  1. QUOTE (RME JICO @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 10:30 AM) I fear this: Twins 93-69 DIV Red Sox 93-69 WC White Sox 92-70 1GB However, the Twins are starting to show signs of slowing down (lost 3 straight) and they still have a bunch left on a long road trip. If we are about 3 games up after their road trip, we will be in a pretty good spot. For us, the 3 game set at Boston this weekend and the last 3 game set at Minnesota seem to be the make or break series for us. Boston has a ton of injury issues (Beckett, Drew, Lowell, Wakefield), which might allow the WC to come out of the Central. I believe if we get into the playoffs, we have a great shot to make it out of the AL. Our 4-man rotation, 3-4-5 batters, and Closer are hard to beat. We have GOT to get Linebrink back soon, or find ANYONE in the pen who can give us a 6th and/or 7th inning.
  2. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 09:31 AM) He seemed to me to be a solid candidate who just came across as a slimeball, and turned me off. To me, compromising your morals for votes is pretty slimeballish. Either he did when he was Gov, or he did while he was running for Pres.
  3. Just to clarify, I wasn't saying go game by game, just how the last 31 games would end up. For example, here is what I fear... Twins 93-69 White Sox 92-70 1GB
  4. White Sox stand at 75-56 now a game ahead of the Twins at 74-57. My question is this, how do YOU think the season will end? Pick the records and the standings of the two teams.
  5. Except I don't think Williams really looked at TCQ as a 4th OFer. I think everyone else made that assumption. Listening to him talk about Quentin, I think Williams saw a damned good RF.
  6. QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 09:19 PM) BTW, I am a lover, not a fighter. But he's also a fighter, so don't get any ideas...
  7. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 08:35 AM) What exactly didn't you like about Romney? I wasn't active on here back then. He is one of those guys who became "conserative" over night. He was fairly centrist when he was the governor of a liberal NE state, but when he wanted to go national he sold all of that out. I hate that. It was the same problem I had with John Edwards, except he went the other way on the scale. Its too bad, because Mitt't economic and financial credentials are second to none in the field, but his lack of spine is also second only to Edwards.
  8. Happy Birthday Santo
  9. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 09:33 PM) Seriously? I thought his speech was awful. It was full of every conservative's stereotypical/ shallow/ dumb criticisms of liberals. It was so over the top and corny. Then again, maybe that would have won the nomination... I agree with you. He came off like a pouty brat in his concession. Actually it reminds me a lot of Hillary's concession. They both sounded resentful that they had to do it.
  10. QUOTE (longshot7 @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 05:39 PM) Most Americans favor Universal Health Care - so does Obama. Most Americans want to get out of Iraq asap - so does Obama and McCain Most Americans want Social Security to be fixed - so does Obama and McCain Most Americans want Bin Laden to be caught - so does Obama. Who the hell doesn't??? You can't be serious. Most Americans want a higher tax rate for millionaires - so does Obama. Most Americans want the new energy alternatives explored - so does Obama and McCain Most Americans want some forms of gun control - so does Obama and McCain etc etc etc. Seems pretty Centrist to me. The problem is the Right doesn't want what most Americans want - they want what a select few want. And that's not democracy. There are like two things here that McCain hasn't also talked about. This is one of the most loaded posts I have seen a while. Most Americans want to pay less in taxes- so does McCain Most Americans believe government is too big- so does McCain Most Americans don't want 9-11 to happen again- so does McCain Most Americans want babies not to have their lollipops taken- so does McCain Most Americans want puppies to be safe from kicking- so does McCain Can you now see how easy and meaningless a post like that is?
  11. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 05:03 PM) 2-3 years from now, Carlos might deservedly crack the top 3. He is, as steve mentioned earlier, a f***ing beast. If he keeps up the combination of the quiet/reserved approach and the huge numbers, there is no doubt he will be near the top. So far I love the kid, but like I said, I didn't vote for anyone in their first year here.
