The Republican Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 12, 2009 -> 04:31 PM) The dismantling of unions over the past 30 years or so has done wonders for the expansion of the middle class. The unions are destroying the middle class instead of helping it over the last two generations at least. They just about did it in the 80's, but somehow hung on.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 12, 2009 -> 12:28 AM) Yes, I kept thinking that every time I'd see Torchetti behind the bench. Duds still has a big role with the team as well. Like I said, I'd MUCH rather watch Chicago play Detroit then Vancouver play Detroit. At least Chicago will make it fun to watch. And as bad as I hate Detroit in anything, I want to see the Hawks spank the wheel right off their f***ing jerseys. I'm just disappointed for Hordi because this is the best team he's played on and he played a pretty good role in this series. He's finally stepped up in the playoffs, which was good to see. And we used to think he ran a bad PP back in the K's days. Wow.

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ May 12, 2009 -> 02:07 PM) Kaner's 2nd goal won that game for us. I know a lot of people would say Burish's goal...a 4th line goal, was the big one. But just look at Luongo after Kane tied it at 5. He had no way of stopping us. I think Rosenbloom said it best. Kane's 2nd goal was opportunity, Toews 2nd goal was luck and Kane's third goal was skill. Any way the Nucks wanted to play, the 'hawks played...and eventually beat them. I really don't think it matters who the 'hawks play because after destroying Luongo, they have the confidence to beat anyone. Even the Dead Wings. BTW, Luongo has NEVER allowed 7 goals as a Canuck. NEVER. In fact...the last time he allowed 7 or more goals were back-to-back games in 1999-2000: Luongo with the Islanders Actually that isn't true. He did it in the first two games of this series.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 12, 2009 -> 12:57 PM) I hated on Kane, Campbell and Buf all year. I am glad I was proven wrong. I think Buf really got into Roberto's head early in the series and it affected him throughout. He actually was about to break down after the game. He had to walk away becasue he was crying or about to. It was a great moment becasue you saw the emotion and the impact of losing and his beliefthat he let his team and city down. I actually felt bad for him. I wonder if Lu was hurt worse than he let on when they had the injury stoppage for him in the game. After that point he really seemed to fall apart.

Getz
I think Getz profiles as an excellent two hitter in the future. If he can learn to turn that lazy fly to left, into a liner or grounder to the left side, his average will consistently hit .300. He has shown he isn't bothered by giving himself up, or by seeing a bunch of pitches, which is a big aid for guys like TCQ hitting behind him.

Are you in or out?
QUOTE (Texsox @ May 12, 2009 -> 07:32 AM) Well, when it comes to baseball, or any subject for that matter, I'm an idiot, or so I've been told (repeatedly). At least I can laugh about it. I have mentioned this before, but I will repeat it for the new posters. After 30+ years of following this team, you have to enjoy the sport and the entertainment that is White Sox baseball. Perhaps I am one of the last of Veecks "World's biggest saloon" holdouts. We are not Yankee fans who can expect to win a Championship a few times per decade. So I accept what is on the field and enjoy the season. I am not going to lose sleep over it, getting mad about it is about as sane as getting mad because Jennifer Aniston made a crappy movie and you are a fan of hers. Allow me to post a few Bill Veeck quotes that I appreciate. The most beautiful thing in the world is a ballpark filled with people. Bill Veeck The true harbinger of spring is not crocuses or swallows returning to Capistrano, but the sound of the bat on the ball. Bill Veeck There are only two seasons - winter and Baseball. Bill Veeck What can I do, I asked myself, that is so spectacular that no one will be able to say he had seen it before? The answer was perfectly obvious. I would send a midget up to bat. Bill Veeck Somewhere in there is why I love White Sox baseball. A long time ago I accepted I may never see a Sox World Series, I was wrong. But I have accepted I may never see another one. Every win, every player like Mark Buehrle or Frank Thomas, is to be cherished. So some fans, including many here, can get frustrated and s*** all over my team, but that is your choice and how you want to enjoy this team. The saloon is big enough for everyone. Just don't get annoyed when I cheer when you want to spew a profanity laced diatribe at the team. I often times wonder if many of the negative posters here are just trying to convince themselves how smart they are about baseball by posting the 1001 ways a team can fall apart and lose.So in the end who is smarter? The fans who enjoy the boys of summer, or those who spend so much time and energy saying this team sucks? That is a great last paragraph. If you are miserable, you are doing it wrong. Turn off the TV and find something you enjoy instead.

