  1. Figure this from Jackson's stand point. If he has a bad year, he looks for another one year bridge contract, and probably finds it based on his defense. If he has a vintage year, he doesn't want to be locked out of the market. He wants the chance to cash in.
  2. QUOTE (RibbieRubarb @ May 9, 2016 -> 02:10 PM) Yeahhh...none of that is really true. Your opinion maybe...but it is not a wasteland by any means. Agreed. The pine forest of east Texas is beautiful. There are so many great beaches along the gulf coast, especially considering how much of it has no one on them. Houston has the Johnson Space Center. The Riverwalk in San Antonio is supposed to be the best in North America. Austin is supposed to be a great town.
  3. I would bet a lot of money that there have been way more attacks by same sex child molesters versus transgendered in bathrooms. That is not even taking into account how many times thing have happened in the settings where a male molests a male child in a power situation, such as a coach and an athlete or something similar.
  4. QUOTE (RibbieRubarb @ May 9, 2016 -> 01:50 PM) You got a place to crash while you are here! I'll be there Tuesday. Holy crap! IT LIVES!!! :notworthy :notworthy

  7. QUOTE (GREEDY @ May 9, 2016 -> 12:59 PM) I don't think that is a guarantee. Jackson signed very late with seemingly the only team that was willing to give him an everyday job. I'm not sure that an 8 or 9 million dollar option for '17 would have cost the Sox more than a million more this season if anything at all. Latos is more of a stretch, as it appears much more likely that he took a discount to sign with the Sox BUT if a team wasn't willing to guarantee him a spot in the rotation how MUCH money could they have possibly been offering him? Say the Sox had to pay Latos 4 or 5 million in '16 to get an option for 8 million in '17... if KW/RH truly believed in him and weren't just placating a fan-base with a a recognizable name, paying for that option might have been worthwhile. Latos was looking forward to a nine figure contract not that long ago. If he just wanted an extra million or two this year, he could have gotten it. He wanted a shot a job this year, and he wanted to get back onto the market as soon as possible. Jackson had a chance to sign with Texas for another one year deal before Desmond signed down there, but he wanted to play CF. If he didn't sign here, he would have probably taken the one year deal in TX.
  8. The White Sox are one of the options, and are leading. https://twitter.com/MLB/status/729694952872095744

  10. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 9, 2016 -> 12:25 PM) I just chose which one of the two friends I liked better. j/k You must hate the other dude.
  11. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 9, 2016 -> 12:20 PM) I have a couple friends there. Plus, meeting kapkomet's goofy ass in person. Sucker.

