2016 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 11, 2016 -> 11:07 AM) Bernie is losing because he's not a democrat and the establishment has done well to brand him as such. He is essentially piggybacking on the democrat party the same way Trump is doing so with the Republicans. For him pretty much being a no name politician he has done rather well. In 4 years, if a similar candidate is produced maybe it will bode better for them. Between Trump and Clinton we have two s***ty ass choices but it's somewhat like this every presidential cycle. America loves to take it up the rectum and deserve everything it has coming to it by electing god awful candidates all the time. http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-elec...l-idUSKCN0Y21TN

Ventura will earn his extension the next 43 games
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 11, 2016 -> 11:27 AM) 1) On the road in Texas, where no lead is ever safe...don't think I'd say that about any other stadium, maybe Wrigley when the wind's blowing out. 2) The best hitters on the Rangers were due up. 3) You had the feeling all game long, especially after Desmond's homer and then the Sox only scoring one and leaving the bases loaded (again) that it was really going to play like a 3 run lead. 4) He pitched himself into high leverage and needed to be pulled after the first or definitely the second batter reached. Mazara and Odor have simply been crushing the ball recently. You can't have a guy who crushes RHP from the left-hand side of the plate teeing off on Carroll. I think I said in the middle of that at-bat I wish he'd just give up a homer and cut the lead down to 2 because those situations have a way of continuing into huge innings as opposed to clearing the bases with a homer and having to start over. It's like the line-up keeps growing more and more confident as you keep the line moving and the pitcher can never relax with all those runners on base every time he looks around. If it was 6-7 runs, you don't worry. But 5 or under, well, anything can and will happen. So a the difference between 5 and 6 runs is the difference between using Carroll or someone else? How completely arbitrary.

5/11 - White Sox @ Rangers
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 11, 2016 -> 11:20 AM) And I'm still trying to figure out what Austin Jackson did that was so egregious. It wasn't like Sands' play the night before. It might have been a slight misread and it almost felt like he wasn't tracking it....that it either carried a lot better than he expected to the deepest part of the park OR he drifted too much with it instead of sprinting across like that amazing basket catch over the weekend where he had a 96% route accuracy and was going at almost 20 MPH. Watching it on video a bunch of times, it just feels like he wasn't quite running all out and misjudged it a hair, but, once again, that ball was crushed by Desmond and certainly not close to an error. It's probably one that he catches 7 or 8 times out of 10, though. The wind has been a big factor in this series for sure.

Ventura will earn his extension the next 43 games
QUOTE (shysocks @ May 11, 2016 -> 10:34 AM) You say this like it's some universally accepted axiom. Carroll has like a 4.50 career ERA. He should have been able to get this done. Petricka is on the DL. Putnam threw 20 pitches the night before. The actual numbers: As a reliever in the majors; Scott Carroll 3.26 ERA, 1.335 whip, 1.91 k/BB As a starter; 5.40 era, 1.566 WHIP, 1.33 k/bb Realistically his stuff is good enough to go through the line up once, MAYBE twice. Definitely not 3 or 4 times.

QUOTE (bmags @ May 11, 2016 -> 09:29 AM) That albers looked so bad should let you know why Robin's instinct was to let Carroll pitch a whole inning. The pen was gassed. ALl of our guys look tired. That carroll is our best "longman" option is scary, as we've always had a plethora of AAAA pitchers that can come up in a pinch and be okay in that scenario. Carroll clearly has lost his. Carroll has actually been decent in this role historically with the White Sox. Much better than as a starter.

SoxNet: Reasons to believe in Avisail Garcia
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 11, 2016 -> 10:06 AM) His work ethic (to go along with his tools) is one of the big reasons I never could 100% write him off. If he had a lazier work ethic, I'd put the odds far less of him turning things around. Still, very small sample size but clearly reasons to be potentially optimistic. His coming back from shoulder surgery so quickly because he busted his ass made me a fan for life. Even if he is a flop, I have a ton of respect for the kid. He is a hard worker, and very open to suggestion.

SoxNet: Reasons to believe in Avisail Garcia
That is really good stuff. Glad to know the numbers back up what I have felt like I was seeing from Avi. Hopefully this the emergence of Garcia for good, because this team looks a whole lot better with a bat like that in the middle of the line up.

The sooner we get an automated strike zone, the better
If automated umpires are anything like instant replay, forget it. They get multiple angles, still miss calls, and take up too much time doing it.

Early Trade Speculation
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 11, 2016 -> 09:07 AM) I'm 99.999999999999999999999999% this wouldn't happen, but I wonder who the Sox would have to give up to get Gray, Reddick, and Doolittle as a trio. Everything.

5/10 - White Sox @ Rangers Game Thread
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 10, 2016 -> 05:30 PM) The "don't mess with a good thing/manager superstition" thing. Same reason Rollins is still in there and hitting 2nd again. There's a 50/50 chance if we lost that game a Sands move would have been made. Then again, no idea no Shuck has been doing offensively at Charlotte. The same reason that John Danks is still the fifth starter.

Another Steroid suspension is coming up
So apparently Raul Mondesi Jr got a banned substance in his system from a cold medicine he bought in the Dominican Republic. I wonder if that was at the same pharmacy that Sammy Sosa got his Flintstone vitamins at?

Early Trade Speculation
QUOTE (Dunt @ May 10, 2016 -> 04:26 PM) It's not going to take a top 50 prospect to get 2 months of Reddick. I'd do something along the lines of Adams+, but after that no thanks. With no chance of a qualifying offer, he will definitely hit free agency primed for a big pay day. Most likely you will have to outbid a late first round draft pick in terms of value.

Top 30 International Prospects; July 2nd 2016
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ May 10, 2016 -> 03:23 PM) The International system is modern day slavery, it's very f***ed up and lots of shady stuff going on behind the scenes. It needs to be fixed. And no, I don't think the answer is an international draft Rolling them into the draft when they turn 18 is quite literally the most fair system of all. It is crap that one group has one set of rules based on where they are born. I see no good reason for kids being free agents at 16 just because they are living in the DR, versus being subject to the draft because they are born in the US.
