  1. QUOTE (quickman @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 08:40 PM) so the real question if you believe its development, is why have we not changed that piece? Buddy Bell steps in, but he should be cleaning house, and the sox should be buying some better talented people. The Yankees are constantly drafting low, same with the red sox but they seem to be bringing up players who contribute. It starts with KW and it goes from there. They all need to be on the same page. They both are spending millions outside of the country to sign people that aren't in the MLB draft, so that sort of skews the numbers.
  2. Sounds like he knew what he was up here for, and how long it was going to be for.
  3. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 04:45 PM) I didn't say he couldn't have an opinion I was just asking what he was going by, If he's seen some scouting reports which completely take apart Danks' game and show why he'll never amount to anything, or if he's been watching him all year and knows his game well then fair enough, but if he's just pulling stuff out of his arse then it was really a pretty pointless statement. There's a difference between an informed opinion on a subject and a pure guess. If he has any detailed information, I'd hope he would share it with the rest of the class.
  4. What kind of schedule does Danks look to be on? Should he move through the system pretty quickly?
  5. Definately couldn't have asked for much more from Broadway today. It really validates Kenny and Ozzie's decision to start him and save Carrasco as the main RHP middle reliever.
  6. So with a day to go, the highest unsigned pick that we have is our 10th rounder. Really the only real impact signing we missed out on was Long. All in all not a bad draft at all. It will be fun to see these guys move through the system.

  8. QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 11:35 AM) Kenny and his subordinates have deemed that Poreda isn't ready. If that's really the case, I'd rather keep him in the minors. There have been multiple references to Poreda himself also saying he isn't ready.
  9. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 10:54 AM) But the RSO campaign would portray him a man of conviction - stands for what he believes in, regardless So they would potray him as George W Bush. Oh the irony.
  10. QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 10:47 AM) When is the next WSI - ST softball game I take it you are coming up next year
  11. QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 10:41 AM) But that doesn't change the fact that he allowed those runners (inherited or not) to cross the plate and took us out of those games. Dotel obviously has a lot of value to this team, but he's sure given up a lot of bombs and leads this year. I hope that Linebrink comes back soon. It still makes it one bad outing, especially when put up against his body of work, it is a blip on the radar for this season.
  12. QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 10:18 AM) Yeah, he's been surprisingly good overall. He also put up a 3.72 ERA in July. From here on out, though, it's a question of whether you're going to get the dominant April/May Dotel or the mediocre June/July version who blew several big games. Given his track record, you'll have to excuse me for wondering whether or not the other shoe is going to drop down the stretch. ERA is so badly misleading when it comes to a reliever, especially when looking at shortterm splits. Half of the July ERA is due to one swing of the bat.
  13. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 09:58 AM) "Fake" Play-By-Play: New York-Based Crews Just Call It as They See It Why not. It seems like everything else has been faked and cheated, why not the observations too?
  14. Why all of the hate on Dotel? He has put up spectacular numbers this year and has been a rock in some huge games. he has gave up a few games, but in general, the guy has been worth every penny of his salary and more.
  15. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 09:37 AM) Yeah. We face 3 lefties in Oakland, why can't AJ rest one of those days? A day game after a night game, and right before a long flight to Oakland is not a bad time to rest a catcher who plays everyday.

  17. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 07:51 AM) Edgar Renteria anyone? http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic.../808130396/1004 I wonder what Cabrera woudl think of that?
  18. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 08:45 AM) That would be a blockbuster pick, he'd probably surprise a lot of people. Powell would fill in a lot of the gaps of Obama's weaknesses, assuming he'd accept. Powell is one of the few associated with the Bush administration (along with maybe Condi, and Gates) that a majority of people think positively of. It would also be one of the few real life examples of Obama reaching out across the aisle.
  19. QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 08:04 AM) Brandon Allen is the new Chris Carter. Carter 2007 / Age 20 Season / Low-A .291 / .383 / .522 ... 112K 67 BB in 126 games Allen 2008 / Age 22 Season / High-A / AA .278 / .374 / .546 ... 106 K 56 BB in 114 games Almost eerie the lines they've put up. Kannapolis is a tougher hitter's league than Winston-Salem, but it's balanced out by the tougher High-A pitching. Age is a bit of a wash since they were both born in 1986. Allen has slightly more pop but has slightly less contact (I mean, slightly). Carter 2008 has put up similar numbers to Carter 2007, but has done so in a very good hitter's league, while Allen has performed fairly well in a pitcher's league. I was bummed about trading Carter at the time (even though I liked getting Quentin, just would have preferred to give up something else), but you'd have to say that Allen is looking like every bit the prospect Carter was. I guess you trade Carter since his stock is higher and since he is a 15th round pick and you believe his production is a bit more than he will be able to sustain. Of course, when you get a potential MVP for him, the trade is a steal for the Sox. Just like Josh Fields, they are going to have to find a way to cut down on the swing a bit.
  20. Here's my thought on what is going on... Richard is getting called up to pitch in case Broadway bombs. Adam Russell is going down to the minors. They don't want to use Carrasco in the long relief role and effectively lose him as if he were starting anyway. We'll see what really happens.
  21. My hero zero. He was definately my favorite player of that era. I know he was on my list, but I can't remember where.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 10:22 PM) Santo was on his last legs when he was on the Sox That's just wrong...
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 08:46 PM) Seriously. Stop there. That was one of the couple places (The others being Jimmy Johns and the Taste) that I made sure to stop at when I was back in NWI for my wedding last year. ^^^ It is definately worth the stop. We eat there at least 4-5 times a summer.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 02:55 PM) If you're looking for a cheeseburger, screw the rest of them, do the drive to New Buffalo MI and go to Redamak's. Done Fatburger, In & Out, Carls Jr., etc. Haven't yet hit the place that is anywhere close to them. Redamaks is good, but it isn't that good. If you want to get into local joints, there are plenty of better places in Chicago.
  25. To anyone who has been paying attention for the last year, this isn't a surprise at all. He has been making rumblings like this for a long time.
