  1. QUOTE (Brian @ May 10, 2016 -> 02:58 PM) Smh http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/25583152 He only got 3:1? What an idiot.
  2. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ May 10, 2016 -> 02:37 PM) No idea how reliable this site is but would love to get Reddick!! http://showtimesports.sportsblog.com/posts...sh-reddick.html I am sure the White Sox are interested, but I don't see them being able to outbid a lot of teams for him.
  3. QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ May 10, 2016 -> 02:43 PM) Pods was a major catalyst when the picked him up, major There was a camp that thought we lost the trade because we traded away the better player. Pods was coming off of a down season. Plus we all know that left handed hitters from the NL are destined to fail with the White Sox.
  4. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 10, 2016 -> 02:38 PM) This is kind of the feeling I had. I didn't have a negative feeling, but I remember being like "the Sox are just gonna be their usual above-average, but not great selves." I was shocked by how hot they started the season and once the summer started and they showed no signs of slowing down I was never excited about any baseball season like that before. The lineup didn't even really look that imposing on paper (even though they ended up hitting lots of homers). Jermaine Dye started off really slow that year, and Frank Thomas got injured early, but that didn't seem to stop them. I don't want to make too many parallels between this team and that team though. I was looking at it pre-season and was amazed at how many parallels there were between 05 and 16.
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ May 10, 2016 -> 01:48 PM) I remember differently. I remember after the late AJ and Iguchi signings, people really feeling positive about how complete the team was. I don't think anyone thought world series, but I felt good about playoffs, as good as I had during 01-04. FWIW, this is the closest thing I could find to a predictions thread. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=29456
  6. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 10, 2016 -> 01:39 PM) What was the fanbase's consensus feeling heading into 2005? I don't remember, I was pretty isolated and had just moved, I didn't know about this board, social media didn't exist yet, etc. I remember being excited about picking up AJ but I never expected that team to start off the year firing on all cylinders the way they did. Sox were picked something like 3rd or 4th going into the season. Fans were really divided on the Pods/Carlos Lee trade. Not a whole lot of optimism pre-season. Bandwagon got rolling early with a hot start. Pretty similar to this year honestly.
  7. QUOTE (Brian @ May 10, 2016 -> 01:35 PM) Imagine social media being around when Jordan was in his prime. May have been worst than what Lebron faces. Michael Jordan would have been destroyed by the press of today. Gambling, womanizing, punching teammates... Oh boy would it be ugly.
  8. Fangraphs has the White Sox at 70.7%. It is a red letter day because after leading the whole season to this point, they finally have the Indians with the second highest chances, down to 65.1% Baseball Prospectus has the White Sox at 83.0%, Cleveland at 70.0% 538 has the White Sox at 78%, Tribe at 41%. They also have the Sox projected out to 93 wins, which is the highest of any modeling (BP at 90, FG at 88)
  9. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 10, 2016 -> 12:52 PM) Not really defending MJ's voters, just seems like the common reaction everywhere has been to imply Curry doesn't deserve to get unanimous MVP because Jordan never did, and that strikes me as dumb 1980s BBWAA HOF voting logic. I don't like the logic that because something stupid was done 100 years ago, no one else deserves better now. I just want to make the point that MJ really should have been a unanimous MVP, but because of stupid externalizes never was. He isn't the only one either. My personal favorite is Wilt Chamberlin averaging 50 points and 25 rebounds a game for an entire season, and not winning MVP.
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 10, 2016 -> 12:59 PM) 1. It's May 2. Quinnipiac was one of the worst pollsters in this primary. 3. It's a RV poll 4. They have the electorate as more white than 2012. Hispanics are registering at record rates. For comparison, other polls within the last week have Clinton winning those same states by larger margins than Obama did. One thing I will say is that Trump is bringing a ridiculous number of crappy and pissed off white people. For the first time since I have been alive, there were more Republican ballots taken in my county primary than Democratic, in a county that is 3:2 Democratic. I don't want to see Trump win, but I also won't pretend that there isn't something going on there.
  11. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 10, 2016 -> 12:53 PM) I explicitly said in my comment "whether what's behind him is better is another discussion". Given the options at the moment (thanks Samardzija trade) I don't think it's outrageous he's getting the bulk of the time. It is silly to say, however, that just because the White Sox are winning means they shouldn't be evaluating the individual performances of every player and looking to make upgrades if necessary. With the way they've pitched they could probably have rolled out Paul Konerko in centre-field and been over .500, that doesn't necessarily mean it's a good idea. I wish the idea of the White Sox being asleep at the personnel wheel would die. They have not been afraid to make changes, both on the field and on the roster for quite some time. Just because it isn't happening in the time frame that fans want to see, doesn't mean it isn't happening. Outside of George Steinbrenner, no one really runs a team like that. Ask John Danks if the team is evaluating player performance.
