Filibuster Catch-All
QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 07:25 AM) They would matter if they'd squeeze Mugabe and his cronies. If food shortages, political witchhunts, and one million percent inflation haven't done that, I don't know what will. I think this election was Zimbabwe's last good chance for a while. I think they are pretty much stuck until the guy dies now.

Sicko
QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jun 29, 2008 -> 08:04 PM) I'm always skeptical of Moore, but I enjoyed watching this movie for the first time last night. I have health insurance but the premium is really high. Just like a lot of Americans, my first thought of getting injured is "how much is this going to cost me?" I'm not going to whine for 35 hour work weeks or government paid employees to do my laundry, but it would be nice to have the health protection like the citizens in the other countries that were in this movie. What would it take to get it a system like France's in place? French tax rates?

Name a VP and Vett
QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 10:45 PM) no he didn't at all. but Obama decided he'd rather "save face" than to have his surrogate's back. spineless. He has pretty much everytime in this election cycle... think how many people have "resigned" from his campaigns during the primaries already.

Filibuster Catch-All
QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Jun 29, 2008 -> 10:55 AM) Official results in Zimbabwe's "election" (man, they were sure able to get a vote count quickly this time!): http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080629/ap_on_re_af/zimbabwe I read something recently suggesting that Mugabe would have to give Tsvangirai enough votes to make the election look credible, and I really didn't understand why he'd even bother. Apparently he didn't see the need, either. He was "sworn" in shortly after the "results" were announced. The US is preparing sanctions, but they will likely not have much of an effect, since China and South Africa are unlikely to go along with it. And I was wrong about Thabo Mbeki. He's not merely a coward, he's scum, as well. Sanctions aren't going to matter because there is no economy there left to destroy. They took care of that years ago...

All Things Probama
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 04:45 PM) Neither of those things have happened. And McCain hasn't questioned Obama's patriotism either. This is all garbage. Exactly.

All Things Probama
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 04:43 PM) It is ok to question Cindy McCain's connections since McCain is using her jet and if Republicans can call for John Kerry to release all his military records, it's more than fair to call out John McCain to do the same since he is indeed running on his military background as proof he is ready to lead this country. Did you know John McCain crashed 5 airplanes in his military career and finished 5th from the bottom of his graduating class? I think the American people would find that interesting. I love how stuff that means nothing is the method at which we find our President, and that is what people want to talk about.

All Things Probama
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 11:47 AM) John MCCain was just flat out asked "Do you think Sen. Obama is patriotic". McCain sidestepped the question saying Obama's family story is a great story. And many American's are proud of him" hmm.... never really answered the question. Yet no one asks Obama why it is OK to attack McCains wife and war record...

Soxtalk Softball Part II
QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 11:06 AM) Southsider, since this will be my first softball game, where will it be taking place? Also, how many people are going to the game after? 2pm, at the park directly north of the B parking lot north of the ball park. For the second part, I have no idea how many people are taking in the game.

For GOP only
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 01:35 PM) my bad. It wasnt intended to reply THAT particular comment. That was a lapse in judgement. I was looking for the most recent comment on race in the race. It was poor judgement on my part. Gotcha. That's cool.

For GOP only
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 01:09 PM) didnt say all. no one has EVER said all would. But some will. Then why answer the original post about representing the whole party with a post about someone being racist ? That is exactly what it looks like you are trying to do there. At best it is more lowest common denominator politics.

For GOP only
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 12:59 PM) how is that not racist? He basically said "hey, he's John Kerry, but black" He does NOT need to inject race. Make a stand on how you think they are alike, just dont go "hey, he's the same, just blacker" So all we have to do is find one Democrat making fun of McCains age, and we can assume all Democrats hate old people. Awesome.

Soxtalk General Election Poll #1
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 10:40 AM) We wouldn't have the problems we have today because the country wouldn't exist as we know it. The country would have fallen apart before the turn of the 19th century.

The Economy, stupid
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 08:39 AM) But there's one problem with that, and its a key difference between the US economy now and the US economy then. There is simply a lot less manufacturing going on here now. Therefore, there is a lot less bandwidth in terms of production increases for export. So I think that's limited. Yet again, this tells me we need to get to the forefront on renewable energy and start exporting those technologies. Being an information soceity, we are a lot less vulnerable to commodity price shocks than we were even a generation ago. Places that are huge net exporters to us are going to get killed in this current enviornment, because of the lower dollar. They are also getting murdered on the capitol end of things with the record commodity prices. The big red flag to me was China raising fuel prices dispite the riots and problems going on there. The government is having big problems fiscally, i would bet on it.

The Economy, stupid
QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 08:05 AM) And seriously hurting ours in the process, no? Yes, and no. We have a much more resiliant middle and lower class, which can absorb this much better. Its pure conjecture on my part, but we did this to the Soviet Union in the early 80's (it was one of the things Reagan was most proud of when interviewed later) and Japan in the late 80's. Plus we had to do this to keep the economy from completely falling apart mentally. We basically are exporting our way out of the recession. I said 6 months ago we would never seen an official recession because of that, and it seems like that is coming together.

The Economy, stupid
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 07:44 AM) I'd expect a lot of the crap we import from China to start shifting back to US manufactured goods. Transportation costs are soaring. Its all a part of the master plan... We are taking down China's economy, and we are all witnesses to it.

Handgun ban shotdown
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 02:06 PM) Tell that to the neighbor of the VA Tech gunman. All of those scenarios involve one common thread. A person who wants to kill people. Banning guns isn't going to stop people who want to really kill people. It takes that person to pull the trigger, just like it takes a person to pull the switch on his suicide vest, a person to administer the lethal injection, the person to administer the aborotion etc. All of the scenarios are the same type of things you are talking about.

Handgun ban shotdown
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 01:34 PM) But the 2nd amendment empowers you as an individual to have the ability to easily kill people. The guy in the next cubicle could be completely sane and law-abiding. He can have a terrible week where his wife leaves him, he loses his job and decides to come to work and shoot up the office and kill me as he's doing it. The other things you mentioned do not provide American citizens an easy way to kill me. Abortion doesn't provide an easy way to kill a baby? There are a lot of people who really believe that. One of the first lines in the declaration of Independence guarentees LIFE, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The lack of a wiretap could allow terrorists to plan to attack American's at will, without fear of being spied on.

Handgun ban shotdown
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 01:28 PM) I can't think of any other amendment that can directly get me killed. Abortion and the death penalty come to mind. Terrorism could also kill you.
