Chicago @ Tampa Bay - ALDS Game 1
QUOTE (CryptviLL @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 06:09 AM) im looking there, just sucks that none of them fit my situation. I need 1 ticket, perferably in the upper deck for less then $100, and i cant have these damn auctions!! If i get a ticket i wanna be @ the game at noon, and not fighting to get a parking spot at 1:30pm. These auctions last til noon, which blows cause im about an hour away without traffic :S Go up to the park and hang out. You will find someone trying to get rid of a ticket. One extra is pretty easy.

Chicago @ Tampa Bay - ALDS Game 1
QUOTE (CryptviLL @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 08:06 PM) Does anyone know or have any experiences of walking up to a game like this (big playoff game) and trying to get tickets? Is their anyway id be able to be at the trop tommorow getting tickets? or no chance? The later you are willing to wait hanging around the park, the further the scalper prices come down.

For those who were at the game....
My personal favorite moments from the game... 1. The play at the plate. 2. Mauer bunting in the eighth 3. Ozzie leaving Danks in after a running reached in the eighth, and then getting the DP 4. The line out DP in the first 5. The Anderson catch to end it 6. The Thome HR 7. Singing Steam with 40,000 of my closest friends after Blackburn was lifted 8. Gardenhire using Kubel as the tying run, instead of bunting Gomez, and making Jenks get off of the mound and field the ball 9. Jenks lighting up the gun and the crowd in the 9th 10. The players standing at attention for the national anthem, even the guys from other countries But all time greatest moment from that game was absolutely getting the champagne sprays from Juan Uribe and Jim Thome

AND THATS A CENTRAL DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!!
QUOTE (TLAK @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 05:21 AM) One last comment on the game, wasn't it great to hear Nancy Faust again? I really miss her playing the night games. Even in such an intense game her word play (like Morneau has broken ...) brought a needed smile. And when they pulled Blackburn she really pumped up "Hey, Hey, Hey Goodbye", between the organ and the crowd singing, the place absolutely shook. Old time White Sox baseball, baby. Funny, the impressions that stick with you. It was quite a night. I'm glad you mentioned that, because I said it early, and had forgotten about it in the midst of the rest of the game. Nothing is as great as Nancy playing some Steam, while 40,000 of her closest friends sing-a-long.

AND THATS A CENTRAL DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!!
QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 06:03 PM) I was listening to KFAN today, which is a Minnesota sports radio station and they were slamming Joe Mauer like no other because of bunting in his 3rd at bat. They were calling him afraid to hit against Danks since he had strucken out both previous times. Being the league leader in batting average, you shouldn't try for a bunt to get on base, according to them. I kind of agree with them, you have to question bunting when he's the league leader in average. Two things at work there. He definately did us a favor by bunting in that exact situation. Secondly, that is a hit in the dome. He deadened that ball so much because he is used to the roll on the turf in the RollerDome. At a grass stadium the ball sticks. Mauer didn't adjust for the road.

If BA was in center in the 5th inning . . .
QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 03:55 AM) just curious, did the twins have anyone on the bench from the minors or whatever/expanded roster, that had more speed than cuddyer that could replace his position in the field? you'd have to think that someone with actual speed would've scored there They used Tolbert to pinch run in the 8th and Cuddy was the DH, so I don't think the D replacement would be problem

QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 03:31 PM) I'm wondering if Anderson was in center if the Twins would have sent Cuddyer? I have said repeatedly during the last couple days that Anderson doesn't throw out Cuddyer at the plate, and Griffey doesn't make the catch in the 9th. Anderson has a better arm, but the first time I see him hit the target at homeplate, it will be the first. Griffey doesn't have the range that Anderson does (duh).

TOMORROW'S GAME IS A BLACK OUT!
The blackout effect in the ballpark, in person, was just visually stunning. I'll bet it looked awesome in HD, because it was spectacular being there.

Chicago @ Tampa Bay - ALDS Game 1
Getting off to a quick start in the Trop Dome would be huge in this series. Getting on base and scoring a couple of runs in the first inning could really sow the seeds of doubt for a team that has never been there before. The longer the game stays scoreless or Tampa is ahead, the better chance they have in the entire series.

POST YOUR QUESTIONS FOR CJ RETHEFORD
CJ has agreed to talk to us, so let's hear what you would like to ask him. For reference sake, Scenario has done excellent work on his AAP page if you all would like more info on him. Hopefully this is the first of many talks we can arrange over the next few months. Let's hear those questions for CJ and for Sergio@!!!