  12. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 5, 2016 -> 09:27 AM) A look at the uphill battle the GOP was facing this year, with or without Trump at the top of the ticket: That's giving ®'s a bunch of states that they would struggle to win anyway. The paths to 271 for Republicans are pretty limited. http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2016/05/10/p...inton/?mod=e2fb
  13. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 10, 2016 -> 12:19 PM) The fact that he's the first ever unanimous choice is ridiculous. How Jordan and Lebron were never unanimous is crazy. I know it is sacrilegious to think it now, but Jordan got a lot of the same selfish flack that LeBron has in his career. He wasn't team oriented enough in some people's opinion early on. Then he got to a stage where he was so good, it was just assumed he was the best, and that the MVP should go to the next best guy.
  14. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ May 10, 2016 -> 11:49 AM) CarGo, Reyes, and Gray for Danish, Guerrero, Lowry, and Engel. Sox take on dead/bad money and an underperformer in Gray who still has upside. Rockies get some pitching prospects that all have a MLB floor and could end up as rotation pieces and a high upside guy and AFL MVP in Engel. I like the thought, but that would be adding something like $30 to $40 million to the payroll, and I can't see that happening.
  15. QUOTE (ptatc @ May 10, 2016 -> 11:17 AM) Pitching is more important than hitting. Also, maybe Washington has already realized that Harper will be beyond their finances with New York, LA and Anaheim fighting for him. It would not surprise me if they already know he wants to go to ones of those primary markets. This would not shock me at all. I think Stras rightly understands his injury history and chances, Harper doesn't have that. There isn't the risk for him to avoid being a free agent.
  16. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 10, 2016 -> 11:10 AM) I gotta assume that DRob is unavailable today, right? This would be his third consecutive day of pitching and he was terrible yesterday. Probably him and Jones.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 9, 2016 -> 11:55 PM) This is such bulls***. I was reading today that PayPal does business with countries where being gay is punishable by flogging. And they will pull out of North Carolina just cause politicians want people with male body parts to stay out of female restrooms? I want to know where the common sense has gone in America? With all the kooks out there, why should males be allowed in the women's restroom?? It makes zero sense. A lot of you are too liberal for me. Please answer this hypothetical. You are at Museum of Science and Industry and you are walking toward women's restroom with your 10 year old niece or daughter. Just as you get there as she is about to walk in the restroom, a guy wearing a dress and heels who is about 6-foot-2, 320 is walking in at the same time. You mean to tell me you feel OK with your niece or daughter walking in there at the same time??? Just cause he IDENTIFIES with being a woman?? I say, "Hey lets wait til she comes out of the restroom before you go in." If that makes me a bad person I have to shake my head. This is reality folks!! Not all transgendered people who have yet to have the surgery look like Kaitlyn Jenner!!Tell me you'd let your niece in the same bathroom in the scenario I described. I just got called a liberal. That is pretty freaking impressive. The argument is hollow. There are plenty of child molester coaches and boy scout leaders out there. Why should sports and after school activities be allowed?
  18. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 10, 2016 -> 08:54 AM) I think 7 years and $175 is a great deal for the Nationals. Strasburg is very good and that's what those guys cost. He could have gotten more on the open market. Should have a front 3 of Scherzer, Strasburg, and Giolito for years to come. I'd love to pry Tanner Roark away from them. He has opt outs after 3 and 4 years. If he wants to leave, he can.
  19. This would be a great day for Rodon to keep his release point and get us 7 or 8 quality innings today.
  20. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 10, 2016 -> 09:55 AM) He's a reliever who can't strike anyone out and has horrible control. How is he good? He is off to a bad start this year, but looking at his numbers before this year doesn't show this at all. He has put up solid overall numbers and FIPs in his years here. No he isn't going to be a closer, but as a middle reliever he is perfectly fine, probably even a decent one when compared to what other teams are running out there.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 10, 2016 -> 12:16 AM) http://www.mlbdailydish.com/2016/5/9/11641...ight-now-ranked The most interesting name from this list (assuming we're moving off the replacing Avi bandwagon temporarily) is James Shields (before you stop reading, make sure to pay attention to the argument in the original column)...how they could/would get him to opt-out of his contract at the end of the season, no idea why that would be in his best interest unless he was so desperate to pitch for a contending team again he agreed to a buyout from the Padres so he could finish this year elsewhere and go back out on the market again. Guess it just depends on how much he believes he has left in the tank and how willing he and his agent are to surrender the final two years on that terrible contract. I guess stranger things have happened in baseball, although I can't recall many like this hypothetical. Lucroy would just be too expensive. James Shields CAN opt out of his deal at the end of this season, just like I CAN opt out of my job today. That doesn't make either one of us less likely to do so, or less stupid if we did do so.
  22. QUOTE (oldsox @ May 10, 2016 -> 08:39 AM) I prefer Albers for the 8th inning setup job over Nate Jones. Jones has been very shaky lately, Albers almost lights out-esq. I prefer Albers being able to be used in key situations no matter what the inning is, versus being locked into the 8th inning.
  23. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 10, 2016 -> 08:35 AM) Call me crazy, but I'd rather have Carroll. Petricka is garbage and if nothing else, Carroll is a true long man that can eat innings when the game is out of hand. Petricka is not garbage.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 10, 2016 -> 07:07 AM) Ironically, a lot of people gave up on a game and left USCF nearly two decades ago against these same Texas Rangers that Robin Ventura won with a grand slam. That is my favorite non-playoff White Sox memory. That was an incredible moment to watch live.
