'Snowmageddon' blankets Mid-Atlantic in heavy snow
QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 8, 2010 -> 07:23 PM) Just as I suspected. South Bend doesn't even qualify as a real city! They do have some standards...

Freddy Garcia gets even cooler
It makes sense with how quickly his career fell apart. Guys who don't take care of themselves don't usually make it as long.

Financial News
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 8, 2010 -> 02:47 PM) Then the market readjusts. It isn't that hard. You have to remember, companies aren't trading on their valuations today. They are trading based on their future profits and receipts. The President saying he is going to embrace or destroy certain industries has an immediate affect on their perceived future valuation.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 8, 2010 -> 02:36 PM) But if no policy ever comes to fruition, what real pressure was there? Then the market readjusts. It isn't that hard.

Financial News
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 8, 2010 -> 12:59 PM) What happens at the specialist level of exchanges that makes major market moves in reaction to a Presidential speech long before any policy comes to fruition rational? Their job is to constantly have pricing pressures priced into a stock. Waiting around six months for actual policy is irrational. The whole point is to be prepared for that. That's why reaction happens when it is news.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 8, 2010 -> 12:59 PM) He 35 and still has has three years, $15 million left on his deal. They'd have to dump some other contracts to add that, especially Mr. Huet's. Can't go back to having two goalies with huge contracts like last year and before. Its not ideal, but it is a step forward.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 8, 2010 -> 11:59 AM) Massive sell-off to a speech, before a bill is even crafted in either house, does not seem like rational reactions to me. Mostly because you don't understand what happens at the specialist level of exchanges.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 8, 2010 -> 12:07 PM) Unless the Cubs had already won the World Series the preceding October. Then 15" of snow should be takenas yet anothr sign of the pending Apocalypse. Trick question, since the Cubs won't win a World Series...

Sox un-retire #11
What a great history lesson for Sox fans, and a selfless gesture by Lou. How many guys would let someone else take "their" number? Can anyone imagine Michael Jordan letting someone else wear #23?

Tim Tebow to appear in anti-abortion Super Bowl ad
QUOTE (G&T @ Feb 8, 2010 -> 08:49 AM) Considering the amount of publicity the ad got before it ever ran, I think they got their $3M worth. And the amount of people who turned it into some bunch of crazies killing doctors making a commercial game them the most free publicity of all.

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 8, 2010 -> 08:43 AM) So, last Friday we were treated to Robert Gibbs making a big deal about the fact that Senator Shelby had basically shut down the entire Senate in order to get a couple of his earmarks inserted into the budget for this year in an unprecedented use of the Senate's rules. Thankfully, the media is on the Democrats side, as 2k5 just noted, so they clearly went crazy about it on the Sunday talk shows. * NBC's "Meet the Press" ignored the story. * CBS's "Face the Nation" ignored the story. * ABC's "This Week" ignored the story. * "Fox News Sunday" ignored the story. CNN actually gave it mention. And their reporting of course defended the Republicans and was flat-out incorrect by going with the "The Dems did it too" when the facts, of course, disagree. Thank God the Media is on my side. If it wasn't, then they might have covered that matter even more incorrectly. OMG THEY MISSED A STORY I AM VINDICATED!!!!

'Snowmageddon' blankets Mid-Atlantic in heavy snow
So it sounds like we are getting ours over a couple of days... Predictions are for about the same amount of snow, just spread over two days or so, and a bunch of blowing and drifting on top of it.

Catch All Anything Thread
QUOTE (lostfan @ Feb 7, 2010 -> 11:45 PM) Oh, and also my stepdaughter came outside to play around and was basically being useless, she wouldn't help and I told her if she wasn't going to at least attempt to do something then get out of my way. It was pissing me off b/c I shouldn't have to tell a 12 year old to pull her weight around the house but she stood around and mockingly pretended to give motivational speeches until I told her get out of my face. Then a couple hours ago she starts laughing and saying what a nice day it was "especially if you sat in the house and did nothing all day." I told her that was f***ing insulting, to STFU, and be mindful of how she was behaving next time she asked me for something. That finally got to her because she got really quiet. Short of slapping her in the face or something I can't MAKE her do anything and my wife wasn't helping at all... ugh Yeah, I am saving that picture for about 10 years from now when my kids start hitting that age.

