Warren Buffett to donate $37 BILLION to charity
QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 11:05 PM) On the news tonight they showed just what exactly 3 billion dollars a year is capable of doing if used right. It was quite stunning and gave a glimmer of hope to the future. Then they followed it up with a story about some terrorist acts overseas and it really came crashing back to reality. Whilst some wish to just help humanity, there will always be some asshole out to destroy it. They said the $37 billion could feed 350 million people or about 6-7% of the planet for an entire year.

Rude Red Shirt Employees at Sox Games?
QUOTE(Drew @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 03:21 AM) Me too, but people in service positions have s***ty jobs. Especially when dealing with people who think they are owed the world and get attitudes about anything and everything. Many of the stories in this thread are exactly why I would hope to never go back to working in a retail enviornment. Just because you pay for a ticket, doesn't mean you own the park.

Javier Vazquez
QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 03:54 PM) If I'm not right and Javy is still pitching like crap in August and September, I'll be the first to call for a trade. If he is pitching that badly, that late, it is too late. FWIW The non-waiver tradeing deadline is July 31, and with us most likely being one of the best records in baseball, odds are many teams will try to block deals for us, to try to prevent us from repeating.

QUOTE(Finkelstein @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 06:24 PM) If anyone was listening to Mac, Jurko and Harry around 4:30 today you heard Harry talking about his "source" telling him that Kenny is in the process of putting together a deal to bring a former Sox player back to the team. Of course the callers were talking about Rowand, Cameron, etc. but I think that this is probably the deal that Harry was talking about. Sounds like a Kenny move to me. What no Carl Everett, Roberto Alomar jokes? You all are slipping.

Good to see Sean not fall apart after his time here in Chicago. This could be huge for him.

High gas prices.
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 03:04 PM) That much of an uptick, huh? I haven't seen the Nymex boards lately. Is it that ugly? Futures are up about 20 cents in the last week, tack on a little bit of a holiday premium and I think we are looking at somewhere between $3 and 3.10.

Comiskey is so nice now
QUOTE(The Critic @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 12:40 PM) Bingo. Okay, so let me see if I follow - only sit on a green seat that faces the pitcher's mound, no ketchup on the hot dog, no yelling at someone blocking my view, and stay til the end of the game no matter what my schedule, situation or real life dictates. Am I missing anything? DO THE WAVE!!!

Tiger Watch - Official Thread
I am going to throw a big broad warning out there for the visiting fan public and our fans... All are welcome at Soxtalk, however, this is first and foremost a Chicago White Sox fan's message board. Having said that, our first mission of existance is to make a happy home for White Sox fans to come and be with like minded fans. Unlike many dedicated fan boards, we do allow certian fans of other teams to stick around, but we do make them stand up to a higher level than we do ourselves. The reason behind this is because it is one things for Sox fans to have arguements and differences of opinions amoung themselves, and it is another for a fan of an opposing team to come here and offer the same taunts and ego. We like the fact that Tigers fans are here, but if there are problems created because of certian individual fans of other teams, we will not hesitate to ban those posters. Now this has not been a problem mostly as the vast majority of opposing fans who have signed up here are extremely respectful and knowledgible, and have added a lot to the converstation. But also know that if there are problems from opposing fans, there won't be for long. Thanks SS And as always feel free to PM or respond with questions and comments.

Catch-All Anything Thread
One of my wife's students and members of steering committee died in a car crash on Saturday. Her and a girlfriend we driving on a two lane HWY to a soccer camp, the girl driving was on the cellphone to her boyfriend, and while in a series of gentle S-curves faded onto the right shoulder, over corrected and was hit broadside by a mini-van killing the passenger instantly and putting the girl driving into intensive care. There is nothing more tragic than a young life full of potential cut short.

Memo to Jim Thome: Please adjust to Inside Pitch
This is vintage Jim Thome. With his long swing, there are going to be long periods of time where he looks just pathetic at the plate. The trade off is when he gets it going, there aren't many who are scarier, especially with the guys hitting behind him forcing the pitchers to throw the ball near the plate.

Game tying Grand Slams
QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 11:48 AM) Iguchi's, because they were down 9-1 at one point. ^^^ Yeah for me personally the excitement level isn't even comparable. Iguchis was so much more huge than Credes because of the fact we were down 8 runs at one point.

Warren Buffett to donate $37 BILLION to charity
For history buffs, it is interesting to see the group of guys that has been portrayed as the Robber Barons of our generation start to mimic them even more, with many of them giving away huge amounts of wealth as they age, and even becoming socially consious while doing so. I wonder in 100 years if we will see as many places named after Gates and Buffett as we do after Carnangie today?

I saw Cirque in Vegas and hated every second of it. I would have loved to have had my money back and pissed it all away in the slots or something more exciting.

The streak ends...............BUT!!!!
QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 10:25 AM) You mean the one from TA-DA Iguchi? How about the defense from Alex Cin-TRONE? :rolly I can't stand Miller. Why because he actually pronounces the names of the Spanish speaking players correctly? To me its refreshing and sad all at the sametime. It shows he actually does his research on the players and pronounciations.

- Series Preview: White Sox @ Pirates
Series Preview: White Sox @ Pirates By Justin Udany As the last week of interleague play comes along, the White Sox will try to continue their National League dominance as they visit PNC Park for a three-game series against the struggling Pirates. Putting the Ozzie Guillen circus behind them, the Sox continue to play fantastic baseball. The Sox went 5 and 1 on the concluded homestand, including a 20-run beatdown against St. Louis pitching on Tuesday night. With the Sox facing lefties on Wednesday and Thursday, expect to see Jim Thome at first base against Ian Snell on Tuesday. MORE..- 2006 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE(Felix @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 10:16 AM) I think you quoted the wrong quote Bah. Yeah, that was in response to the Montero save question...- Fabio Castro
QUOTE(MnSoxFan @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 09:57 AM) Nope, they could trade him to another team first, if they can not do that and then he clears waivers, we would finally get a chance to take him back for 25K. If he does get traded to someone, they have to keep him on 25 man roster for the season, just as KC and Texas had to do when he was selected from the Sox. Gotcha. Thanks. - Series Preview: White Sox @ Pirates