  12. Richard really pitched with some poise for a rookie who had some really bad defense behind him. It isn't too hard to imagine a scenario where he gets out of the 4th inning with no runs given up, especially if it involves Anderson or even Swisher in CF playing defense. He didn't seem to let it bother him and still gutted it out and pitched through 6 innings. I have no doubt that other guys on this staff wouldn't have made it out of the 4th. BTW congrats to Big Jim for passing Jimmie Foxx, and being only one HR away from 14th and the legendary Mickey Mantle.
  13. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 10:39 PM) I could see Russell getting a shot. That's who is going to be the middle inning guy at the very least. Broadway and Russell are going to have to do some heavy lifting today if Floyd can't get it done.
  14. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 02:00 PM) Anyone have a McCain VP prediction? Sadly Mitt Romney makes the most sense. He would be the only one of the 4 who has real life economic experience. I am not sure who it will be. Like I said before, I wish he would get Alan Greenspan to run with him.
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 01:56 PM) So Getz at 2B? Most likely Uribe at 2B, Crede at 3B, and save Getz in case the game goes on for multiple innings and we need a PR/PH, or defensive substitute.
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 01:22 PM) let me re-create a day on soxtalk: ahb2008: I can't believe this RNC would do this this is childish and stupid responder : oh well you do it all the time how are you complaining blah blah Clearly the difference is one is talking about a political party or media organization or political player with huge audiences and scopes, and one writes on a message board. It doesn't say much for the person who is making the posts while critisizing the exact samething. I think that is the point.
  17. Otherwise we would lose him for the rest of that game.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 12:18 PM) I don't think Crede's rehab assignment can stretch to Sept. 1. He would probably have to take a roster spot before then. It can be 30 days, correct?
  19. QUOTE (vandy125 @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 11:39 AM) I really don't see it as being much different from a batter who sticks his elbow out on purpose to get hit by a pitch. That happens all the time, and I don't think I've ever seen an ump not award 1st base. or the neighborhood play, or the interference play at 2B.
  20. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 11:51 AM) Actually, I wouldnt mind doing the opposite. Bring up Owens now and Crede on Sept 1st. That takes advantage of the loophole in the playoff roster rule. Also, it gives us a legit PR and another OF which is important since Griffey is pinch run for or replaced in the field every time he plays. Good thought. It gives us more roster options and agility to our team as it is formed now.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 11:14 AM) And so now our plan to deal with the current threats we face is to drive commodity prices up through the roof so that they have so much money they all bury themselves in gold coins and drown in them, and that's the end of the threats from Iran, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, and Russia? China and India is who we are after right now. We are much more worried about them than any of the first three places on your list, and probably more worried than them versus Russia as well.
  22. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 10:45 AM) It accelerated it, but didn't lead to it. That was already happening and Reagan knew it. He just capitalized. It probably would've happened on its own though, they couldn't wean themselves off the centrally planned economy they had. The moves they made by flooding the commodities markets finished off the USSR. They took away their only flow of hard currency. If commodities prices didn't bottom out during the 80's, the Soviet Union would be here today. If just being a bad form of government was enough, China would have gone away a long time ago. Same with trying to manage too much area under one empire.
  23. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 10:54 AM) Yeah... I mean if you're serious about politics (and if you're a lifelong Democrat who is registered and is a loyal supporter of a prominent Democrat, I think that qualifies) I just can't understand how spite could be that strong unless you're just uneducated, ignorant, or otherwise don't care. I think some of those 26% will stop and think about what they're doing, and realize they are voting the exact opposite views of the candidate they supposedly support so strongly. I can understand abstaining from voting (or even better, writing in for Clinton), but don't vote AGAINST what you and your candidate believe in. That is like me getting pissed off at Jesse Jackson for saying he wants to cut Obama's nuts off and then declaring I'm going to a KKK rally next week. Its why I couldn't ever see myself voting for a Democratic President. No matter what I think of the person, they still stand for just about everything I don't believe in. In the end of the game, I want the person in the Oval Office who I most closely identify with, even if they aren't my ideal candidate.
