isn't for public consumption. He has a reputation for getting into players faces as a player, but it was in the clubhouse, not in public. He has a record of getting thrown out when the umpires are particularly bad, last night was no exception.

Avisail Garcia
QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 11:01 AM) Avi is currently sporting a bWAR of 0.3. That's decent enough for a team that doesn't currently have a better option at DH, but I don't see him being on the 25-man squad next season. I would bet he isn't even starting at the end of July 31st.
