  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 02:28 PM) Do you really believe the Sox would take on a $60 million + contract when they are 3 games out with 2 months to play and think its for next year and not this, especially considering their CF situation, and expect Rios to be as horrible as he's been? Its not like the guy is a rookie who needs a few months of seasoning. The waiver claim, at least for this year, blew up in KW's face, and as I stated earlier, I'm not so convinced he really wanted Rios, he may have been blocking him, but that's another thing I do not think he would ever admit. So do you think they were making up wanting Rios in the past? Plus knowing the way the Sox do budgets and contracts, there is no way they put out a waiver claim on a guy with $60 million outstanding unless they wanted him long term. This isn't the Yankees we are talking about. The Sox are about as conservative as they come. Heck this would have rated as the biggest free agent signing in team history if it had been done that way.
  2. Its vintage Jordan. No one made a big deal out of it back in the day, mostly because the writers were too busy making sure they didn't upset him, but it exactly who Michael has always been.
  3. QUOTE (Cubano @ Sep 11, 2009 -> 09:48 PM) A little Cuban history. Native Cubans (Tainos, Siboneyes) inhabited the island. Then, the Spaniards came. Unlike the indians in Central America, North America and South America, the indians in the Caribbean were weaker as a race and were not as many as in other parts. They were very susceptible to illnesses combined with their small populations and hard labor, they were extinct quickly. The Spaniards who claim they discovered the new world, but the new world was already there brought Spanish names and last names. They also brought the Spanish guitar. The Spaniards brought the slaves from Africa and their drums when no more indians were available. That is our West-African influence. Spanish guitar plus drum = Son Cubano or Cuban Salsa which is the original. That Salsa name was given to Cuban music by Latinos in New York. Going back to the history. Some Americans came to Cuba. Some Chinese came to Cuba. Some Haitians came to Cuba. Some Jamaicans came to Cuba. Some Russians (not many) came to Cuba. Haitians and Jamaicans came looking for better opportunities before the Cuban Taliban Castro stole power. Then, you have Leslie Anderson, Alexei Bell, Alfredo Despaigne, Aroldis Chapman, Michel Gorguet, Kenen Bailly, Pedro Poll, etc. Most of these Haitians and Jamaicans descendants are located in the east part of Cuba. Guantanamo, Santiago de Cuba, Granma, Holguin... I hope this help. Very interesting. I never knew any of the history from down there. Thanks.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 11, 2009 -> 05:27 PM) Are the Tigers giving Magglio his 20 at bats for the 18 mill option to kick in? I could see that as a polarizing issue if they are droppng games just to not play Maggs. How the hell did he get a contract with an 18 mill option that kicks in if he gets so many at bats?? 18 mill? My god. That was the contract he signed 5 years ago. That wasn't considered too much money then.
  5. Lame. All of the cool people care about hockey season starting.

  7. QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 12:06 PM) I am kinda stuck going. I have promised alot of people I would be there. My only hope is that the one girl shows up later to the party like she said and I will leave early because I have to work tomorrow. Too bad you don't have million dollars.
  8. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 11, 2009 -> 08:28 PM) His D at 3B is holding him back. Plus he wasn't up April and May. Not being up here the first two months is the biggest thing holding him back.

QUOTE (RibbieRubarb @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 09:05 AM) Robert Zemeckis is remaking the Beatles "Yellow Submarine" using his motion capture style ala Beowulf and Polar Expess. The Beatles and Apple Corps are involved in the production. Wow, that ought to be interesting.
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 12:02 PM) When a guy like Glenn Beck, who once said this: ...tells people to go to Washington to protest something I can't help but to agree with Maher's assessment. Because every single person is there because Glen Beck told them to do it? Please. I don't want to see you criticize people for massive generalizations anymore if you are going to feed me a line like that.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 11:36 AM) His quote was when he acquired Peavy and Rios that the Sox were now ready to compete with the big boys, so while he had to have the future in mind considering the contract, and who knows if he really wanted the contract or wanted to block a team like Detroit, who could have picked him up and waived Magglio, actually saving them some money in the short term, from getting him, he definitely was considering 2009 and Rios hasn't performed anywhere near what KW could have possibly expected. Do you really believe for a second that anyone in the White Sox management group would come out and say, yeah we suck. This is totally for next year, with something like 50-60 games left in the season and us a couple of games out of first place?

I can't believe 7 people actually posted that they have never listened to a Beatles album all of the way through. You all are missing out on one of the biggest influences on modern music out there.
  13. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 11:13 AM) At least they actually make cars in the US. Much of the rest of the massive trade deficit is a complete bust. Like Obama says, those 7 million jobs lost during the recession are gone forever. Nice leadership. The cash does go out of the country, and does contribute to the trade balance.
  14. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 10:58 AM) The Sox were 3 games out of first when the claim was made with 2 months to play and a hole in CF. Does anyone REALLY think KW was thinking of next year when he claimed him? He has a contract for years... He had better of been thinking of the next few years at least.
  15. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 11:06 AM) Chuck Schumer is supposedly going to come out with his 'immigration reform' bill in a week or two. I'm sure it will be total garbage. Yup, great timing right about the same time as the immigration bill...
  16. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 10:17 AM) ouch. Thank you cash for clunkers for reving up Toyoda and Honda's sales.
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 10:48 AM) "The million moron march" - Bill Maher More Healther propaganda.
  18. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 11, 2009 -> 11:10 AM) Anaheim, New York, Seattle, Minnesota, Baltimore, Toronto, Cleveland, Detroit, Tampa, Texas, and Kansas City all have better options at lead off than the Sox. We haven't even touched the NL. I'm holding it against the franchise because the organization has treated the position like its a unicorn. Obviously reliable lead-off men do exisit. It's time for the Sox to either develop one or acquire one. They are real. How many of those guys can we get?
  19. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Sep 11, 2009 -> 03:08 PM) It was pretty moronic of him to fire Tony LaRussa and try to move Carlton Fisk to left field. A bad GM doesn't mean he has no idea what he is talking about.
  20. Am 1000 is reporting he will be in the line up tonight.
  21. QUOTE (RibbieRubarb @ Sep 11, 2009 -> 08:51 AM) I am going to rent out my house for the month and go on a cruise!! Maybe I'll stick around for the opening ceremonies, though. Then I'm on a BOAT MOTHERf***ERS!!! Someone needs to photoshop Ribbie and Rhubarb into this
  22. Oh you haven't lived unless your kid has force you to watch Finding Nemo, like, 25 times.
  23. Its hard to bench Dye, but I think you might be right. If the back is as bad as it looks, it is time. Watch Dye's swing on a pitch on the outer half. It is brutal.
