Healthcare reform
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 09:45 AM) Tex, you see capacity, AP says otherwise. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32829974/ns/health-health_care Where have I heard this idea before... And that is without 10/30/45/50/80 million new patients.

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 08:07 AM) Actually, the key difference is that the Obama platform wants to intrude less into your private lives, but wants to take more of your money. I'd rather not give up more of EITHER, but if I have to choose one or the other, I'll choose giving up a little more in taxes, over more in freedoms. Maybe not into your bedroom, but they are still totally into your private life. They are wanting to dictate all kinds of things about how you live, and they want you to pay for it for everyone else to live their ideal life. The interesting thing about that last line is essentially that is how the Patriot Act got passed. Except for taxes, substitute security.

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 08:00 AM) Of course race plays some part in these rallies, its only a question of how much. Yeah, there are racists in each party. Yeah, not all, not most, probably not even a majority of these tea partiers are motivated in any significant way by race. But some chunk of them are definitely motivated on that factor, and I think its pretty silly to think that racism isn't more common among white, southern conservatives. It absolutely is. That is NOT to say that all people in that category are racist, or that everyone not in that category are not - just that the frequency is higher. No doubt about it. And I think Rex is right - the GOP as a group are more influenced and guided by these whack-jobs than the Dems are by the lefty whack-jobs. This is why I have gone from being a usually-Republican voter to a usually-Democratic voter - I have no patience or tolerance for the hate and the social crusading into people's private lives. I have issues with both parties' platforms, but the GOP's decision to follow the crazies off a cliff meant that I went from being a center-right guy to a center-left guy. What? The Obama platform has been all about getting into people's private lives. What do you think the health insurance debate is about? What do you think Cap and Trade is about? I know I am posting in the Dem thread, but if you guys think the same thing that motivates the Republican crazies and shapes their policies isn't happening to the Democrats, there is a lot of self-examination that needs to take place.

Freddy Garcia Piece
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 06:53 AM) Nice find@dbaho. And I would absolutely bring Freddy back for a measly million bucks next year. I think he's shown enough in 6 starts (not to mention we arguably don't win the division last year if Freddy doesn't have to leave the Detroit game prematurely because of injury) against some premium lineups that warrants the risk. Give me league average ERA/WHIP, something I think Freddy can easily accomplish if healthy, out of the #5 spot for that price and I'm one satisfied Sox fan. And for between one and three million dollars? That is a steal in this day and age.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 16, 2009 -> 11:46 PM) I have oh, 10,000 dollars ready to wager that we ain't gonna win the division. That's realistic. Actually that's just you being a dick. Get off of your horse and quit criticizing people's opinions.

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 16, 2009 -> 10:31 PM) he would have won with or without the small uptick in african american pop. voting. I mean, what I don't get is how you don't see that these dumb f***ing old white tea party protestors making racist signs, but, apparently aren't racist (just don't like demmycrats and deficits, i guess), are resorting to not opposition or pure villification, but rejection of legitimacy. Straight up Hitler signs I get, I mean it doesn't make sense, but hyperbole has always had it's place. Socialist, etc, fair game, whatever. But such a huge portion of this debunking him as our president. And don't equivocate this with 2000. That was the most contested election of our time, decided in a way it's never been decided before. So legitimacy of president makes more sense. But it's that he's not our President, he wasn't born here. He's not one of us, he's a muslim (all americans are christians). He's the anti-christ. What is that rooted in? Partisanship? Because if it's mere ignorance, then, they are adjacent fellows. And further I don't make threads everytime Saxby Chambliss tells that boy obama to be humble before the chamber. So much veiled language from southern republicans telling Obama not to be too uppity. But then you act as if we are calling Mike Pence racist for opposing Obama. We are looking at people doing completely ignorant bulls***, calling them on it, and then we're projecting because WE'RE racist. Right. I hate white people, that's a fact. I'm threatened by white people taking my jobs and moving in next door! I'm scared a white man might become president and give all the white people jobs! Because I'm RACIST That's just it, no one said there weren't any racists. There are racists on both sides. That was my point from the first post here. 90% of white people vote for the same person they have always voted for, that's racist. 90% of black people vote for a black person, its fine, because that's the party they have always voted for. Hell more GOPers voted for Obama than the did Clinton, Gore, or Kerry, and now they are racist. That's crap. Besides, remember the Tea Parties had next to no one at them, right? All of the sudden this is the entire Republican Party in the words of some. That is what I get sick of. And 2000 is a great example. Bush had all of those same things said about him, many times by people of the opposite party. He was called Hitler, anti-Christ, murderer, and pretty much everything under the sun. The difference is that back then it was socially accepted, and almost expected.

