QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 04:29 PM) The Turkey Place is Jaffa Cafe I believe. I eat around that area every day, Venice Cafe is a nice place if you like cheap and big portions. They also have some good calzones, slices of pizza. A lot of people eat Baccino's pizza (on Clinton). My Thai in presidential towers is supposed to be good. And always The Market in Presidential Towers, for like $6 they have the executive meal which is a sandwich, soup, and drink. Jaffa Cafe is it! Thank you. Baccino's deep dish was very underrated. We used to get it a lot when I worked at 550 west Jackson. 4 of us would split one, and be plenty full. Then of course if you are in that area, Lou Mitchell's is a legendary breakfast spot on Jackson, but you also pay for it. Union Station is also over there, which has a very cool Cajun Chinese place that is very different. The Bourbon Chicken is solid.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 03:19 PM) i was watching CNN ( i think it was CNN) yesterday and they had a group of Obama voters in a focus group and they asked if anyone could name any of Obama's major accomplishments. no one said anything. it was kind of funny. then some lady was like "he's just so well spoken". You could ask the same question of Hillary backers, and get the exact same blank stare.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 02:28 PM) The phrase "death spiral" comes to mind. I think the GOP race may be virtually over after today. McCain looks like he will be winning pretty big, and Huckabee seems to be more in McCain's camp as well. I prefer the term "Circling the drain", but that is just me. The quicker the Repubs get rid of this phoney, the better off they will be in the general election.

Ron Paul Feb 1 Money Bomb!
QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 12:39 PM) At least he has brought back into the conversation the idea of a smaller government instead of what we've been getting for decades. And I will say that he is the one guy I actually believe when he gets up and says this stuff. The other candidates I mostly just laugh at.

Ron Paul Feb 1 Money Bomb!
QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 11:24 AM) his ideas are interesting. the problem is no one took him seriously because he would go off the wall when asked a question and his supporters are BEYOND annoying. If he had come in and looked and acted like someone who should be president, he might have got more respect. His ideas taken in moderation are helpful. If they were all put into reality, our economy would literally collapse. I have no problem with the pendulum swinging back towards his way of thinking, just not all of the way there.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 11:31 AM) Good stuff. Usually, I am around Congress/Michigan for class, but I need to get back to Ogilve every day, so I usually cut back over to Madison on State, then take Madison back to Canal. Usually I have a bunch of time to kill, and have just ended up eating in the train station. I need some better food. My fav place at Ogilve is the chinese place in the far back corner, past Great Steak and Potato and Popeyes... They do a great terriaki chicken and rice. Another great thing to get there is the little place on the same side, but further up that does fresh turkey subs. It is like thanksgiving day turkey, and not the premade lunchmeat crap. I can't remember the name of the place off of the top of my head right now, but is to the east of the popeyes, and to the west of the newsstand over there.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 08:19 AM) What blocks is CU on? I'll get you pointed in the right direction Oh what the heck, I am hungry, so here we go My personal favorite is Mike's Chicken on Clark St just south of the CBOT. Their chicken fingers, fry basket and sauce is to die for, and it is relatively cheap for a downtown lunch. Two doors down from their is a place called Coco's which specializes in soul food. My god is the place incredible. I recommend calling in early and getting the specials and trying those. Chicken Planet is on Jackson between Plymouth Ct and State St and you can order grilled chicken right off of the grill. Great food, pretty cheap as well. My favorite burgers are between the Billy Goat or Gold Coast depending on what mood I am in. Gold Coast does an incredible bacon double cheeseburger, with melted liquid cheddar cheese instead of sliced. It is messy, but sooooo good. Another great thing about Gold Coast is that they serve up great polishes and brats. Billy Goat is a great cheeseburger as well. They do specials on Tuesday for single CBs, Thursday for doubles, and Friday for triples. Another great Billy Goat treat is their ribeye steak sandwich special on Monday. Well that is a good start anyway. Let me know if you want to hear more, or if you are interested in breakfast.

Scratch Santorium. I had no idea how much bad blood there was between McCain and Santorium. They have had some legendary throwdowns.

Snow Day!!!
QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Feb 4, 2008 -> 09:01 PM) I wonder if the storm that is expected for tomorrow really will drop 6" of snow on us. The projections I heard this morning are upto a foot to the north and west, 3-6 inches to the south.

GOP Primaries/Candidates thread
So if McCain does cruise to an expected victory in Super Tuesday, he pretty much puts away Mitt Romney, and it is time to start thinking about VP candidates. Its obvious he has to find a right wing religious guy to balance him out. The rumor has been Mike Huckabee, and that might be a good fit if Obama was the Dem's nominee. That would cut into his strength in the south and religious areas. I got to thinking though, if it is Hillary, might you see McCain go to someone like Rick Santorium of PA, who get cut into Hill's strength in the NE?

White Sox Will Wear Camo Jerseys in '08
While it doesn't bother me as much as some, I don't think the jersey is worth much. Personally I think letting troops into games for free (if they do still do that) is a nicer gesture. I also agree that if they really wanted to do something, they could donate a portion of sales of these uni's to places like the VA hospitals, or for families that have lost family members to war, etc.

Bobby Knight resigns as Texas Tech Head Coach
Bobby is an interesting character. On one hand you have to admire and respect the effort he put not only into basketball, but turning his boys into men. You never, ever heard about scandals or problems from ANY of his players, even after they left his programs. On the other hand, his methods left something to be desired. Either way he leaves as one of the all-time greats.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 4, 2008 -> 03:00 PM) Yeah, I'm kind of surprised actually. I thought, with his experiences in the Clinton White House, that there was only one way he wouldn't almost immediately endorse Clinton - if someone offered him a better opportunity. But, if that was the case, why hasn't he endorsed someone else? I guess maybe he is waiting for a better offer. Richardson is hugely popular in NM too, so he could pretty much hand that state to someone. To me that is pretty telling, and has been kept pretty quiet so far. Two people who had MAJOR positions in the first Clinton administration have refused to come out and endorse Hillary Clinton in Al Gore and Bill Richardson. Their lack of endorsements says everything that needs to be said to me.

Is it too soon?
QUOTE(heirdog @ Feb 4, 2008 -> 02:29 PM) I think he was challenging batters early on (and in spring training) by throwing strikes early in the count. With that, you will give up the homers but he was effective in that a lot of them were solo shots. He tried to be too finesse after the ASB and tried to nip corners, etc. and he fell behind a lot. Then he was forced to challenge batters with hitter's counts and when that happens, you struggle. Yes, he might have been fatigued but I think the bigger change in the performance pre and post ASB was his approach early in counts...throwing strikes vs. falling behind. It makes sense to me that if Danks problem was in fact fatugue, that he became afraid to challege hitters early in the count, because he was afraid of his stuff at that point. Instead he was just trying to beat people with the perfect pitch, which usually leads to 3-2 counts and walks.

GOP Primaries/Candidates thread
Another interesting thought for the day... With Obama and Clinton seemingly locked into a 50-50 battle with no end in sight, could the big cash advantage that both of them have over McCain be nullified by a protracted and expensive battle for the Democratic nomination? McCain has the potential with a big super Tuesday to all but bury Mitt Romney. He might not be able to clinch, but he could put a big enough lead up to make it futile for Mitt to keep up the expensive fight. If McCain can obtain early victory he can seemingly sit on the sidelines waiting for the bloodied and well spent Democratic opponent to emerge.