AND THATS A CENTRAL DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!!
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 11:05 AM) The 461 measurement made perfect sense. He hit a ball to basically the exact same spot on June 4th and it was measured at 464 feet. The one in June was a hair closer to dead center, which is probably why it got the 3 extra feet, but is otherwise pretty much hit to the same spot. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/recap?gid=280604104 You can check out the video of it here by clicking on video and "Thome two-run homer". http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?g...kcamlb_chamlb_1 I think both homers were closer to 475 feet, maybe even 500, but that's just me. If you compare those to Borchards 504 ft shot, there is doubt in my mind Big Jim is getting hosed.

2008 General Election Discussion Thread
QUOTE (Soxy @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 10:47 AM) But, and I say this with love, Professors, in general, are incapable of relating to other human beings. Palin is, for all of her faults, good at relating to people. So, I would think she's the perfect candidate to bring complex issues to people in a palatable and understandable way. Honestly watching her interviews makes me think she's in over her head. I agree with the first part of that 100%!

2008 General Election Discussion Thread
QUOTE (Soxy @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 10:12 AM) I don't know. I think that if you really understand something on a 401 level, you can make it accessible to people at a lower level of understanding. I can remember a couple of the classes I had in college that the professors couldn't relate to 101 classes. It was just horrible. I learned less from them because they couldn't figure out how to dumb it down enough to teach to an intro level class.

Term Limits
I am 100% in favor of term limits. The re-election rate in this country and the results we get for it, say it all.

QUOTE (elgonzo4sox @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 09:43 AM) The Twinkies have discovered that champagne, when left undrunk, turns into whine. Meanwhile, we Sox fans know that fried twinkies go great with champagne! Great post! Welcome to Soxtalk

Jenks...and 99 mph?????!?!?!
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 07:46 AM) Gun at the stadium showed Jenks at 96 and 97 a few times, and someone said it flashed 98 but I didn't see it. So I don't think TBS' gun was hot by more than a couple clicks, tops. Jenks was just hyped up in a big way. I didn't see 98 either. 97 was the top speed I saw.

Post your questions for Sergio Miranda
Do you pay attention to the action at the big league level? What are your plans for this off season? Where do you see yourself in the Sox system at this time next year?

AND THATS A CENTRAL DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!!
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 08:41 AM) I saw you jump up for a foul ball too, from my seats in 155. That game was awesome. Just awesome. Danks' start, Jenks' close, Griffey, AJ, Thome... just wow. The Griffey/Aj homeplate play was the difference maker, IMO. The celebration after was fun too. Not sure if someone pointed this out yet, but, think about this... in 2005, the Sox didn't have a single clinching moment IN CHICAGO - they clinched the division in DET, the ALDS in BOS, the ALCS at LAA, and the WS at HOU. So this was something we hadn't seen in Chicago in a long time. GO SOX! Yeah the ball was three rows up... but I figured if Gomez could run back on the Thome HR, I could make a play on that one The celebration was legendary. Just incredible. A moment that will stick with me forever.

AND THATS A CENTRAL DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!!
What an incredible experience. As I said yesterday I absolutely lucked into tickets in sec 145 in the front row behind the tarp. Every aspect of the game was played well by the Sox. Danks had an answer for everyone all night. I don't remember seeing it mentioned yet, but the hit and run double play in the first inning was so huge in settling Johnny down and making him feel like he could make his pitches, because the D would carry him. The Mauer bunt was a huge favor, and a by product of the Dome being their home stadium. In our park it dies. In their park it rolls down the line for a basehit. The Griffey throw was something Anderson doesn't make, because he isn't nearly as accurate. I don't know how the hell AJ held onto that ball, but it set the ballpark into a frenzy. We were all convinced the offense would go crazy after that because the energy was unmatched. I don't know WTF Gomez even turned around for on the Thome HR. He would have needed a Go-Go-Gadget arm to get that one. You knew when it left his bat that you needed to find your tape measure for it How about Ozzie leaving Danks not only to start the eighth inning, but also to leave him in AFTER a runner got on? Wow. The Anderson catch to end it was legendary. Griffey doesn't come close to it. Again, Ozzie with his guys in the right place at the right time. And how about Bobby's pitching? He was geeked up something fierce. He was only hitting 97 on the gun in the park gun, so I think the 99/100 was a little exagerated, but still, he was unhittable. After the game, we had Jim Thome standing on the tarp in front of us and gving the champagne spray, as was Juan Uribe. We also had Jermaine come over and celebrate with us too. What a night! Clinching at home rules!!!!