High school football
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 16, 2009 -> 10:11 PM) IIRC just from watching the scrimmage it comes down to line play. I don't know, of course without being there, if MVille has any size up front. I remember MC is pretty quick in pursuit, you could tell that, but if the D runs into size, they're going to wear down in a game. The amazing thing is that they have been the team wearing the opposition down. The last three weeks they have owned the 4th quarter. The last two weeks the RB has gone over 100 yards+ both times.

QUOTE (chunk23 @ Sep 16, 2009 -> 10:14 PM) So are you still saying racism plays no part in the protests? or is it I because I used a qualifier I'm just making stuff up? Just as much as racism played a part in Obama getting elected...

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 16, 2009 -> 09:57 PM) This week's going to be a really tough game. Merriville isn't a bad team. I saw their only loss is to Warren Central, and they're an Indianapolis 5A school that's pretty good AND they beat Ben Davis, who's almost always good. MVille leads the DAC in points scored and points allowed. The interesting thing is that we have been shutting offenses DOWN. Our D has been awesome, plus our top RB has put up 460ish yards the last two weeks, and MVille can't stop the run. I'll be honest, I haven't seen excitement like this here since the 90's when we had Mr Basketball on our team.

Undefeated and the #8 team in the state of Indiana, Michigan City is expecting something close to 10,000 people this year for homecoming.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Sep 16, 2009 -> 09:38 PM) They started out super slow this year. Danks, IMO, took a step back this year. I expected Danks to be something like 17-9 or something, but I guess I expected a lot. If Peavy stays healthy, Floyd starts out fast, and Danks gets consistent, they'll have a damn good staff next year. Problem is, that's a lot of "ifs". The sad thing is that Danks numbers are the best on the team this year.

QUOTE (MckayChristensenFan @ Sep 16, 2009 -> 09:26 PM) Dash stadium update: I talked with a superintendent with Samet, the general contractor that's building the stadium. He said work still hasn't resumed (they still haven't been paid from months ago), and there's no way it will be ready to start next season. He said if nothing is resolved by the 26th of September, the city will have to determine what to do with the project (the city has invested a lot of money in the project, so they'll have to decide what their options are). Samet was asked if they'd buy the stadium, and they said no. He told me the whole project has become a mess. Will they have somewhere to play in 2010 if the stadium is not done?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 16, 2009 -> 09:35 PM) CQ still has a lot to learn about hitting IMO. I am not just saying this cause Gavin is getting lit up. But he's 11-10. Why do we all assume our rotation is going to be unstoppable next year. Gavin is not Tom Seaver. Danks is not Sandy Koufax. They are good, but why are we assuming next year will be balls out excellence?? TCQ needs to be healthy. You can tell his drive in the box isn't quite right.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 16, 2009 -> 07:47 PM) He's made somewhere around $80 million guaranteed in his career already. I don't think he's going to find himself living on the streets if something bad happens to him. Now, if I got ran over by a bus, I'd be dead. If he has back problems, the worst place he will find himself is a nice house in paradise. Big difference. What do you think happens if a broken bone in your spinal column moves around too much?
