  1. This might be one of the oddest things I have seen before, a candidate potentially pushing polling against himself? http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=Y2ZkM...ThmYjJmM2ZmOGE=
  2. So I made the big effort and watched Fred Thompson get interviewed with George Stephanapolis, and it was pretty interesting. I can see why America really has a hard time with Thompson. Despite the years of acting, he just doesn't have that shyster polish that we all have come to expect from our politicians. He "ers" and "ahs" a lot, but the most amazing this to me is that he is not afraid to say the words you never hear out of a politicians mouth... "I don't know". Once you actually get past all of that, he is a really facinating candidate. He is the only person, besides Ron Paul, that I have really heard use the term "state's right", which makes me all warm and creamy inside. One exchange that was particularly interesting was abortion and Roe V Wade. Steph asked him about the overturn of the case at the supreme court level. Dispite Thompsons 100% voting record against all things abortion, he still stood for his beliefs and said that he truely felt that this was an issue which should be decided on a state by state basis, and not by the federal government, and not by the supreme court. Maybe it is because most of the time I don't know whether I should be buying a car or what when I hear anyone running for higher office talk, but I really liked listening to Thompson. He sounded so different from anyone else so far, it just blew my mind.
  3. So what is the story if this is true? http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=23467
  4. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 03:48 PM) you should only use Euros, balta. that would teach GW a lesson. Actually, the EU has been trying to get the United States to enact some strategies to raise the value of the dollar. They are getting kinda pissed, they think it gives the US an unfair trade advantage. They want the the Federal Reserve to raise rates. Another factor is that central banks around the world have been diversifying away from dollars, meaning there are more dollars out there in currency markets available to purchase. I thought you liked diversity? Welcome to the rebalancing of the trade deficit.

  7. QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 10:18 AM) You must've been looking too. What can we say he is, as Hawk would say, A "handsome man"
  8. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 10:03 AM) Not a trite question at all, its a fair one. I don't think I know it nearly as well as people on the ground there. Or people who live there. I take my information from them more than I do our government though. So I like to think, at the least, I'm informed. The candidates in the debate, frankly, seemed to be varying degrees of uninformed. I wouldn't call them uninformed at all. ALL of the candidates seem to have varying types of agendas that seem dictate their opinion on the effectiveness of the surge. Obama might be the least tied to his agenda judging by the quotes of his view on its effectiveness, but I digress.
  9. QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 09:44 AM) I find it odd that the leader of another nation should have any say so about our nations immigration policies and discussion of those policies among our candidates. I wonder what Calderon would say if we decided that they could continue sending their poor here, but we were going to send them a bill for it?
  10. Losing Hill and Marmol and only getting Crawford in the deal would be terrible for the Cubs. They don't have the pitching depth to pull of something like that.
  11. Calderon is a racist who only cares about himself. That is the only justification he has for calling out out the safety of one set of people while doing the exact samething to another race of people. He is a hypocrite who doesn't deserve the US to listen to him at all. If he is really worried about his people, he should take the necesary steps to take care of them, instead of encouraging them to risk their lives to solve his problems.
  12. QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 10:44 PM) I'm just glad that we'll never have to hear "There's never been any solid evidence that Bonds used steroids." Well now there is. A positive test is now public record. To me that is the most important part of all of this. Whether or not he can OJ his way out of a conviction doesn't matter to me as much as we now have positive steroid test results on record. We don't have to hear that Barry Bonds never failed a drug test again. Hopefully baseball will really start to take the tough steps to rid the game of this crap.
  13. Kos and Rove are being hired by Newsweek http://blog.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2...es_new_gig.html
  14. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 02:46 PM) And Giuliani falling like a rock: 21% in September, 16% in October, 11% in November. Good. Keep him out of the general election!
  15. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 12:17 PM) While a fair question, it's not that simple, and you know it. I know you don't like hearing about the $$ and how much a player is making/worth, but it's part of the game, now more than ever. You can ask the question, "Which guy makes us better" but there are a few different ways to look at it. -This team has payroll restrictions, simple as that. While Hunter could provide better numbers than Rowand, at what cost is he providing them at? Because the Sox have Hunter instead of Rowand, do the Sox have to trade away another expensive piece to pay for the production Hunter is providing? -What about in 2012? 2013? You don't want to think about it now, but there have been numerous threads about how Jose and his contract are basically unmovable right now, and how he is tying up 10 million that can be used elsewhere. Can you imagine the threads about Hunter and his 15+ million that he is making when he is 36? Is that going to make the team better? It's just not that simple of a question. Great post. Thank you.

  17. QUOTE(chisox2334 @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 10:05 AM) http://www.star-telegram.com/284/story/304298.html Hunter wants 7 yr deal So he would be 39 years old after playing all of that time on the brutal turf in MN? Yeesh. No thanks. Texas can have him, and probably will.
  18. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 09:55 AM) For a certain slice of the Republican base, I'd say it is. That slice may be a bit smaller nowadays, but its still a big chunk. Especially when you consider Guillianis abortion stance, and the fact that Romney has flipped flopped on this issue.
  19. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 09:41 PM) Bloomberg Copper is down 5% today
  20. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 08:50 AM) In Buster's column today, he said an exec. told him to expect Hunter to sign a 6 year $90 million contract with Texas. For that, they can have him. I'll take Aaron for 4/48 versus Torii for 6/90. Hell I'd rather have Owens in CF for 400k than pay Hunter that much for that long.
  21. That interview is a perfect nutshell of why I love Brooks Boyer. He is perfectly honest, and doesn't insult the intelligence of the fans by spewing company line BS. This guy is so incredible, and the Sox are lucky to have him.
  22. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 03:49 PM) A high level Romney Supporter is alleging in the Washington Times that the Thompson campaign paid off the National Right to Life committee in exchange for its endorsement. So do they actually have some proof or is this just slander?
  23. So one of two things is happening here, either ARod really never wanted to leave the Yankees and thought they were bluffing when they said they wouldn't offer him a contract after he opted out, or two, no one is even in the ballpark of $$$ Borass is looking for, so they are putting BS rumors out there to try to fluff up money for ARod. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/base...z.ap/index.html
  24. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 01:45 PM) I just disagree. If the Sox are willing to trade for Cabrera, Id bet my last dollar that they feel that have better than a 75% chance to sign him long term. Otherwise why would you ever trade your whole farm system for a 1 year player? It makes no sense, and it doesnt follow White Sox logic either. Generally if they trade for a player they sign him long term. Exactly. The Sox history is such that they don't go for one year players. They give known dollars for players to ensure stability.
  25. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 01:17 PM) Update on the discussion of the drought in Georgia and the south... Anyone else see this guy? He was using... wait for it... 440,000 gallons of water a month for his residence. That's 14,667 gallons per day, 611 gallons per hour, just over 10 gallons per minute or a gallon for every 7 seconds or so, every second of every day. This is what I was getting at with people lacking an undertanding that natural resources are not unlimited. I mean, is he running two showers 24/7 or something? WTF is this guy doing with all that water? Anyway, good news is, county authorities have dropped the hammer, and this guy now has his consumption down to 121,000 on the last monthly bill - still more than 4,000 gallons per day. Unreal. It never does say if he is paying for all of that usage. As I understand it in Chicago, people don't actually pay for their usage, just the service, so there is no incentive to cut back.