Would the Sox Draft Strasburg?
QUOTE (santo=dorf @ May 11, 2009 -> 05:58 PM) The Sox just don't deal with Boras, PERIOD. They've already released their first Boras signing in forever, Ben Broussard, and that was just a minor league deal. The Sox and other teams wouldn't sign Porcello for what, $12 million? The Sox have a hard enough time trying to give out $50 million to their established players. To be fair, the release had nothing to do with who Broussard's agent was. It was because BB sucked.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 11, 2009 -> 10:38 PM) ...and you fools all laughed when I called Hawks in 6. We're going to play the Red Wings. No way the queer Ducks beat them. It'll be a damn battle, but once again, Hawks will win in 6, and they will play the Caps in a 5 game series and win the Stanley Cup. Please God, GO HAWKS!!! I said months ago that we could beat any team outside of San Jose, Detroit, or Boston. Now the boys need to prove me wrong.

Drew Peterson arrested
QUOTE (G&T @ May 9, 2009 -> 09:19 AM) Doubtful unless they are all going to turn on their own guys. This comes down to the new law that will allow Savio's letters to be admissible in court which will help to establish intent. SOunds like the law might be unconstitutional, because it deprives Peterson of his right to confront his accuser, in this case, his dead wife.

That was a stupid f***ing penalty by Buff. No need for that at all.

Buff is the one guy on this team that is built for playoff hockey. That big body is a huge asset when the game turns into a grind, instead of the wide open style of the the regular season.

Pincus -- Newspapers with agenda's welcome
QUOTE (bmags @ May 9, 2009 -> 12:07 PM) Well, not bias for bias sakes, I think themes. Okay, I mean, eliminate balance - not meaning you don't give the other side an opportunity to respond should there be two sides in a story - rather, just because you write a negative story doesn't mean you have to balance it with a positive story. I think what I appreciate is the idea of a theme the paper hammers. The best stuff that happened in the tribune was Blago, OBama-Rezko and (back a little) the death row inmates scandal. They took a while to develop, but it was stories the Tribune owned and it forced politicians to answer for them. I wish the same effect could be had of Daley. I really wonder why no one has taken Daley down yet. So many people have bit the bullet for him, and yet no one has ratted him out yet. It's odd.

Would the Sox Draft Strasburg?
If the Sox had the number one pick, they would have no choice. They could not pass on the face of a franchise. They would have a much better sell to the fans in drafting him and not being able to get him signed, versus passing on him all together.

Contreras Out of the Rotation
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 8, 2009 -> 11:19 PM) I was sitting behind the White Sox dugout tonight, and I know Contreras was bad and has been bad, but some of the classless people around there are way out of line with what they are yelling at him. The guy is perhaps the biggest reason there is a trophy at that park. He also is a guy that wasn't supposed to pitch until August, if ever again. Remove him from the rotation, but the Count will rise again, and all these "fans" will be singing another tune. I understand the whole, "I bought a ticket, I have a right to be an asshole" talk, the funny thing is most of the people who pop off didn't buy their own ticket, but saying disgusting things like what was being thrown at Jose shouldn't be said to anybody higher than Drew Peterson. The same types of things get said about players here too. It is embarrassing in any case.

QUOTE (danman31 @ May 9, 2009 -> 05:14 AM) Why are we taking guys that throw mid to high 80s in the 3rd round? Mark Buehrle types fall deep into the draft like he did. Draft velocity early, wtf. I thought MB fell in the draft because he was a draft and follow?
