White Sox @ Seattle Mariners
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Sep 15, 2009 -> 10:17 PM) Who sez Dan Hudson is Garcia's only competition? If Freddy doesn't pitch well for the remainder of the season, then Kenny will have to consider a whole bunch of options other than just Hudson. I'm a Freddy fan and I pull for him based on what he's done in the past, but based on his recent arm problems, I'm certainly not as willing as Ozzie at this point to make him the #5 starter for next season. I still need to see more; hence, my comment about the need to see a few more starts between now and the end of the season. And we all know Kenny will fill up camp with potential Esteban Loiaza's, especially if the free agent market is as depressed as it was this year.

Healthcare reform
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 15, 2009 -> 10:15 PM) B.S. The obvious Kaperbolic response is "And according to Kap, poor people shouldn't get them." More like, a few people shouldn't be forced to pay for the entire world's health care system.

Trib's Most Recent Q&A
If people think we would hire a big named hitting coach to replace Walker, you all are crazy. Let me put it this way, how many big named managers and coaches have the Sox ever hired? I'd bet money someone gets promoted from within the system. Heck I could see a Buddy Bell being the guy to come here.

White Sox @ Seattle Mariners
Nice shot by Kotsay to bring two home, but again with fail with a runner on third and less than two outs.

Alex "Mother-Bleeper" Rios
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 15, 2009 -> 04:34 PM) Are we really sure about that? Hasn't their ownership situation basically been resolved, to the point that if the new owner wanted to start spending money again he could? There has been zero indication that they are going to raise the payroll over there. As a matter of a fact, the Rickett's deal took so long to get done because they were having trouble putting together the money to finish the deal. I don't see that changing with the choke job over there and the economy still not doing any favor to advertising revenues for sports franchises.

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Sep 15, 2009 -> 04:56 PM) I know, it was really more of a chapter 4 moment... It took you long enough to clear THAT one up. Geesh.

QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Sep 15, 2009 -> 03:35 PM) Usually yes. Last year, not so much. Cowley mentioned again over the weekend that losing the Pontiac sponsorship will hurt again this offseason. He said most of the heavy lifting has already been done. There's interest in Figgins (which is no secret) but teams like the Yankees and Cubs are also interested in Chone. The Sox don't win many bidding wars against those two teams. Time will tell what happens. The Cubs are out of the bidding unless they trade off some major salary.

We love you Gordon, oh yes we do
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 15, 2009 -> 02:43 PM) AJ and Beckham are best buddies. I hope so. Our players could learn a lot on the field from AJ.

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 15, 2009 -> 03:28 PM) http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090915/ap_on_.../us_patriot_act I didn't give this it's own thread because I think Obama has been pretty consistent that this was his position. Doesn't change the fact that I'm disappointed by it, though. Figures. The one time I would like Obama to act like a Democrat, he won't.

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 15, 2009 -> 03:38 PM) The awards were uncalled for, his behavior matched it. It might as well have been a major health care policy speech...

Healthcare reform
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 15, 2009 -> 11:46 AM) Going to the ER when your body finally gives out is not getting treatment. Going to the ER for cancer, or diabetes, or even hell the Swine Flu is not getting treatment. And I still can't figure out why you're so thrilled to foot the bill for that. It's like I offer you a $5000 tax bill or a $10000 tax bill and you decide you want to pay the latter. Yeah, the problem is when the government gets involved it will be the third option. An even bigger tax bill.

Healthcare reform
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 15, 2009 -> 10:55 AM) Because our system is designed in a way such that everyone makes more money the more they do. The more procedures a doctor orders, the more money they make. You guys like capitalism, you ought to understand that concept; if you make more money by ordering more care, you're going to order more care for people. The British, IIRC, do something different. If you pay doctors on salary, even if they're making really, really good salaries, then you remove the economic incentive where it benefits a doctor to overtreat. This points back directly to that test-case in El Paso TX we talked about a few times, where in McAllen TX, the doctors were ordering vastly more care for the same amount of tests as the city next door and were getting worse health care outcomes. So in other words you are admitting people will be getting less care, and less quality of care, while the government forces people to have less tests. Interesting.

Healthcare reform
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 15, 2009 -> 10:23 AM) As is the idea that you can't treat these people. As I keep saying, other countries have fewer doctors per capita than we already do and do just fine. So why is it that there is no spare capacity anywhere?
