$700 Billion Bailout
QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 10:08 AM) You made the initial claim, not me. So if you aren't making any claims, why are you arguing? Its the same old arguement. You challenge something I say with another opinion. I go dig up stuff to back my opinion. You nitpick with more questions. I post more stuff, and then you nitpick more. If you want to challenge me to "prove" something, I would love to see you "prove" something for once, with something other than asking more questions.

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 09:58 AM) That is such a bulls*** argument. Of course it is. Its also a BS arguement that somehow Bidens' gaffe's get more attention than anything Palin does.

$700 Billion Bailout
QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 10:00 AM) So your argument is that Dems were completely in support of subprime mortgages WAY long ago (not that you've shown this to be true, of course), then were opposed to it in the early-2000s, tried to do something then, but that doesn't matter even though subprime mortgages increased from about 3% to about 13% over that period? Is that about what you're saying? So what exactly have you "shown" to be true?

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 09:18 AM) I am 99% sure Aliu can't play at Rockford this season, and about 80% sure Beach can't either. Didn't Aliu play a little there last year?

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 09:28 AM) When you say stupid things every day for the last 35 years, people stop noticing as much. Palin's comments don't get the 100 point headline on Drudge though. Honestly and seriously though, I think there may be a perception difference between the tickets that might account for that. Biden is the experience guy here, and the line from the Obama campaign has always been that Obama wanted a substantive running mate who can have respectful disagreements with. Palin is seen as the Stepford candidate, and when your campaign is using phrases like "learning at the foot of the master," to describe her - it makes her comments seem a bit more outrageous. And the other reason why I think the media has turned on McCain/Palin? And I think they have by the way, has to do with access. Outside of those carefully planned and detailed few interviews Palin has given, she has not had one single media avail, and has not taken one reporter's question on the campaign trail. McCain hasn't taken a single question from any non-local reporter in over five weeks either. If you don't acknowledge or talk to the press, I'd wager they are less likely to give you the benefit of the doubt. As long as the media outlets aren't crossing the Obama campaign anyway...

$700 Billion Bailout
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 09:45 AM) The same people who got the subprime mortgages and loans balked after their arms started adjusting and they saw their 20%+ car loans, userous payday loans etc. They started complaining to their elected officials who tried to do something after the fact. And as for the line about McCain and the Dems, go back and read the Economy thread. I posted an article about this a couple/few days ago.

$700 Billion Bailout
QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 09:28 AM) No, not pedantic at all. There were Dems at the state and local levels passing actual laws, which were preempted by Republicans at the federal level. Gramlich at the Fed, calling for actual regulation. You make the claim that everybody was rah-rah about subprime mortgages, but there were people pushing against them -- all Dems, as far as I can tell. If the Dems were as happy as Repubs about subprime mortgages, why were those state and local laws passed? As for McCain, he did favor some increased regulation for Fannie and Freddie. If you mean that, then blaming Dems is weak. S.190 died in a GOP committee in a GOP Senate (no filibuster). Oxley, a Republican, has explicitly blamed the WH for the failure of the House legislation. If you mean that McCain tried to regulate subprime mortgage lenders but got "shot down by Dems", please provide the details. The same people who got the subprime mortgages and loans balked after their arms started adjusting and they saw their 20%+ car loans, userous payday loans etc. They started complaining to their elected officials who tried to do something after the fact.

5th Grader Suspended for Anti-Obama Shirt
QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 09:35 AM) tinker v. ohio, wasn't that where the girl wore the black armband protesting the Vietnam war. and so then the school kicked her out, Supreme Court ruled in favor of her. But perhaps, black is less disruptive, than say, an anti obama ribbon if it has writing on it. Not sure what the deal is here. I'll be honest, I am not familiar with the case. I am going more off of what I know from my local school system, and how the rules are introduced and inforced.

The Economy, stupid
So I wonder if today we get the "RECORD DOWN DAYS FOR CRUDE OIL" headlines?

Limbaugh: Obama's An Arab
So they didn't take the next step and make a commerical out of this linking Rush to McCain even though they hate each other? I am so disappointed.

5th Grader Suspended for Anti-Obama Shirt
QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 09:22 AM) Well, technically, if the kid wanted to wear an anti-obama ribbon and not make any scene about it, he could do that no? From a technical standpoint, probably not. Schools can ban all of that stuff as "disruptive". If someone caught him, he would still be in violation of their dress code, if they included ribbons in it.

2008 General Election Discussion Thread
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 09:17 AM) Biden would be smart to avoid attacking Palin at all costs during their debate. Let her dig her own grave. Reading some of Biden's choice comments, he is too busy digging his own grave to dig anyone else's.

Basically it boils down to that kids have no rights in a public school setting. They have very little freedom of speech in a school setting.

$700 Billion Bailout
QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 08:37 AM) There certainly was opposition to these mortgages. The administration preempted local and state efforts (made largely in Democratic strongholds) to regulate them. And there were a couple early critics who suggested federal regulation. But the only ones I know of were Democrats. If you mean that some Democrats cheered them on, fine. I imagine there were some. But to say that this was a general position held by Dems is just wrong. Seriously that is pedantic. In that case you can't use "local" and "state" efforts, nor the term "administration" because some probably opposed it. Initially it was sold by many as a chance to end the centuries of racism in the USA and give the poor and minorities more chances to have mortgages from people who usually wouldn't make risky loans. The oppositions came more later on than early on. Then again John McCain was one of the people trying to pass more regulations and getting shot down by Dems, as I posted the other day.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 08:21 AM) Um... guys... um, you're on the same team? Joltin Joe did the samething on the bailout. Seriously, why isn't this guy getting the same level of scurtiny that Palin has? The guy is out there saying something stupid on a regular basis.

$700 Billion Bailout
QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 08:19 AM) I'd like to see examples of Democrats trying to "sell" these sorts of mortgage arrangements. Who, what "changes", and over whose opposition? There was no opposition. The Repubs got deregulation, the Dems got minority/poor home ownership. It was "win-win".

Ozzie : 1 Reality: 2
We have, in no particular order, Jenks, Thornton, Dotel, MacDougal, and Linebrink for late inning relief, not to mention Clayton Richard as a wild card. I just don't see a situation where we Ozzie would use Ramiez and Logan if the game was within less than 5 runs.

Single Game Playoff Tickets
QUOTE (watchtower41 @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 08:07 AM) They probably won't send them out until later tonight, and you'll get an email either way if you won in the lottery for a chance to buy tickets, or if declined. I got a declined email from the Cubs yesterday evening (they were supposed to send their results out yesterday) Great idea for those who did the Tampa lottery, I totally didn't even think about that. That would be great if they sent them out either way. It will at least let you know where you stand.

Sounds like the Rays already sent theirs out and my fiancee got an e-mail this morning from the Cubs. (Yes, she's a Cubs fan). I was just wondering the samething myself. I have no golden email

Ozzie : 1 Reality: 2
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 22, 2008 -> 10:19 PM) Common knowledge that the Sox are a bad team? No matter what happens in Minnie they were not a bad team this year. This was a Jackyll-Hyde team, skitzo, but not a bad team. p.s. Please Ozzie, do not pitch Boone or Ramirez this series. If you do put them on the mound, it means we lose that game. The only way you see those guys on the mound is if we are getting our asses kicked.
