Tribune Co to file bankruptcy?
QUOTE (scenario @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 10:06 PM) It's not that big of a deal actually. Chapter 11 Bankruptcy is a process that a lot of corporations use to help renegotiate debt. The Trib has some extremely large debt payments coming due. That's the motivation I believe. Typically firms in Chapter 11 continue normal operations. You should only be really concerned if they owe you money. The one thing that could be interesting is that the sale of the Cubs would have to be negotiated and approved by a bankruptcy court if this was to happen. It makes their sale a potential nightmare for the buyers.

POST YOUR QUESTIONS FOR DAVID COOK!
David Cook, the strong slugging outfielder of the Charlotte Knights has agreed to answer some questions for us. Between Birmingham and the Knights last year David slammed 19 homers along with 56 driven in, with only 430 ABs because of an injury. He is currently playing down in the Domincan leagues for some ABs and to keep working on his skills. Let's hear what you want to ask David about!

Post your questions for Sergio Miranda
Sorry for the delay in the interview... Apparently Sergio is having computer problems and can't get the replies sent back. We will have it up as soon as we have it in our greasy little hands... Also we are working on getting some more interviews set up. We have a request out to another player in the system right now, if we get a yes answer, we will start taking questions for him.

Sox and Brewers talking Jenks....
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 02:25 AM) But did you also think the White Sox would shop Buehrle, Konerko, Thome, Dye, Jenks, Javy, Swisher and AJ this offseason too? I just think that Hardy's power numbers are respectable, but that many believe Escobar has a nice upside and they need to invest that money that Hardy will start making into someone better than Jeff Suppan...or investing in Japan, DR, Venezuela, etc. Quoting HR statistics alone doesn't tell the WHOLE story. Reyes is 5X the ballplayer Hardy is, but he has fewer homers. It's like saying Dye is clearly the best MLB RFer over the last four seasons because he has the most homers. Not sure I am willing to go along with that, because defensive ability is also important, especially at SS. Wait, when were AJ and MB shopped? I totally missed those rumors/stories.

Some parting words from Javy
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 03:59 PM) Nick Swisher was absolutely terrible last year and he still had a higher OPS than Ryan Sweeney. Correct me if I am wrong, but the people who seemed to have the biggest problems with that deal were more mad about who we gave up, versus who we got. Did anyone really say they thought Swisher would suck so bad last season? People were more upset about losing DLS and company.

Options for LF IF Dye goes....
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 08:19 AM) But would you REALLY want to bring back Jon Garland to Chicago at a price tag of $12 million or higher? Based on last season, in what isn't exactly a hitter's park, especially at night? Maybe? I guess it's a possibility, considering he wouldn't cost a draft pick, but KW keeps hammering away at the point that it's possible to get much better production out of a 4/5 starter for considerably less than Vazquez's $11.5 million last year. Well, I guess if Jamie Moyer is asking for $20 million over 2 years at his age, almost anything is possible. Judging by the low bids for free agents this year, I get the feeling that Jon Garland isn't going to get even $10 million per season this off season.

Rumors: Sox/Reds Talking Dye for Bailey Swap
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 08:56 AM) I think Crede is going to be a huge bust for whoever he signs with. And I still havent heard anything about this deal which makes me think that someone leaked this to the media because of another deal. It doesn't even have to be something devious. Its easy to see someone in Homer Bailey's camp excited blurting this out to the wrong person, or telling someone in confidence because he is ready to get a fresh start in a new organization.

Rumors: Sox/Reds Talking Dye for Bailey Swap
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 08:45 AM) This team will be better in some areas for 2009, but KW is obviously planning a refresh of talent, which is the right direction for this club. Also this deal isnt a 1 for 1, it most definately includes other players from their side. We are heading in the right direction, there is no doubt in my mind. I would just hate to see JD leave on a personal level. I am a big fan of his, but can recognize when this makes the name on the front of the jersey better, and ultimately that is my #1 choice.

Rumors: Sox/Reds Talking Dye for Bailey Swap
I missed quoting the post, but whoever said I'd be happy if the deal is done, and happy if it wasn't was spot on. We would be a better team for 2010 and beyond for sure, maybe even 2009 depending on how Bailey bounced back. I would hate to see JD go as he has been a 100% class act his whole time here. He has gone about his business as an absolute professional no matter what.

Rumors: Sox/Reds Talking Dye for Bailey Swap
QUOTE (daa84 @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 08:33 PM) dude on WSI says rumor says that encarnacion is in on the deal but we may have to pay half JDs salary...take that FWIW...which is probably very little edit: fixed for accuracy Wow. That would be a huge winner for the Sox.

Rumors: Sox/Reds Talking Dye for Bailey Swap
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 08:31 PM) According to Cowley Jermaine Dye's agent has yet to hear anything about a trade from the Sox and KW isn't talking to the media. If Kenny isn't talking, this is a done deal.

Rumors: Sox/Reds Talking Dye for Bailey Swap
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 08:24 PM) I don't think KW would do anything without being apprised of Cabrera's decision. As mentioned, it was "completed" before the WM even started...apparently. We needed another pitcher, everyone knows that, and Bailey is a better risk than Edwin Jackson IMO. This is a trade that KW has had his eye on for a long time, and independent of the SS situation. And the fact that it happened when the story leaked about the arbitration status getting out is very telling IMO.

What Happened to Pursuing Orlando Hudson?
QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 07:34 PM) Cowley has been throwing the names of Hudson and Figgins around since at least the middle of last season. Acquiring both players made a whole lot of sense, but you can argue that neither makes sense right now. I still like Figgins though. How good has Cowley been at historically projecting who the Sox will go after? I'll be honest, I don't remember anyone significant being in a JC column who ended up with the Sox.

Rumors: Sox/Reds Talking Dye for Bailey Swap
Wow. I really didn't think this would happen after the last couple of trades. The Sox have to have another move up their sleeve, because they can't go into next year with most of their most marketable players gone. They will have a hard time selling this if they don't figure out a way to plug some other holes. And I will be really pissed off if this move was forced by Cabrera coming back to the Sox.
-
What Happened to Pursuing Orlando Hudson?
I don't believe anyone in the Sox organization ever mentioned Hudson. It was all writers speculation.

$700 Billion Bailout
QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 03:03 PM) Hey would you look at that, I sort of almost changed somebody's mind. Without even trying. I am always willing to listen. If you don't listen, you don't learn new things. I would have never known about the change in the pension plans status.

Official 2008-2009 NHL Thread
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 12:38 PM) Agreed. I don't care how big of a jery Avery is, to suspend him 6 games over that comment is absolutely pathetic. Btw, the Blackhawks are the "clubhouse leaders" (along with the Flyers) to acquire Mats Sundin according to the Denver Post. http://blogs.denverpost.com/avs/2008/12/04/sundin-or-no/ Thoughts? Wow this would be incredible.
