  1. I was reading the Trib today and there was this... My challenge to you all is can we help them out at all? Anyone have any good suggestions for the new marketing slogan of 2006? If anything good comes up here, I'll be sure to forward it on to Brooks personally. Personally I like "World Champions" best, but we'll see how that works out first...
  2. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 09:59 AM) Another Teachers strike mayhaps? Its actually forbidden by state law now. I am thinking at least another work to rules action, along with a big media blitz. I think after the Sweeney debacle, they realized they have to take their case to the public instead of trying to negotitate with these idiots. One of the more interesting stats, with as low as City teachers rank in pay, they have 85 administrators, with Harding making $111,500. The next highest school system in total of administrators is Portage with 50, and you know how much bigger they are. Merrillville has 10 admins total. Hmm I wonder where they could cut back some?
  3. QUOTE(the People's Champ @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 10:00 AM) I've heard that also. Aren't fat people supposed to be nice?? No, no, you are thinking of Santa Claus
  4. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 09:52 AM) I was at the hawks game watching with about 100 other fans That's probably about right
  5. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 08:59 AM) Congrats on that committee dealy. How did you score that? The wife mentioned that I wanted to run for school board to the union reps. This contract negotiation is stinking mess. They haven't had a contract in 3 years (or a raise) and they are the 3rd lowest paid teachers in the state. So the administration made one offer of a 1% raise, the teachers turned it down, and the admin declared an impass. Its gonna get ugly. They have already started working on the media end of it, and I think that is where I am going to help. Some of the statistics they spouted even surprised me, and I was expecting the worst.
  6. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 09:30 AM) Hey guys, does anyone have any tips in terms of what browser to use, if having more than one window open at once is better than not, if you can call at 11:45am and keep an agent on the phone for 15 minutes until tickets go on sale....etc. One thing not to do is hit refresh too many times, because it will lock you out of the system as an automated purchaser.
  7. All I have to say is that the White Sox fans didn't have Jimmy Fallon and Drew Berrymore portray them in a movie...
  8. Interesting. He certianly has a nice resume, and so far has done a nice job of getting the Sox minor league system back on the right track. I'd hate to lose him, but he deserves a shot.
  9. Two interesting things for me. I got a call for a job interview yesterday (I am going today) and it looks like I might get put on a Crisis committee to help intervene in the Michigan City Area Schools contract negotiations with the teachers.
  10. Is that for real? If so, that just cements my belief that Indiana has the dumbest politicians in the entire country.
  11. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 08:13 AM) No. They considered it and decided against it. You need a passport though to reenter the US. Gotcha. I hadn't heard they dropped the proposal, imagine that.
  12. Nice thread
  13. I love his statement about the love of the game of baseball. There is nothing quite like it in sports.
  14. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 01:11 AM) They have members at SOSH that trump Southsider2k5's post count. Some poster named Maalox has 26,621. Although it's understandable, if you browse through the forum, how he's managed this feat. One of posts featured in the game day thread was simply the words "No" following Iguchi's HR. Damn I have some work to do Disclaimer, they have been around a lot longer than we have
  15. Hockey? What's hockey? You forget we are in Chicago, and we only get to see 41 games a year
  16. Isn't the US adopting a program where anyone coming into the US needs a visa, including Canada and Mexico?
  17. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 12:03 AM) While Oz does not deserve manager of the year IMO, Kenny is by far the GM of the year. Great job Kenny. There is no not a doubt in my mind. Think about the keys to yeserday's game. The starting pitcher was a 38th round draft pick when KW was in charge of scouting. The closer who went two innings was picked up from Anaheim for a waiver fee. The 2nd baseman who hit a key homer was a Japanese import that KW never scouted in person, just off of videos. Can anyone else make a case for executive of the year like Kenny? The only other organization that made anywhere close to the turn around that the Sox did was Cleveland, and most of those moves were made in prior years. Of the 8 playoff teams, only 2 were not here last year, and the Padres sure as hell don't deserve to be there.
  18. QUOTE(The Critic @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 07:40 AM) Lots of unusual stuff going on. Guido told us what he was drinking. The guys used foul language. They played the same 7 songs during breaks that they always play. Maury "called" Iguchi's homer. The guys used more foul language. Yep, LOTS of unusual stuff going on....... And the most unusual thing of all.... they called a winner
  19. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 5, 2005 -> 03:18 PM) While it was a great moment in White Sox history, one of the best infact, how do you explain the ten curtain calls? Why doesn't that drive you nuts? I smell a double standard. Something smells all right, except I can't quite place it... it's almost like something from under a bridge...
  20. What is there about 8 people in Atlanta?
  21. From Scott Riefort's blog
  22. Of course, it is still a race thing. :rolly I guess once you have played the race card, it becomes trump card until the end? Dispite being complete bulls*** predictions that were coming out at the height of everything, there are people still insisting that they are getting screwed because they are black. These people just need to STFU until they get proof that either #1 10,000 people are dead, or #2 they unsurface some vast conspiracy at any level of this that actually said, screw them they are black, let them die. Until then all the stuff that comes out of their mouths is worth about as much as the sewage water that was pumped out New Orleans in the first place.
  23. QUOTE(bighurt2719 @ Oct 5, 2005 -> 02:04 PM) "oh ms. vandenburg? you forgot to assign us homework! dont let our class out until we have our homework!" your comment reminds me of that one kid in your second grade class who reminds the teacher when she forgets to assign homework. grow a pair! Easy kiddo, you kinda missed the joke there
