  2. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 07:49 AM) "this game is over before it starts" "I have already chalked this up as a loss" "The Sox have no chance against a knuckleballer" "We will be tied with the Twins at the end of the day" did I miss any? THIS.TEAM.IS.DEAD.
  3. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 07:47 AM) Boston will really be up a creek if Beckett cant pitch down the stretch. they are saying he is experiencing numbness in his pitching hand Wow, that would REALLY open things up for the AL Central to put two teams in the playoffs.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 03:50 PM) Mark pitched pretty bad last night and we still won. Keep the faith. Throw out the stupid play in the 1st inning that Mark had no control over, and his numbers look a whole lot better.
  5. QUOTE (tommy @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 03:01 PM) Face value? Where do I sign up? ^^^
  6. After watching the Richard start last night, he definately has a higher ceiling than Broadway. Broadway seems to be a better "pitcher" at this point, but Richard has the ability to miss bats. It will be interesting to see their progress. Clayton has to work on his consistancy if he wants to stay a starter, but he could be a nasty set up guy with his arm slot, his delivery, and his variation of pitches. Broadway looks like he could be a pitch to contact Paul Byrd type of pitcher at the high end.
  7. QUOTE (TLAK @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 07:13 AM) Just looked at gameday and you're right, he got several pitches up there. I'm surpised, watching him live without seeing the gun, even his best ones didn't look that hard, very deceptive. Very effective. Between the delivery and the fact he can drop the fastball down to the 87-88 range without a change in his delivery, its has to be tough to expect him to get it up there pushing 95mph. If I hadn't have seen the velocity numbers on TV, I wouldn't have believed it either.
  8. If you think about it, whatelse is Ozzie going to say? He HAS to show faith in Uribe, because he is the guy who is HERE and who has been doing a damned good job playing 3B in Crede's extended absence. He doesn't even know if he is going to be getting back Crede, let alone THE Joe Crede. Uribe has to be his man right now for the rest of the season, unless Joe proves otherwise.
  9. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 08:11 PM) Did you all see where all the blather about anyone besides Clinton is all a smokescreen to get Clinton on the ticket? Since 25% of Clinton supporters are all pissed off and that's the only way to unify the party is to have her on the ticket, it's all hush hush until Thursday night - SPRINGGGGGG! Clinton it is! This is also supported by the notion that Obama has lost the backing of some Democrats according to national polls. I guess this was floated by Ralph Nader. BRING IT ON! Seriously, I hope that's not true. The sound you heard would be that of the Democrats self-distructing. Its been interesting to watch exactly how helpless Obama's camp has been in dealing with a defeated Clinton camp. He whipped her, and he STILL can't put her to rest. She is still holding influence over every step of the process, including forcing her way into the convention and being put on the ballot there. It is amazing. I wonder what the backroom dynamic is that won't allow them to get rid of the Clintons?
  10. So they re-ran the roast last night, and it really wasn't nearly as good as years past. Cloris Leachman was BY FAR the funniest person on there. There were some funny moments, but not nearly as good as some of the past ones. Mostly they just didn't have very good roasters. It was the lamest collection yet. Go back and look who has been there in the past, its not even close. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comedy_Central_Roast
  11. QUOTE (TLAK @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 09:24 PM) Just in from the game. I can't put my finger on who Richard reminds me of. He's got more stuff than Hibbard, less than Bahnsen...Lots of heart and a triple A fast ball....Sirotka? After the goof on Icharo in the first I thought we were in for a long night. But the kid pitched better than I ever supposed he would. One night doesn't make a career but he showed me somthin tonight. How many guys in AAA have a fastball that hits 94-95? I think that was the most impressive thing the kid has, is the ability to add and subtract from his pitches already. We need to get him sitting next to Mark Buehrle on a regular basis to teach him about controling nerves and emotions during a game, but other than that, this kid has some moxie. He doesn't really seem afraid out there.
  12. Great game. If you would have told me the final would be 5-0 tonight, I would have said at least Richard didn't do too bad...
  13. Richard was great tonight. You couldn't have asked for anything more from him. Everytime he got into a jam, he had the pitch to get out of it. His first couple of starts he had great innings, he just fell apart at the end. He looks like he is gaining confidence.

  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 11:29 AM) IN THE MINORS. You have to put that caveat in when you make statements like that. In their very short MLB careers, Broadway has been the better starter. The two of them have 5 starts between them at the major league level. Their stats are pretty close to worthless at this point of their major league careers because of the sample size.
  16. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 10:58 AM) Really? What's lunch cost and whadaya get? I get the half chicken meal which comes with a side (mashed potatos for me), bread, and a drink for $7.75. You can also get sauce on the side.
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 11:08 AM) Why is Clayton Richard starting tonight? I'm not saying he's done or anything, but he sure didn't look ready during his last callup. Then we called up Broadway who had quite a nice start against the Royals and was immediately sent back down. I feel like we should stick with Lance who showed us some good things, rather than going back to Clayton so quickly. Does anyone else find this one odd? They can't start Broadway tonight because he hasn't been down for 10 days. They wanted Richard because with Thornton hurt, and a bunch of nobody's on the front end of the pen, plus all of the innings they have thrown lately, they wanted another long arm just in case someone went flat, like had been happening a lot lately in the rotation. The Sox felt the pen arm was more important at the moment.

  19. Get there early, especially if there is a big crowd at the game.
  20. QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 10:15 PM) OK...I say we bring this one out in the open in regards to the brain fart in the 1st. I've had a discussion with another member via PMs...but yet in a condescending manner was told I'm a complete idiot. The play...ground ball back to Mark. OC converging on 2nd with Lexi as well. Technically I think OC has the better shot but pulls up for some reason from my view. I understand there needed to be communication there before the play started as to who's covering...but Mark did what he's supposed to do and throws at the base since it seemed both were getting there (and a great throw too btw). But to say he threw to the wrong guy?!?! Anybody else want to chime in and not sound like a condescending @#$%...... They showed a view of the play behind homeplate and it looked like Cabrera held up his mitt quickly, as if to tell Mark and Alexei that he had the throw. It must not have been intentional because then he pulled up as if he expected Alexei to take the throw. Who should take the throw depends on baserunners and who is hitting. From the sounds of it it should have been Ramirez throw, but I am guessing Alexei deferred to Cabrera because of the brief holding up of the glove. I didn't hear the post game show for an official comment, but that is how I saw it.
  21. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 08:34 PM) After both games today: G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO AVG OBP SLG OPS Hamilton 121 486 80 146 28 3 28 114 50 94 .300 .365 .543 .908 Quentin 119 440 89 129 22 1 35 96 56 75 .293 .395 .586 .981 Hamilton has really gone into a second half swoon. Post all-star break he is hitting .279 with 7 homers and 19 RBI in 104 ABs. Compare that to Carlos who is .347 with 12 homers and 25 RBI in 98 ABs. His post ASB OPS is 1.238 compared to .913 for Hamilton. With the brutal Texas summer sapping the Rangers, and Kinsler being out, expect Hamiltons numbers to keep sliding.
