  1. For those keeping score at home, the Dow was down about 240 today, and has now entered official correction territory.
  2. The baby is beautiful Congrats Jim, Steff and Briana! Now the fun really begins
  3. Its not a matter of "if" its a matter of who they get for Santana. Minnesota has to make a deal during the winter when his value is at its highest. They can' t lose their two biggest franchise stars for nothing in back to back years.
  4. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 09:27 AM) What you said. Positive steps would be supporting large quick increase in CAFE standards. Removing the truck/SUV exemption from them. I love the idea of energy independence, but we need to find a better way to do it, beyond corn subsidies and rhetoric. I am going to go against the flow here, and actually say that CAFE hurts oil independence, and actually makes us more dependant. CAFE actually artifically reduces demand, which keeps prices lower than they should be. By keeping prices lower, it lets people afford more gas than they would have before. It also prevents wilder price shocks which tend to exsaserbate demand movements like we saw in the early 70's. I think CAFE is helpful for the enviornment, but it is not a step towards energy independence.
  5. I would be much more interested in some actual changes in policy versus some hyperbole and rhetoric towards a friendly government.
  6. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 25, 2007 -> 09:13 PM) That's not a forum, that's high tea for liberals. I'd be pretty pissed too. And people wonder where they right gets the idea that college is a left wing haven. Way to fuel the fire...
  7. QUOTE(NUKE @ Nov 25, 2007 -> 09:01 AM) They had a pretty nice turkey dinner set up for us so that was pretty cool. I was also able to get a quick call in to say hi to the folks just before I rolled out that night so it was about all I could have expected. Were you lucky enough to get a hug from that general who was out hugging everyone?
  8. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Nov 25, 2007 -> 01:00 PM) Would anyone in Chicago really have a problem with naming rights to the EL if it meant the thing actually got fixed? Its nice in theory, but the repairs to the mass transit infastructure was pegged a something like $6 billion recently. It wouldn't even make a dent in what is needed.
  9. Like Sisco, Massett, or Aardsma?
  10. I've got no problem with Mack coming back as a bench player. The guy plays a ton of positions and is a nice bat off of the bench.
  11. There is one little problem with this scenario... When was the last time the Sox sent cash in a trade?
  12. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Nov 24, 2007 -> 06:27 PM) Maybe not, but you can put it out there. All we would be doing is setting the market for someone else.
  13. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 24, 2007 -> 04:34 PM) Andruw Jones. They have been after him for years. Well it would fit with the "under the radar", but it wouldn't have not gone public by now. Borass lives on leaks.
  14. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 24, 2007 -> 04:51 PM) I'd be strongly considering this sort of offer if I were the White Sox and I had the money to spend. Boras in terms of Jones sounds like he's clearly on the defensive, rather than on the offensive which is where he wants to be. He's not going out and leaking that "ARod wants 10/$300", he's going out and saying that Jones won't take a 1 year deal. I have no problem with the offer, I just don't think it gets off of the ground.

    Nothing
  16. The interesting part of the Trib today is that KW wasn't given a chance to match Anaheims offer, and according to Kenny, would not have done so anyway.
  17. If he hadn't resigned already, I would have swore he was talking about Alex Rodriguez. Other than that, I would bet he is talking about someone we don't know about. KWs biggest deals usually come out of LF.
  18. Daley wants his Casino. That's all there is to it. That's why he and Stroger came up with the horrible tax and spend plans at the sametime, and its why he is pulling stuff like this out of his ass. He is going to try to shame Blagovich into giving him his casino.
  19. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 23, 2007 -> 03:35 PM) http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7480854...3162&ATT=49 Looks like Reds are going to get the other big name Brewer reliever, for 4/46!!!!! Makes Linebrink look a little better. Wow. that is about 2.5 times what we paid!
  20. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 23, 2007 -> 01:32 PM) That said if he would take the deal they offered Hunter you wouldn't really have to deal with Boras for another 5 years. That is a huge IF, that I don't see happening. I could be wrong, maybe there isn't a market for Jones, but I just don't see it.
  21. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 23, 2007 -> 03:12 PM) Is the Sun-Times too [fill in the blank] to [fill in the blank]? [Cheap] [to hire decent writers]
  22. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 23, 2007 -> 04:31 PM) 3 years. That being said, he'll be eligible for free agency following the 2011 season, there's NO reason to lock him up right now. If you sign him to a 4 or 5 year guaranteed deal you're just incurring a s*** load of risk for no reason. Especially when a guy has a history of substance abuse and a screw in his elbow. You definately gamble on the conservative side when it comes to a contract extension.
  23. Wow, for the family http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?i...e=ESPNHeadlines
  24. Wow, what great work!
  25. QUOTE(iamshack @ Nov 23, 2007 -> 11:57 AM) Agreed. Mariotti is generally a good writer, however, I just don't believe he is a very good columnist in regards to Chicago sports. He has a fundamental misunderstanding about the baseball industry as a whole; while the industry is flush with money, it is not so flush that all teams can operate with the reactionary philosophy he seems to personally hold. Couple that with his ridiculous level of bias against the White Sox as an organization, and his articles are simply vindictive and repetitive rants. I am shocked he continues to be allowed to even cover the White Sox, given how his attitude concerning the current regime eliminates all possibilities of him commenting responsibly or accurately on their state of affairs. You lost me at this point. He is a horrible writer. Facts do not matter to him. He exsists on hyperbole and exaggeration. He often contradicts himself within the same article, if not at other times on the exact same subject. He without a doubt the worst writer in Chicago, bar none.