Financial News
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 8, 2010 -> 06:30 AM) Reacting that way to a simple speech that didn't even really introduce new policy is a good definition of irrationality. Except that the speeches that have been reacted to the worst are the ones where he actually does things like talking about taxing banks and punishing the financial sector in general. You know actually things that could change the worth of a business?

Official 2009-2010 NBA Thread
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 7, 2010 -> 09:56 PM) No Balta, that is not my counterpoint. My counterpoint is that when the guy sees the court, he is incredibly selfish and never tries to play within a system, whatever system he has been in. Tyrus is the king of ill advised shots at crucial moments. He has never been a stop and pop player, yet thats what he always tries to be. His shot has never been consistent enough for him to get the ball at the top of the key and try and drain a 18-20 footer without even considering passing the ball to another player, which is what gets him benched nearly all the time. His defense is top notch, I love watching him swat away shots down low, but when it comes to him playing within an offense, he just never has gotten it. He has never earned more playing time, he has squandered it. I wanted the guy to be what everyone else saw in him, but it isnt happening. And you are right, people like Paxson should have to answer to selecting Tyrus and being incorrect in assuming that he could be coached up to a complete player. And maybe if he goes to a situation like Dallas or Phoenix or New York he will excel, but it isnt happening here, and its getting worse. TYVM

Tim Tebow to appear in anti-abortion Super Bowl ad
QUOTE (lostfan @ Feb 7, 2010 -> 10:03 PM) Yeah that was a very inoffensive, non-controversial commercial, to the point where the message wasn't even obvious... honestly it made everyone who made such a big deal out of it look kind of foolish. Yep. The commercial was lame.

Official 2009-2010 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 7, 2010 -> 07:44 PM) We're fans, we don't get paid by the organization. I think the same is true about Ozzie. If someone like Tyrus cussed out Ozzie, he'd be in a grave under the court floor right now. We'd all agree that Tyrus has the talent to be a top power forward in the league. Some say give him to an experienced coach, but would Phil or Sloan put up with him? God no. The only teams I can really see him succeeding with are teams like Golden State or the Knicks. He is an unmotivated Zach Randolph. He can't play a team game, and he thinks he should be the center of attention. He can't handle playing a role on a good team. The Clippers would be a great place for him.

Super Bowl XLIV
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 7, 2010 -> 07:23 PM) That was the most vehement pile for a football I've ever seen. The officials just stood their and watched, all except for the one guy trying to get to the bottom of the pile.

Official 2009-2010 NCAA Basketball Thread
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Feb 7, 2010 -> 10:00 AM) Yeah, I can't really denounce people who stormed the court yesterday since I did when Mizzou beat #16 Kansas last year. One thing I hated was Dick Vitale's preaching at the end of the game how bad rushing the court is. Dick it isn't your job to play fire marshal, so let the kids have fun and let us just soak in the image. I don't need to hear you stupid ass voice. This is the part I don't get. Who cares if a team rushes the court after a big win? Complaining about it sounds either snobby or sour grapes. Besides it isn't like their is a guidebook to when exactly it is acceptable to rush the court.

Official 2009-2010 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 7, 2010 -> 07:02 PM) Let me say it in a different way. If the team is going to spend the equivalent of a #2 pick on a guy who is already known as being very raw, then it better damn well make figuring out how to develop him priority #1. I never got the feeling that they had it even in their top 5 priorities at any point. IF they weren't going to, or couldn't develop him, then either the people who couldn't develop him should have been sacked, or the people who picked him should have been sacked. So how much time exactly do you waste on a guy that is a lost cause. You have three coaches and four years wasted so far. Taj is helping you win. Tyrus just needs to go away and grow up.
