  1. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 19, 2008 -> 10:04 AM) oh you opened the gates now buddy... Here's the problem Mr. McCain.... YOU opted in then out of public financing to get you through the primaries?? hmmm.... at least Obama never actually opted in. He said he would CONSIDER it. You have done NOTHING to show you would work in good faith if they both took public financing. You have not tried to stop the Republican 527 groups. You are all but begging the Republican attack dogs to be let loose, while Obama has heavily urged his supporters to NOT support 527 attack groups. Did I mention McCain's "informal" (aka McCain doesnt want this guy linked to him, but he wants his help) adviser Karl Rove runs a 527? hmmm.... OH YOU CAUGHT HIM MCCAIN! He Flip-Flopped! Want to see the 27 times YOU flip-flopped on issues? I promise it'll hurt far worse than this hurts obama! This from MSNBC: But according to Obama spokesman Bill Burton, the Illinois senator never sat down with McCain. "In the past couple of weeks, our campaign counsels met and it was immediately clear that McCain's campaign had no interest in the possibility of an agreement. When asked about the RNC's months of raising and spending for the general election, McCain's campaign could only offer its expectation that the Obama campaign would probably, sooner or later, catch up," Burton said in an email to First Read. "And shortly thereafter, Senator McCain signaled to the 527s that they were free to run wild, without objection." The key line.... "McCain's campaign had no interest in the possibility of an agreement.... And shortly thereafter, Senator McCain signaled to the 527s that they were free to run wild, without objection." I have said my peace. McCain isnt exactly on the more high ground on this issue. Want me to show you the video of him saying he would fight the 527s? Only to now say they can run wild? But McCain is worserz!!!! That post was exactly what I wanted and expected to see. No one cares that Obama is lying right to their faces, and doing it repeatedly, AND getting defending for doing it. It is just amazing.
  2. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 09:30 PM) A number of revelations have come out of the Senate investigation, and unfortunately the MSM is not going to pick up any of them. As damning as the evidence of a premeditated strategy to hide worked over detainees from the Red Cross should be, so too should the uncovering of the fact that torture was a top-down strategy and not the work of a couple of bad apple enlistees as the Pentagon wanted the public to believe. But none of this will get any significant media play and at the end of the day it won't matter. Because America is better than its enemies (except that it isn't), and America doesn't torture (except that it does). The damage this administration has done to our standing in the world is going to take 20 years to undo. Tim Russert had some feelings on that... http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1213751874...in_commentaries

  6. The Sox are now tied for 7th in the AL in team batting average and 15th in all of MLB at .261, or in the exact middle of the pack now, up from their low water mark of .228. As a team they are leading all of baseball with a 3.34 TEAM era.
  7. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 18, 2008 -> 07:23 PM) Rule changes: http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news?slug=txru...t&type=lgns Agree with all of them, though they should just go to no touch icing already. It's clear why the made the rule change, so why not just take it one step further? It's really not an exciting play in hockey, only a dangerous one. I agree on no touch icing too. There is no point in the play and it slows down the game.
  8. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 19, 2008 -> 08:14 AM) Its parents everywhere. My son is in the 3-4 year old soccer program through Downers Grove Park district. At the end of every quarter program they have a Kids versus Parents soccer game. The parents get what it is, and have a lot of fun with it. The minute you get the ball, make sure the ball gets passed to one of the kids. Its all about the kids. Except for some super soccer parent who has decided that putting a beating on the kids is the only way to teach them the life long lessons of how to take defeat. He steals the ball from a 3 year old, then takes a shot that caroms off of another 3 year old who of course falls down and cries. He then runs in and scores all proud of himself. A couple of the fathers pull him to the side and ask him what is his problem. He tells us, well you cant let the kids believe that this is a game, that they should play to win. I told him be happy that the kids are playing, dont do anything to destroy their interest in the game. Father of the year is lucky he didn't get lynched. I already realize that I will have to coach my sons baseball down the road. I have witnessed too many a coach who puts the 10 year old pitcher through the ringer. They have the 10 year old throwing breaking pitches, working too much, and allow bad mechanics. Lets make sure that we win the 10 year old league title because that is more important than the kids arm. Kids shouldnt throw breaking pitches until 14 or older. I don't want some superdad screwing my kid up, ruining him or his love of the game. The most important thing in these kids games is to teach the basics, make sure that they are having fun. I am a firm believer in everyone plays as well. You see too much competitive baseball in little league where they bench the kid after the minimum because the league title is more important. There is plenty of time for competitive cutthroat baseball down the road. I know this has become the cliche in the everyone wins generation, but at the youngest ages, winning does not matter. When you are in the under 7/8 years old range, the things you need out of sports are super basic. Learn the game. Learn to work with other kids. Learn to work with and respect authority figures. Exercise. Have fun. Winning and how you play doesn't matter at all at that age. You don't need to learn "competitive" sports until you are in the late grade school range. Then you can start to learn it as a lesson for life.
  9. QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 19, 2008 -> 08:09 AM) When has shoulder discomfort as an initial complaint from a Cubs pitcher not been something serious?Iam sure they will fool themselves into believing its not that serious of an injury for the next 5-8 weeks while Zambrano sits. They are getting him an MRI.
  10. QUOTE (BDavisFutureHOF @ Jun 19, 2008 -> 08:09 AM) Jerry Manuel's a GANGSTA! http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball...p_david_wr.html Its those quiet ones you have to watch out for
  11. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 18, 2008 -> 04:53 PM) The thing is, too, that the kids have not given me a single problem so far. I've had a catcher yell "nice pitch" on close pitches before when I call a ball and he thinks its a strike, but nothing more than that. 99% of the time, it isn't the kids. The kids almost always have more sense and manners than the parents do. I ref'd peewee basketball for about 5/6 years, and it wasn't even close.

  13. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 16, 2008 -> 02:30 PM) I should make it clear that I am not against the president saying we should invest heavily in many options to se what works best. That is obviously important to do. The problem is there is little to no leadership on this. After thinking about this for a couple of days let me put this into perspective that will resonate with you. Do you want republicians making energy policy, and therefore transportation policy indirectly? Somehow I doubt it. Each administration is subject to its own beliefs, feelings, and donors on each issue. In my point of view the less things we have our government deciding on, with those changing whims in mind, the better. Between the lines what you are saying is that you believe it is OK for the government to exert a heavy fist on transportation policy as long as it is what I agree with. If Barack Obama did a 180 and said "Let's drill everything we can for oil!!!", your tune would change on that "heavy fist". I really doubt you agreed with the last eight years of transportation policy. In general the less involved government is, the better. The private sector makes these decesions way more clearly, quickly, consitantly, and accurately.

  15. This is the tandem Kenny envisioned when he signed Toby. It is nice to see them both contributing to the W's.
  16. Buehrle's ERA has gone from 5.81 to 4.29 over his last six starts.
  17. Dempster as the starter? Give me Contreras, Danks, or Floyd. I definately take Soto at C and Cabrera at SS as well.
  18. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jun 18, 2008 -> 04:16 PM) The MSM owes them a lot of press to clear their names. The NY Times and such has basically tried and convicted them as mass murderers in the media. The Trib had the story as a two paragraph mention on page 11.

We have 11 yes's so far. We could use double that, just in case people have to cancel at the last minute for whatever reason. Trust me, the time is worth it. Everyone who did it last year is trying to do it again this year.
  23. Also, if anyone new wants to sign up, this is still open to any and all people! Even if we have a bunch of people, everyone will play some, and we will definately have FUN!
