  1. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 30, 2009 -> 12:28 PM) That wouldn't be the worst idea, but if Japan actually did suddenly come up with nukes (and this is the Japanese we're talking, it really wouldn't take that long) then that would f*** everything up. It'd probably tip the scales in our favor some in the short-term, but in the long term it's a game-changer and it'd probably push us to a new Cold War. China would go apes*** given the past historical implications between them and Japan. They would take to actively arming NK to balance out the region IMO.
  2. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 30, 2009 -> 01:09 PM) so now what do they do if Josh gets on a roll? Move Beckham back to SS or 2B? Those are the kind of problems you like to have. If Fields get back to where he was in 07 even, this offense is just nasty deep 1-9 once TCQ gets back. Beckham will find a place on this field, I have no doubt about that.
  3. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ May 30, 2009 -> 01:14 PM) I haven't read this whole thread to see if its been mentioned, but am I the only person to think KW will aggressively go after Bedard? I don't think it has been said in this thread, but most are of the opinion that Ozzie would eat Bedard for lunch. Ozzie likes his pitchers tough and fearless, not mushy like pudding.
  4. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 30, 2009 -> 11:26 AM) Disagree, the best we can hope for is league-average production. A guy with Jose's mileage just doesn't figure it out all of the sudden. Its not matter of figuring out, because he has it in him. It is being able to get past the physical and mostly mental limitations that come after a long layoff and a major injury.
  5. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 30, 2009 -> 01:06 PM) wonder who's going away when he comes back....wise...pods...BA....one of them, right? Right now my money is on pods. The way they are playing now it HAS to be Wise. Pods is doing exactly what Ozzie has been looking for at the top of the order for years. As long as he is hitting above .250-.260, and is healthy, he is going to be leading off.
  6. QUOTE (High Mileage @ May 30, 2009 -> 12:43 PM) Another good outing today by Buehrle and he's definitely in the Cy Young discussion. When line-up's are posted, I'd appreciate if someone could post the KC one too. Today's game is on national broadcast, correct? Hey welcome to the site! Its always nice to get the opposing point of view!
  7. I know Clayton was mentioned by some during his ascent through the Sox system, but I know that no one here at least expected what we have seen out of him since be became a starter. Do people think that this is going to be the Clayton Richard that we see going forward, or are there people out there who are expected the same, once through the order, guy, that we saw last year? Should we even be talking about trading Clayton, even in a package for a top of the line starter?
  8. QUOTE (JDsDirtySox @ May 30, 2009 -> 09:26 AM) Is Bajenaru out of baseball now? Yeah he retired. I still talk to him occasionally. Him and his wife have a beautiful toddler boy, and they are doing well down in Arizona.
  9. Yesterday was the first time all season that the Cubs won a game while scoring less than 4 runs.
  10. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 30, 2009 -> 03:45 AM) FWIW, I've made this comparison/prediction for a while now, but Gordon Beckham is going to be our Derek Jeter. If we get anything remotely close to Jeter out of Gordo, I will be thrilled to death. Yeah, he isn't as good as the NY hype machine makes him out to be, but he is a special hitter, and a gamer.
  11. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 30, 2009 -> 09:13 AM) He can absolutely be an elite power hitter. He has all the power in the world. He's one of those guys that just needs to realize he can hit home runs without even trying. If he will just continue to shorten that swing of his he has a future, if he does not, he'll be looking for another career. Big game tonight. Need to get this one against Meche because we have Greinke to deal with tomorrow. Hawk made an interesting point about Fields last night. He said that when his top hand comes off of the bat (like he has all year) his front shoulder quits rotating, and he loses that power. When he keeps the top hand through, he finishes his swing, and the ball jumps off of his bat when he makes contact.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 29, 2009 -> 03:37 PM) Who says I haven't? Seriously though, I wouldn't be out there defending this guy like I am, except that the other options are terrible. I do think that Kroeger has a chance to be a solid major leaguer if given the chance, but alas, it ain't happening in Chicago, unless Wise or Pods gets hurt in the near future. It reminds me of my sad Jeff Bajenaru obsession... We need a support group
  13. As I understand it your best chance to try to find out what hotel they are staying at, and ask people in the lobby. The big thing for autographs at a game is not to interupt their pregame routines. Most guys won't sign when they are in various stages of their warm ups.
  14. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ May 29, 2009 -> 07:58 PM) This is good for a laugh: http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=69219 So how many links do you have saved to try to make people look bad?
  15. He has zero trade value unless you pick up the remainder of his contract. And we won't do that, so no, he has no trade value.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 29, 2009 -> 09:43 PM) Didn't Jimmy Gobble used to have a fastball? He tried showing it to Mark Teahan...
  17. Great pick up by the Bears. It adds strength to a strength.
  18. QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ May 29, 2009 -> 04:20 PM) Or just a poor tester? With his highschool gpa he needed a score of 900 plus to be elgible for division 1 schools, some of the smartest people i know are horrible test takers for one reason or another. If Derrick Rose can't get a 900 on the SAT, he should be drooling on himself. Seriously.
  19. I think Josh Fields is getting the message.
  20. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ May 29, 2009 -> 02:23 PM) All I saw is he's retroactive from the 26th....but nothing more. Is it expected he will be back after 15 days or not?!?!?!?!?!!?!?! Ozzie said in the pregame he should be back at the end of his 15 days. QUOTE (chw42 @ May 29, 2009 -> 03:39 PM) This is 15 day right? Yes.
  21. Interesting. I though we were OK at catcher, and Broadway was doing what we needed as the last pitcher on the roster. I guess Castro helps if anything ever happens to AJ.
  22. EAT s*** KANSAS s***TY!!!! DYE FIELDS RICHARD ALEXEI AJ
  23. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 29, 2009 -> 03:33 PM) Nice. I gotta say also I'd rather have a dumb kid with a high basketball IQ (Rose) than a smart kid with a low basketball IQ (Tyrus) and this comming from the ultimate Tyrus Thomas fan. And no Derrick Rose isn't dumb.. he is lazy, but not dumb. Very smart kid that just made a dumb decision... to trust his brother.. If you can't get good enough grades or SATs on our own to get into Memphis, you are dumb.
  24. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 29, 2009 -> 03:26 PM) That's such bulls***. They don't prevent from making money at all. No one is forcing them to go to college. At the end of the day it is still their choice to attend. Plenty of other options out there for them. I would really like to hear how the NBA having hiring requirements is any different than any other job saying that you have to have a college degree or the like to work there. These kind of requirements happen all over life, I am not sure why it is evil when the NBA does, but OK when say a steel mill does it.
  25. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 29, 2009 -> 12:36 PM) I'm not really sure what you are trying to say there. You want an A in a class because you got an A in another class? I dont see how thats the same at all. These guys got grades or help to get grades to keep them on the floor to continue to bring revenue and attention to their school. I dont see how you would do that for a school at all. And to be clear, the schools should all be sanctioned to at least keep them from doing this in the immediate future, but this is not isolated, for every recruit that doesnt go to memphis, they will go to the next school that puts dollars in their pockets and keeps them eligible to play and develop their game for their career. Its a great point. Basically you are saying because Rose gets a A in basketball, he should be able to get an A in anything else he needs to get to the NBA, no matter what the NBA or NCAA requires.
