World War 3... Here we come!
I don't think they much care what the rest of the world thinks. Think about it from their point of view. The entire world, sans the US, votes against them every chance they get in the UN. They are condemned, attacked, and hated by most of the world. Its not like they are endangering some big base of support here. They don't care what the rest of the world thinks, as they only care about their own survival. If they are attacked with nuclear weapons, do you really think they are going to stop and think about what the rest of the world would say if they answered that attack? They never have in their history, why would they start with the most deadly of attacks? Seriously, at very least, they would launch at nuclear attack at whereever the missile came from. More than likely they would settle old scores and attack anyone who was even thinking of attacking them again.

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Oct 19, 2007 -> 11:42 AM) If you're gonna be pissed off at pandering, be pissed off at everyone. I'm not a Hillary fan. She's honestly my least favorite of the first or second tier candidates right now on the Democratic side. But having seen her in person, I can see the appeal. She's a lot better up close than you'd expect. I guess I missed the part where I am not pissed off at everyone in the field for something or another. The two guys leading the Republician field aren't exactly the Grinch who cut the budgets either. The one difference is that there is a lot more I have in common with those two dopes than anyone else in the Democratic field... well until they all start changing their minds again.

World War 3... Here we come!
I have zero doubts that if anyone exploded a nuclear device in Israel, in anyway, shape, or form, they would do as they have historically done, and respond in spades. To me it is the most obvious part of the equation. Israel has been under attack since they day they were formed. The way they have survived is by taking on all enemies, and doing it with an overwealming show of force. I am convinced that if someone tried playing the trump card of a nuclear bomb on Israel, they would lay all of their cards on the table, and make sure none of their enemies could take advantage of their weakened state. They would respond in kind.

Barry Rozner on ARod / White Sox
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Oct 19, 2007 -> 08:44 AM) The one thing that I don't find makes any sense is how he came up with ARod's signing for $300 million for 10 years would get the Sox back that money 5 fold. How many more tickets can they reasonably sell? How many ARod jerseys can be sold? If paying him that much is such a great deal, how come Tom Hicks has been paying the Yankees to take his contract, which was for less, off his hands? I would love ARod on the White Sox, but financially I don't see where it works out. The whole article had the kind of a feel to me. It was almost like he was just putting something together on the basis of "because". The five-fold number struck me as hyperbole versus anything rooted in substance or research. The article really was not well written.

Barry Rozner on ARod / White Sox
There really isn't much substance in that article. Its kind of disappointing from Rozner. That has more a Kotex-boy feel to it, with a lot of "should"'s and not a lot of real depth. Hopefully he knows something, but it sure didn't seem like it.

World War 3... Here we come!
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 18, 2007 -> 11:17 AM) Here's my problem with his statement: Why exactly would a war with Iran be world war 3? Not every war the U.S. gets in needs to be called that, and Iran is at most a regional power. Would we be expecting China and Russia to get involved? For me it isn't a big leap of faith that if a weapon was launched at Israel, whether it be from Iran, or Iran selling/giving the technology to someone else, that Israel would detect the launch and instantly fire off their entire nuclear cache at Cairo, Tehran, Beirut, Amman, Mecca, and anyone/thing else they could think of. I don't think they would wait around and see if the US got interested to help, Israel has a way of trying to take care of things themselves. Its not hard to envision one nuclear incident causing world war.

Torre turns down Yankees and will not return
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Oct 19, 2007 -> 06:18 AM) Let's see, here's $5 million guaranteed, plus we will have a team with a payroll around $220 million. If you can guide them to the playoffs, here's another $1 million. If you can guide them to the ALCS, we will give you another million, and if you take this team that will be paid almost double every other team except one to the WS we will give you another million plus guarantee you $8 million the next year, so make the WS, here's $16 million for 2 years. By the way, the most anyone else in the world will get paid to do your same job the next 2 years is $7 million total. I'm pretty sure I would take it, but I don't have Torre's bank. Job security for a 67 year old who very well may just retire anyway is laughable. Last I checked, he has no offers, and very much doubt anyone will pay him more than the Yankees offered him in 2008. This was more about pride, and probably not wanting to go through what he has to go through if the Yankees don't win every season. I commend him for turning it down, but as I stated before, the money was pretty good. More guaranteed for 1 season than the White Sox have paid Ozzie Guillen his entire managerial career. The total dollar amount is immaterial. No one goes to one of their employees and offers them a 33% paycut without it be taken as an insult. If they really wanted rid of him, they should have had the balls and fired him. Like I asked in the previous post, what would you say if your boss offered you a 33% paycut and only one year of guarenteed work? Would you take it as a pretty good offer, no matter how much money you were making? Somehow I doubt it.

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Oct 19, 2007 -> 12:20 AM) Except the problem is, election wise, the more people see Hillary on the GOP side, the less they dislike her. I have the opposite problem. The more she plays Santa Claus, the more she pisses me off, though I guess not nearly at as steep of a curve as Edwards does. He has actually passed Hill on my "I'd rather be a Cub fan than vote for..." meter.

QUOTE(Chet Lemon @ Oct 18, 2007 -> 12:01 PM) Brownback probably dropping out of the race. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,303202,00.html Conventional wisdom says that this will benefit Huckabee as he will likely attract most of Brownback's supporters. Eh, I don't think anyone is really going to benefit from a guy who was polling at 1-2% and hadn't even raised a million dollars in this last quarter. All it does get one less stooge at the debates.

For GOP only
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 18, 2007 -> 11:59 AM) I think Tancredo is actually a bit dangerous to you guys as a potential 3rd party running spoiler. Ron Paul is the biggest potential spoiler in the race. He has a couple of hot button issues that he appeals to a lot of people on, plus he has done it in the past.

For GOP only
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 18, 2007 -> 11:20 AM) I wouldn't actually say that's bad news for you folks. Thin out your race a little bit, concentrate the money more, and give you a comptetive candidate in that governor's race. A big part of me would like to see Mr. Richardson consider doing the same thing for the soon-to-be-vacant New Mexico Senate Seat, which he'd win in a landslide if he ran for it (a seat currently held by a Republican). There are a few more of these guys I wouldn't miss if they dropped out either. The herd could definately be culled a bit to streamline the candidates and messages. Guys like Duncan Hunter and Tom Tancreto are just wastes of spaces. It will really be interesting after Iowa when the first big names start to bow out.
