Stimulus Bill Redux
QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 02:15 PM) Perhaps some did. I think it is the same with jobs created, impossible to prove, especially if we try a one to one causality. There are just too many factors to control. I think we can look at trends and within a range see what growth or loss we have. But, last I looked economics was an inexact science. But slowing growth or slowing loss is a real thing, it does happen. But you are right, proving exact numbers just ain't going to happen. So why do so many people want that number? Because the administration can't point to the economy improving when unemployment is still getting worse. Jobs saved gives them a chance to say that it could be much worse, but we did all of this and saved X.

Official 2009-2010 NHL Thread
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 12:37 PM) link Supposedly Toronto wants some young forwards for Kaberle, who has 17 points in 12 games. Lord only knows if this is true, but we certainly have young forwards to deal from (I'm thinking Ladd, Versteeg, etc, none of the big guns). Hopefully it frees up some money long term, that is all I ask.

Mark Gonzales Interview By WSI
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 12:05 PM) I know it's early in his career, but I get the feeling that Beckham could emerge as a vocal leader. I really get that feeling too. The kid is special from what I have seen so far.

Speculation: Johnny Damon to White Sox?
QUOTE (Big Daddy Kool @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 11:49 AM) Would Carl Crawford be a better upgrade than Pods or Damon. In the sense that he is a much better player, yes. In the sense that he would cost a good chunk of our system and payroll, maybe not.

Greatest spectacles in sports
I was watching some clips of the national anthem for Hawks games on You Tube and got to thinking, is this the greatest side show done now at a major sporting event? What else is there? The 7th inning stretch at Wrigley has become a joke. There are things like the dotting of the I at Ohio State and maybe the Rally Monkey in Anaheim.. What else is there?

Elections of 11/3/09
QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 09:47 AM) The black community really has no interest in gays, at all - something I don't understand. As liberal as blacks are as a whole, they are homophobic as hell and it's kinda embarrassing. I have noticed that is the case with many minority communities. The Hispanic population is that way as well. It strikes me as odd that communities who have historically been discriminated against, would so easily be in favor of discrimination towards others.

Speculation: Johnny Damon to White Sox?
QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 09:29 AM) There are going to be suitors for both Chone Figgins and Johnny Damon. Now I'm not sure if either of those guys will get away from their current teams, but their are teams out there who are very interested in their services. And a few of those teams are going to come up empty in that pursuit. They'll then look around the marketplace, see that Podsednik is available, coming off a .300 season, they'll see he played average defense this year, good team guy, and they'll throw him a bone at 2 years and $8 million or 10 million. I dunno, I could be way off base here. All we can do is wait. But that is my theory. They are also going to look at the same history of injury and ineffectiveness for long periods of his career, to go along with falling revenues and losing advertisers to realize that they aren't going to be able to throw around money like that for a guy who is coming off a careerish year.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 09:26 AM) Granted its a small 5-game sample size, but so far this season Greg Oden is averaging just under 23 minutes per game, 6.8 pts, 9.8 boards, 2.2 blocks, 4.8 fouls, 3.2 turnovers. Think the Blazers might regret passing on Durant now... You can say that in hindsight, but there is no way you pass up Greg Oden at that point in time.

Elections of 11/3/09
QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 09:03 AM) Sort of. You don't see mainstream gay organizations acting on behalf or in support of issues that affect other minority communities. Like issues of homelessness, and poverty, prisoner reentry, etc. Issues that really do matter for the larger community, and that have a large effect on our community too. The gay community, as a whole, isn't interested in getting its hands dirty in any issue that isn't exclusively theirs. And frankly, for too many of them, if it isn't a cocktail party lobbying effort (Read: Human Rights Campaign), it's too much to ask. Make sense.

Elections of 11/3/09
QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 08:50 AM) You know what though, our community deserves as much of the blame as anyone else. We don't get support for our issues from a broad base of the community because we don't stand with other communities for their needs. It's just as shameful as religions funneling money into misleading campaigns to deny millions of Americans equal protection under the law. You mean like organizing the gay community against say autism or something? I am not sure if I understand the first part.

Speculation: Johnny Damon to White Sox?
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 08:38 AM) Asking this question completely neutral, but to those who think Pods can get 2 years from the White Sox, what other teams out there are going to offer him 2 years or 1 year at good money? And especially in this marketplace, year two of the recession.

Elections of 11/3/09
QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 08:39 AM) I am a very angry gay today. At least it looks like we won "almost marriage" in Washington state. It's nice to know I'm almost equal somewhere. I don't blame you. It is reason number one why the government shouldn't be involved in people's personal lives if it can at all be helped. They end up putting themselves into situations that they are forced to make decisions about the value of one group or ideal over another. The government's only worry in marriage should be enforcing the contract law part of the partnerships. After that, it should be up to the individuals to decide who they are and what they want.

Elections of 11/3/09
QUOTE (Soxy @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 08:14 AM) Lame Maine, very lame. I think this is an excellent example of why our founding fathers put in the constitution certain protections against everything being decided on the basis of 50% +1. It doesn't always work the best.