  13. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ May 9, 2016 -> 11:30 AM) I've been to Dallas... its a wasteland. Even the dreariest Chicago sleeper community has twice as much going on as the cultural backbone of DFW. Off of the top of my head, the JFK museum is a must see. Fort Worth stockyards are a great experience, especially if you take in an indoor rodeo. Plus the food is incredible.
  14. QUOTE (GREEDY @ May 9, 2016 -> 11:27 AM) That is why i am kind of shocked that KW/RH didn't get '17 options on both Jackson and Latos. Sure, it might have costed a little more money on the books for '16 (who really knows) but it would be really nice to have about an 8mil option on both players... especially considering that this offseason it appeared the Sox were still kind of on a two-three year plan. Unfortunate to see the Sox gamble on both players, giving them opportunities that likely didn't exist elsewhere, possibly have them come through, and then as a reward have to give them 3 year deals if you want them back. Neither one of them would have signed here if they were forced to take an option year. The whole attraction was that they had immediate openings, and they could be on the market in a year. They both literally took less money to do so.
  15. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 9, 2016 -> 11:48 AM) Kahnle got sent down to make room for Gonzalez. Carroll survives. For this roster, Carroll makes a lot more sense than another short reliever.
  16. Maybe it is because I have done some broadcasting, but folks have to realize that there is going to HAVE to be some personality shown in a three hour baseball broadcast. Especially in a sport like baseball that is 95% dead space, you have got be able to fill time with SOMETHING. I did high school and college football and basketball, and even in those two faster moving sports, there was off topic stuff that had to fill some time, especially in blowouts. I only did one college baseball game, but it was almost all dead space that needed something else to fill it. No one is going to just quote stats and color commentary for those spaces in a baseball game. It would quite literally be the most boring thing ever if done over the course of an entire season. Whether it is Hawk or Vin telling stories, or Stone and Benetti joking about Jason's bucket of a car, there are going to talk about SOMETHING.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 9, 2016 -> 08:07 AM) Trump's positions change every day. On minimum wage and taxing the rich, he's now sounding like a Democrat. Trump and Clinton don't need to debate each other. They can just debate themselves.
  18. QUOTE (Brian @ May 8, 2016 -> 01:23 PM) If anyone is on the ballot, they should be included in debates. They fact they're not is why people say the system is rigged. There is a reason the Democrats and Republicans have a strangle hold on power, and that is they have rigged the rules and system to make sure that no other people or parties can be heard. That is the way they want it, and that is the way that it will stay. The party faithful sheep will continue to justify the means to make sure it doesn't change.
  19. QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 7, 2016 -> 09:43 AM) This is clearly the year to take a big plunge into the international markets. This is where to spend the Laroche windfall. can't say I'm surprised they have no interest in doing that. Building an org. isn't part of the' contrived "2 year window". Honestly, it is too late. Top guys are already locked up. The cycle has moved up to a year, or even two, in advance now.
  20. So I managed to give myself 6 stitches last night. Friday night I got home from a company outing in the dark. I took my laptop and put it on to the dining room table, knocking a candle my wife had put up there over, shattering the glass container it was in. No big deal, cleaned up the mess and put it in the trash. Last night while taking the bag out, it brushed against my calf, cutting the back of my calf wide open. Two hours of ER time later, I am up to date on my tetanus shot, got a couple of X-ray's to look for any glass shards, and got six stitches in me. Luckily they needed my room so they took care of me pretty quickly to make space for a real emergency. Fun way to spend a Sunday night.
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ May 9, 2016 -> 09:29 AM) Why Dallas? Believe it or not, DFW has got a lot of cool stuff to do. Arlington is a decent ball park too.
  22. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 9, 2016 -> 08:22 AM) In '08 there were a decent number of Clinton "Party Unity My Ass (PUMA)" people, too, but they almost all came around to vote for Obama in the end. Polling shows that, by and large, Sanders supporters are not thrilled but would still vote for Clinton (like me!). Sanders himself will likely endorse Clinton, and another favorite of Berners, Elizabeth Warren, has been on the attack against Trump lately and will definitely back Hillary in the GE. There is a rump of Sanders supporters who rarely/never vote Democrat anyway, and those people won't be swayed by "lesser evil" arguments and will instead not vote or vote for some protest candidate. Overall, though, Trump's facing a much larger problem in that regard than Clinton is. A Sanders 3rd party run would possibly lead to a 2000 scenario. You'd have to go state-by-state and estimate/guess which states Sanders would pull enough supporters from Clinton from in order to throw it to Trump. It could definitely happen (e.g. how LePage got elected in Maine, two liberals split their votes and he got the plurality), but just like trying to guess the ultimate primary results back in January, it'd be really hard to game out that hypothetical. They spent the entire last two election cycles convincing themselves that Mitt Romney and John McCain were right wing lunatics. They will have no problem keeping the party in line with Trump on the other side. The party is amazing at keeping its people in line.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 9, 2016 -> 09:14 AM) Sort of makes him hypocritical with his Subway deal. Stay away from me, but please, use the same bathroom. Separate but equal... where have I heard that before?
  24. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 9, 2016 -> 07:35 AM) I find that as annoying as the people who want defensive shifts banned. It's game strategy. Do they also want double teams banned in the NBA? If Zimmerman could get a single clutch hit, the Nationals would have won and there would be no crying. There is a movement to stop the fouling of bad free throw shooters, sadly.
  25. I would imagine that at Jackson's age, if he has a legit bounceback season, he will want to chase a big contract in free agency, and who can blame him.
