  1. QUOTE (vandy125 @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 11:39 AM) I really don't see it as being much different from a batter who sticks his elbow out on purpose to get hit by a pitch. That happens all the time, and I don't think I've ever seen an ump not award 1st base. or the neighborhood play, or the interference play at 2B.
  2. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 11:51 AM) Actually, I wouldnt mind doing the opposite. Bring up Owens now and Crede on Sept 1st. That takes advantage of the loophole in the playoff roster rule. Also, it gives us a legit PR and another OF which is important since Griffey is pinch run for or replaced in the field every time he plays. Good thought. It gives us more roster options and agility to our team as it is formed now.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 11:14 AM) And so now our plan to deal with the current threats we face is to drive commodity prices up through the roof so that they have so much money they all bury themselves in gold coins and drown in them, and that's the end of the threats from Iran, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, and Russia? China and India is who we are after right now. We are much more worried about them than any of the first three places on your list, and probably more worried than them versus Russia as well.
  4. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 10:45 AM) It accelerated it, but didn't lead to it. That was already happening and Reagan knew it. He just capitalized. It probably would've happened on its own though, they couldn't wean themselves off the centrally planned economy they had. The moves they made by flooding the commodities markets finished off the USSR. They took away their only flow of hard currency. If commodities prices didn't bottom out during the 80's, the Soviet Union would be here today. If just being a bad form of government was enough, China would have gone away a long time ago. Same with trying to manage too much area under one empire.
  5. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 10:54 AM) Yeah... I mean if you're serious about politics (and if you're a lifelong Democrat who is registered and is a loyal supporter of a prominent Democrat, I think that qualifies) I just can't understand how spite could be that strong unless you're just uneducated, ignorant, or otherwise don't care. I think some of those 26% will stop and think about what they're doing, and realize they are voting the exact opposite views of the candidate they supposedly support so strongly. I can understand abstaining from voting (or even better, writing in for Clinton), but don't vote AGAINST what you and your candidate believe in. That is like me getting pissed off at Jesse Jackson for saying he wants to cut Obama's nuts off and then declaring I'm going to a KKK rally next week. Its why I couldn't ever see myself voting for a Democratic President. No matter what I think of the person, they still stand for just about everything I don't believe in. In the end of the game, I want the person in the Oval Office who I most closely identify with, even if they aren't my ideal candidate.

  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 10:07 AM) Ronald Reagan says hi. Except Reagan actually had some real good policies behind his talk, which led to the bankrupting of the Soviet Union. Somehow I don't see Obama having that ability.
  8. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 10:18 AM) Hillary's supporters are really starting to piss me off... one of the reasons I can't be a registered Democrat. I just saw the stat on MCNBC that 26% of her voters aren't going to support Obama. That is CRAZY. Especially since they are basically the same candidate when it comes to issues. 11% of them are planning on voting for McCain. Wow.
  9. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 10:16 AM) You are going to lose an awful lot of extra money by doing that if he stays healthy from now through 2009. You lose an awful lot of money if years of his career are wasted by shoulder surgery.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 05:06 PM) Yay free markets! And even double-yay! And an even bigger yeah for government to the rescue!!!
  11. I wouldn't. With all of the health issues, I wait until at least after next year.
  12. QUOTE (SpringfieldFan @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 08:22 AM) Okay, it has to be asked. Who impressed your more at the time they happened: Bolt at these olympics or Michael Johnson in 1996? SFF Wow. That is a tough one. I give it to Johnson by a nose because I consider the 400 tougher than the 100. As for their impacts and total domination, I don't know that you could give one guy a leg up over the other. As a matter of a fact, I compared Bolt's domination to Johnson when his races happened.
  13. I don't believe the Billy Goat has gotten a mention yet either... Gotta have that double/triple cheeseburger. Also underrated is their Ribeye sandwich on Mondays.
