  1. there is no need to raise SS taxes. It was proven during the primaries that simply changing the indexing of increases from wage inflation to general inflation would make the system completely solvent for at least the next 75 years. Why give the government more money, when they simply don't need it?

  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 11:06 AM) AJ is certainly due for a game off. Anderson of course will probably be in the lineup too, because he's hitting .270 against righties and .150 against lefties, so he has to start against lefties because he's right handed. I would guess that AJ sits for game three, that way he gets the rest before the plane trip home, and the day game against the Cubs.
  5. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 10:58 AM) You really aren't this dumb, are you? Joe Crede has a long history of back problems, in fact it could be debated back problems are the only reason Joe isn't an even better player today. I am not saying to trade Joe either. Fields is hurt, plus Joe is a better play right now, and in addition, we have crossed the Rubicon with trading Joe as he is here until the season is over and then he is going to leave, that's the way it is. You make some strange posts, but this is right up there. Don't take what I said out of context or anything. No more insults.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 11:48 AM) The key thing to me is that I want a situation where no politician ever has to hold a fundraiser or deal with a lobbyist again (although they still will because they're too lazy to write their own bills). That's the thing I'm hoping for, and I think that can still be done. You don't exactly see Senator Obama or McCain holding fundraisers for Moveon.org or the NRA do you? They may speak to audiences from those communities but they are barred from coordination with them. I don't believe that actually happens for a second, from either party.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 11:41 AM) As far as I can tell, there's nothing unconstitutional about having the government pay for the entire campaign of anyone who wants them to. The thing that is unconstitutional is preventing other people from spending money through outside groups if they choose to (Although it can be regulated). In other words, you can't stop a candidate from opting out or from self financing, and if your system breaks, as it is now, that becomes a reasonable maneuver, but the fact that you can't stop outside groups from spending their money doesn't mean that we can't take steps to prevent those groups from using their money to get direct access to the politicians themselves. Then you will never have a legitimate public campaign system. The two things aren't compatible.
  8. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 11:34 AM) Exactly. Personally I don't agree with dollar vote equaling free speech, but that is the way the Supreme Court has ruled for a long time now, and I don't see how they can change that.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 11:01 AM) Until we build a legitimate public campaign financing system (1 week in Iraq would finance every Federal election in the country for this year), then this is how it's going to be. Or at least one that is constitutional...
  10. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 10:22 AM) We know why, we don't have to spell it out, do we? And, it's pathetic. I really hope that isn't it, but in reality, there was probably just as many people affected, and just as much devistation and monetary damages once you figure the crop losses to go along with the buildings, houses, and the like.
  11. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 10:07 AM) goddamnit i see those pictures and yet everyone nation wide has already forgotten that this even happened. where's our aid from the gov't? where's the public outcry to donate to Iowa? why the f*** doesn't anyone give a s***? The media charged everyone up over Katrina, and abandoned the story in Iowa. Its pretty amazing.
  12. QUOTE (YASNY @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 09:21 AM) Yes, I think he should be there. I agree. When you look at his numbers within his era, its hard to say no to him.
  13. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 11:22 PM) With the investment of Silvero and Beckham at SS they are not going to give Cabrera the money and years he will want. ' If he is reasonable, Kenny will re-sign Cabrera. He usually errs on the side of proven major leaguers.
  14. Is Fields still hurt? If so what is his status in detail? If Fields is still out and unavailable, who would move to third on a starting basis? Uribe? Ozuna?

  16. QUOTE (the People's Champ @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 01:53 PM) nice how the buddies get fair warnings me I just get banned thats cool though Actually you both had gotten warnings... one chose to listen.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 19, 2008 -> 10:50 AM) Quite frankly, whether we drill everything under the sun or not, we're basically in the same boat. The fact is the U.S. is trying to use 25% of the world's oil and it has only 4% or less of the world's supplies if you count up everything regardless of how much it costs to drill it. That's the simplest level at which the math fails for us. Drill all you want, and it maybe buys you another year once Saudi Arabia's decline sets in come a few years from now. If you drilled everything, you might be pulling in 2-3 million additional barrels of oil per day 20 years from now. The odds are, frankly, that the total U.S. and world production from other wells will have declined by more than that. Drilling everything is a play for time, and it's not a play for very much time at that. http://kudlow.nationalreview.com/post/?q=N...TU4NTFmYzU4OGY=
  18. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 10:31 AM) McCain got caught in a Flip-Flop... FLASHBACK: McCain Declared Osama Bin Laden Threats Are Very Helpful To Bushs Campaign Then (2004)- U.S. Sen. John McCain, campaigning in southwestern Connecticut on Saturday, said Osama bin Ladens video message to Americans will likely energize President Bushs re-election campaign. I think its very helpful to President Bush,...It focuses Americas attention on the war on terrorism. Im not sure if it was intentional or not, but I think it does have an effect. Now (June 23, 2008)- A McCain adviser said about another terrorist attack on American soil Certainly it would be a big advantage to him. McCain responded, I strenuously disagree. http://campaignspot.nationalreview.com/pos...jQyNjVmMGFkMjI=

  20. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 11:23 AM) It's not his fault he gets taken out after 6 innings every freakin time. And thank God for Ozzie Guillen and Don Cooper, because I sure as hell don't want them pulling a Dusty Baker on this kid. I know the whole 85 pitch thing from Friday has many people cheesed, but looking into the big picture, we are already talking about a guy that completely collapsed last year because he had never worked as many innings as he did then. The Sox have to guard his innings for a couple of years to work him into the 200-220 IP range that they like their guys in. Its akin to being a guy who can run a 5k, and then sticking them out there for the marathon. They might be able to go somewhat past that 5k mark, but eventually they are going to hit the wall and not finish. Danks is so young, he has yet to be conditioned for the marathon that is a 162 game 220 IP season. Unless you are a fan of ruining young kids arms, you should be happy the Sox are being smart with this kid, dispite the temptation to do otherwise.
  21. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0608/11289.html http://www.politico.com/homeloans/ After the Dodd and Conrad influence-peddling, Politico went and asked each of the Senators about their mortgages and how they were obtained. Not much was admitted, but some interesting numbers came out none the less. 23 senators have refused to answer the survey, while 28 more are saying they have no mortgages.
  22. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 10:28 AM) I wonder if Bob the bat will get some royalties from the BKE? He should, he was funnier than you ever were

  24. QUOTE (juddling @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 10:15 AM) I remember back in the day, filling out the ASCAP logs for every song we played. It was only once or twice a year for a two week stretch each time. I thought it was for royalities..... ASCAP (per Wikipedia) Thats the impressino I was under as well...
