QUOTE(chunk23 @ May 17, 2005 -> 07:39 PM) Not a bad ab by dye, AJ got lucky. That was a stupid play by Soriano. He rushed that throw on a guy who can barely walk right now. He had all day to get set and throw him out.

Garland gets a DP ball to end the top of the 2nd. He threw a ton of pitches without giving up anything. Hopefully he has a few quick innings in him.

Mench draws a walk after a 13 pitch AB. Damn that hurts, we have got to get 7 innings out of Jon tonight.

Jurassic waves and misses a nice splitter, that'll end the first 2-0 Sox. Make that leads in 39 out of 40 games.

That is why you slide headfirst. If he goes in feet first, he is a dead duck.

Mariotti challenges us
And appropriately enough the Mac, Jurko and Harry question of the day was what is the most overdisscussed sports story in Chicago? Leading the way with 31% is White Sox attendance, with many, many Kotex-Boy rips along with way. http://www.espnradio1000.com/mcneiljurkoharry.asp

Irresponsible Journalism
QUOTE(winodj @ May 17, 2005 -> 06:56 PM) Where's the proof that this caused the taking of 14 lives? Did Newsweek order the Pakistani embassy to open fire on a crowd of protesters? That logic bugs the s*** out of me. So what you are saying is that they can say anything, right or wrong, and not be responsible for what happens because of it? Theoretically, I could have "someone" tell me that you like to molest children in your spare time, then I could print it. Then your neighbors could read that report, organize a lynchmob, beat you to death because they think you will molest their children, and you wouldn't blame me for it? I didn't kill you, or tell your neighbors to kill you, so I would be OK, right?

Sheyer
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 17, 2005 -> 03:57 PM) The real loss isn't Scheyer. It's the perception of losing the states best player after a magical season. That's not even mentioning that he was coached by Weber's brother. It just looks bad. Exactly what I was thinking. What kind of team is national runner up and can't even keep their own kids in-state? That isn't a good sign.

Do i win this trade?
QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ May 17, 2005 -> 06:42 PM) Is giving up Blalock for Jeter too much? My starting SS right now is Angel Berroa and I have Chavez, Lowell, and Hillenbrand at 3B too. What do you guys think? I'd do it. The improvement is big at SS, and one of Chavez or Lowell is going to start to get hot real soon.

Maris = HOF?
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 17, 2005 -> 05:52 PM) I was always taught that the Hall of Fame was based on career stats. In order to get in, you had to be great for a long time. If Albert Pujols retired right now, would you call him a hall of famer? I wouldn't. Maris's season should be recognized there. But he should not have a plaque along with the others. 1 season does not make a career. If its based on career stats, then explain Ozzie Smith. For me it is the best of an era that belong in. Players who dominated an era deserve to be in. I also hate to see statistics of players from different eras compared as they are apples and oranges. People today look at our inflated HR numbers to justify keeping Santo out which is bull. By that logic you could look at pitchers numbers from the same era and say that none of today pitchers deserve to be in.

Mike Sweeney
Unless we do a Dye for Sweeney deal, with KC kicking in cash I would never do it. Sweeney is an injury waiting to happen, with an albatross of a contract.

SRO
QUOTE(JimH @ May 17, 2005 -> 02:14 PM) Interesting, for me it's been old Comiskey and U.S. Cellular, Wrigley, County Stadium and Miller Park, Anaheim, Dodger Stadium, Pac Bell, Bank One Ballpark in Phoenix, Arlington new, Busch Stadium, HHH Dome, SkyDome, Olympic Stadium in Montreal, Fenway, Tiger Stadium, Comerica, Jacobs Field, Royals Stadium, Riverfront in Cincinnati, Camden, Memorial Stadium in Baltimore, Astrodome, Atlanta new. In the near future, next 2-3 years, want to get to Pittsburgh, RFK in Washington, and Philly. It's a blast getting to other cities and seeing the ballparks. I forgot Busch Stadium in my list... We were supposed to hit Camden this summer along with either Pittsburgh or Philly, but well things have changed.

Irresponsible Journalism
QUOTE(winodj @ May 17, 2005 -> 01:48 PM) Actually, the story on the Bush guard story was mostly accurate. The documents were forgeries, but it did not alter the crux of the story. But lets look in depth at this issue shall we? Newsweek said that an internal military investigation was "expected" to find Quran abuse at Gitmo. It cited an anonymous source who has since backed away from his allegation. However, a former translator at the camp, made similar charges in a book published this year where he talks about the same thing. Gitmo detainees have also filed suit in US Court alleging the SAME thing in October 2004. This is not a new story. And this involves an investigation over irregularities and abuses taking place at a Prison Camp run by the US military where the evidence is showing a systemic pattern of abuse that is pretty much being acknowledged when hundreds of the people being held there have had nothing to do with Terrorism and had been held there months, and in some cases years, after the US military determined these individuals to be neither a past or future threat. Here's a great quote from our Secretary of Defense. He said that today. Maybe the President should have taken his advice two years ago when he told possible Iraqi terrorists I guess my point here is, I don't defend Newsweek for what they did. But I will say that to blame Newsweek for the death of rioters in Afghanistan for a small article in the front section of the magazine is irresponsible in its own right. Where does their responsibility for accuracy begin?

Irresponsible Journalism
QUOTE(winodj @ May 17, 2005 -> 01:33 PM) Last time I checked, Newsweek is not state run radio. If you blame the deaths of a dozen Afghanis who probably don't know what Newsweek is on Newsweek, does that mean any media that reports on abortion clinics is indirectly responsible for the bombing of a clinic because if the news wasn't reported, maybe that assclown that bombed the place wouldn't be so upset? If the information isnt' right, does it matter who reported it?