  14. So I must have officially hit middle age, because I have started to cut back a little bit. I figured out that I have been averaging about 1000 calories a day in just fluids, mostly Coke. I have been making a real effort to cut that number back. So far, so good. I am not looking to do much, maybe 20 pounds tops.
  15. Well said The interesting thing is not only will Chicago feel the wave, but even the suburbs. It will be a hugely good thing for the entire Chicago Metropolitian area.
  16. House and Bones ought to be good. I am also really looking forward to Pushing Daisy's. It is such a great show.
  17. Happy Belated
  18. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 10:17 PM) This Bolt dude is ridiculous. Here's a question for you all- who were/are you more impressed by, Phelps or Bolt? Bolt by a mile. The margins he won by are just unheard of.
  19. QUOTE (SpringfieldFan @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 07:33 AM) I would say more of a salvaged night after those baton drops. The commentators ripped the US coaching/mgmt up and down after that. Right before I was telling my wife whomever is coaching the team needs to get their act together in the next four years. It used to be an automatic two or three medals in any of the sprint races in the past. Granted the rise of teams like Jamaica has closed that gap but dropping batons, stepping on lane lines, etc. as often as we have seen seems more than just bad luck. I would have never guessed we would lead the medal race with the drop in track and swimming success. Not that the olympics should be about medal counts, but the US is fortunate now that Russia and China are now splitting the medal haul in the artsy-judgy type events. SFF To top it off, the mens handoff was just horrible. The runner coming in tried to hand over the top, while the guy about to go had his hand open for a under hand-off. They weren't even on the same page. You practice that a million times, I am not quite sure how THAT type of gaffe happens.
  20. QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 02:50 AM) Another question .... can Chicago match or out do Beijing? They spent 40 billion dollars on the games. We won't try to. It will be a different kind of games.
  21. QUOTE (YahtzeeSox @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 04:19 PM) You know who else doesn't give a flying f*** what the world community thinks? The USA. Hey, let's let Georgia invade South Ossetia and destroy hospitals, kill civilians, shoot at the press, etc. Hey, let's go put some missile defense systems in Poland. Hey, let's go "liberate" Iraq. hey, let's force 'democracy' on sovereign nations around the world. The only place the USA isn't being held accountable for these actions is in... hmmm... the USA... lazy Americans sit by while George "I Wish I Was a Dictator" Bush runs rampant around the world with his globalist views... Ooooohhh, that's strong. And everyone wonders why the rest of the world hates us. Yeah, because why would countries have anything to fear from Russia, right?
  22. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 09:18 PM) That will only be a prize when we're in that position and the season is over, but it is a lot better than 2nd. When all of the experts predicted 4th place, and everyone here agreed with them, being in first place in the end of August is a prize. Its a helluva lot better than 99.9% of people thought we would do.
  23. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 09:36 PM) Do I need to? Everyone knows AJ stuck his arm out to try to initiate something, anything, to turn that situation around. He knew what he was doing, and got the benefit of a missed call on it. If you can't see that from watching the replay, I really can't help you. It's amazing how blindly biased some people can be towards the Sox, it really is. Just because he initiates contact, doesn't make it the wrong call. The fielder still is in the baseline, giving the baserunner the chance to make contact with him. If there is rule that states the baserunner can't initiate contact, I'd love to see it.
  24. AJ is something else. There might not be a smarter baseball player in the city of Chicago. The guy is always thinking on his feet. Love him or hate him, the guy has a baseball IQ that rivals none.
  25. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Aug 23, 2008 -> 02:59 AM) HAHA, YES! He's still there. You can always spot the out of towners when they're walking by and have to stop and look at the asian guy yelling. Nitetrain, you seriously consider that McDonalds a good lunch spot? The only benefit to that one, opposed to any other within the downtown area, is your food is about guaranteed fresh because of all the workers. Aside from that, the prices are ridiculous and I'm positive it keeps increasing everytime I go in. What's the name of the restaurant/bar that's located in the main hall? I've been there a few times and like their food Snuggery.
