Trade deadline
QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Jun 18, 2008 -> 12:28 PM) I would not mind having Alexei roam the field, virtually playing every day but in different spots. He seems really versatile and does not have the superstar mentality where he needs to play in one spot only. I would love to see him rotate between CF, 2B and SS the rest of the year. Meanwhile, Swisher, Dye, Konerko and Thome could rotate between RF, DH, and 1B. Versus lefties you have Konerko at 1B, Swish in RF, and Dye DH. Versus righties, you have Swish at 1B, Dye in RF, and Thome at DH. Your bench is much stronger with some combination of Alexei, Ozuna, Anderson, Durham and Konerko/Thome available and sets up tougher decisions for the opposing managers late in games. Your defense is probably better since with Durham added to the lineup you can play Anderson more in CF, especially versus lefties and not worry about the offensive dropoff too much. I know many will say you can't pay for all that power to sit on the bench, but with their age and injuries, it might be best for Konerko and Thome (and Dye for that matter) to stay fresh and be ready for more playing time come September/October. That is almost exactly how I envisioned it. The kid could play almost everyday without having a starting position.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 18, 2008 -> 12:10 PM) Fields just has some raw power, but Ramirez and Quentin are true baseball players. I agree. It has been a lonely place, but I really look at Josh Fields as a poor man's Adam Dunn.

When We Left Earth
NASA's budget has been gutted. They have been reduced to buying parts for the shuttles off of ebay. There really isn't much more to say.

Reed Johnson
QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 18, 2008 -> 09:24 AM) it just seems like a dumb call. They were trying to catch them asleep. I didn't see the play, but it sounds like Longoria made an awesome play just to get the out.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 06:37 PM) I agree. I liked his desired end state a lot, but his "in the meantime" was completely unrealistic and borderline absurd. The America we know would be unrecognizable. And I don't know if it's just him campaigning or what, but this doesn't seem to be the John McCain I knew even just a couple years ago. Just like when Bush campaigned as a centrist and everyone knew better, I am hoping McCain campaigning as a conservative is the same deal. I really don't think deep down this is who he really is, just like I don't think Obama is who he is campaigning as. Regardless, for my 2 cents, a conservative McCain is still better than the alternative. He has never been my first choice, but still the other option scares me.

Reed Johnson
QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 18, 2008 -> 09:05 AM) You really think the bench would call for a bunt base hit in a 3-2 ballgame with 2 outs? More than I think Johnson would call it on his own and not be benched for the next two months.

starting pitcher 09 Clayton Richard??
QUOTE (SoxPride56 @ Jun 18, 2008 -> 08:45 AM) You reminded me of something I wanted to ask a few weeks ago... if we make a trade what would it be for? You can never have enough pitching, so maybe that? A leadoff hitter? LEadoff hitter for sure. Most likely a second baseman, with Ramirez becoming a supersub.

Reed Johnson
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 10:55 PM) Looked like a bad night for Reed on the highlights I just saw. He was caught trying to steal 3rd with two outs in a very close, low scoring game to end an inning. Then, he inexplicably tried to bunt with runners on 1st and 3rd, 2 outs in a 3-2 game. Not shocking with Reed's lack of speed, he was thrown out to end the game. It was a tough play, as was the throw to get him at 3rd, but that's double dumb baseball right there. No way he made either of those plays on his own. Those are both called in the dugout, I would almost guarentee you.

Bill Bavasi Fired
QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 18, 2008 -> 08:00 AM) Bavasi has some comments about Erik Bedard while walking out the door: Damn. Sounds like a guy who knows that deal was the cherry on top that got him fired.

Do higher gas prices mean more price volatility and gouging??
QUOTE (joeynach @ Jun 18, 2008 -> 02:31 AM) Gasoline subsidies from the Gov't, like in China and Russia, suck balls. They dont expose the citizens of those countries to the real economically derived price of gasoline. Therefore they inflate demand due to the cheaper prices the civilian pays underneath his government subsidized price. This on a small scale, a country here, a country there, should do nothing to global prices and/or supply and demand. However, since China and Russia represent about 1/5 of the worlds population their subsidized price and non-exposure to supply/demand economics has in essence screwed up the price for everyone else. Its like squeezing on a balloon, shrinking one end while inflating the other. When prices rise demand should fall back, and vice versa. So in Russia and China as prices rise, demand does not fall back, it can actually increase. Shrinking supplies for everyone else and screwing up the demand/supply balance for the world market. Not to mention China's massive rise in middle class wealth and demand for oil. So basically since we play by the rules of economics (innate to capitalistic societies), we get screwed by China and Russia's subsidized gas BS. I guess this proves we should produce our own gas and not rely as much on global market and imports. Strike another victory to those that want to open up the entire North Alaskan slope for oil drilling or dig out Mountains in Colorado for oil shale. China's economy can't sustain what it is doing. The money they take in is dollars. They are also a net commodity importer to make their economy go, and a net food importer, both of which are at record prices. On top of that their subsidy based government is putting out way more money now with the increases in the prices of everything. China's economy is going to take a Soviet Union or Japan in the late 80's type tumble. Mark my words.

I think either one of Richard and Broadway could be deadline deal trade bait... Kenny smells blood in the water and wants to win this. I really expect a deal to be done here by the 4th of July.

Sox have most to gain in City Series
QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 04:28 PM) "At just about any point during the previous 11 seasons, the White Sox-Cubs interleague series were a fun diversion for fans and not much more. But this year? Everything is different. With both teams leading their divisions -- and they're guaranteed to be in first come Game 1 on Friday -- the games have taken on new meaning." I'm pretty sure both teams were in 1st at least one other year going into the series. Am I wrong? I don't think we were in first place this late last year...

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 03:33 PM) I used to feel the same way, but now I look at it from a practical standpoint - if a politician based a campaign off complete and total honesty, and told the American public what they needed to hear instead of what they wanted to hear, and having broken ranks too far from their party to boot, there is no way they get elected. It sucks but that's reality. Sure you might have the occasional apparent exception to the rule like Ron Paul, which is refreshing, but... well, where's Paul now? I do respect Ron Paul for what he is. I don't respect the fact that it isn't the 18th century anymore, and he doesn't get that. I like a lot of his concepts as goals to move towards, ie smaller government, smaller taxes, less government regulation and meddling etc. He would just collapse our entire republic if he did it at the speed he wanted to. In a weird sort of way, I would have preferred him to this John McCain.
