  1. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 08:53 AM) I started going to sox games with my grandpa when I was a kid (we went from a bar in Berwyn in a bus with a keg)...and my dad had started going to games with his mother, when he was a kid....and I take my girlfriend, her kid, my dad, and my young cousins to games, to work on them...so this is obviously how things work... My grandpa recently died and I still picture him and I walking through the park, hand in hand, everytime I go there...he was my buddy and I miss him...especially when I go to games and remember that this started with him. I'm a 3rd generation Sox fan as well. My Grandpa took my dad, my dad took me, and I am going to raise a 4th generation soon. Taking kids to game is the best way to make lifelong fans. That's why I love the "family" approach on the southside. You can do the samething up north.
  2. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 04:27 PM) and you're not a Thomas apologist you say? uh.... anyway, I like Frank. I just always understood that your best hitter for average was your number 3 hitter.....Frank is no longer that guy. Sure, he's still getting a lot of walks, but if he hits, say .251 with an OBP of around .330 (the low end of the spectrum IMO, the high end I quoted earlier) is that appropriate for a number 3 hitter? btw, Rowand is a career .288 hitter, not .270. AH the old manipulation of statistics... Don't use Franks career statistics, but do use Aarons. Why is that? Because they don't fit with your arguement otherwise? Frank has a larger sample size and has much less varience on a year to year basis than Aaron does. Frank is much more likely to approach his career OBP than Aaron is, just looking at career numbers. You definately can't look at 35 ABs for Frank and a careers worth for Aaron to trend out what they will do for the rest of this season. More than likely Franks numbers will trend upward as he has been out of the game for year, and has historically shown that as he gets comfortable he gets on base and hits HRs.
  3. This is the key comment and biggest trueism about the article The Sox even get the fact that a fan base isn't built in a day, or even a year. They are literally looking 10, 15, 20 years down the road, at literally growing White Sox fans from the womb. If the kids grow up going to Comiskey, they will keep wanting to go there. There is no doubt that the kids are the most important demographic, especially in this town, where you don't change the minds of older fans. You might pull in the casual fan, but if you are going to build the base, you have to do it on people you can win loyalty from.
  4. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 07:37 AM) Singing along with Nancy brings back sooooo many great Sox memories. Some of my favorite memories in life are set with Nancy Faust music in the backround. She is the ultimate White Sox fan.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 08:00 AM) Nah, he's making me stay at a hotel. That was my idea
  6. There is one guy in the city of Chicago sportsworld who walks right into the owners office and negotiates his contract face to face, without an agent present. Frank and Jerry negotiate contracts with none of the BS. If Frank wants to come back to Chicago next year, and doesn't want an insane amount of money, he will be here. Period.
  7. Ozzie gets a pass? That's rich... What next, Frank Thomas gets a pass?
  8. wow

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 04:03 AM) As in pack your bags and get out Start one. All it takes is dad's credit card and a few friends. Plenty of pack fans here And I know someone who does hosting cheap
  9. QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 08:34 PM) Once Porkchop loses his virginity... this blog is gonna really blow up... i have some big plans. The possibilities are endless... look out Osbourne's, here comes Porkchop!!!
  10. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 03:20 PM) Okay, good point, but it seems like Frank is really being accommodated in a way that I thought Ozzie wouldn't necessary. With everyone else, they are plugged in wherever they need to be on that day. If Frank is even remotely healthy, he's called up early (after nearly insisting) and then plugged into the three hole as a dh on a daily basis. I could buy that a lot more if Frank wasn't splitting time with Everett essentially. Usually he would be playing everyday, which he has not been. Everett is still seeing a decent amount of PT at Frank's expense. Plus Frank has earned the right to lose his spot in the batting order.
  11. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 03:16 PM) So let's get to the heart of this post then: Thomas is still filling out part of the lineup card, not Ozzie. Why even test it? Frank is killing the ball and drawing walks. He isn't hurting the team in the 3 spot. Why risk a tempertantrum and the clubhouse meltdown for a minimal gain right now? If Frank wasn't hitting this might be a consideration, right now it is just kicking a sleeping dog in the nuts.
  12. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 03:13 PM) Think critically, folks. I realize it's tough to do when we're all high-fiving one another and patting ourselves on the back as fans. So you disrupt your moody superstar who has complained in the past about being moved out of the #3 hole, just to beat Kansas City, who you have beaten 8 straight times anyway? Why risk it? It ain't broke, don't fix it, especially when dealing with Frank.
  13. One for each of the 9 wins against KC
  14. MAN_HANDS!!!! Congrats dude
  15. Sox lead 5-1 going to the top of the 9th for a hold em and go sweep series!!!
  16. QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 03:02 PM) 24544 is pretty good for a Wednesday afternoon. Too bad I have to reserve all of my vacation time or else I would have trecked out for the game. The new thing in my office is to come up to me and gush about the Sox. Funny part is, before this year, there was only me and the CFO as Sox fans. Suddenly there are a whole slew of Sox fans in this office and personnel hasn't changed lol. LOL. I know the feeling. I am getting that everywhere too.
  17. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 02:59 PM) well its based on the fact that the runner would have been at first, then maybe at second and wouldnt have score on that single right? Either way its scored as unearned. Depends on the sequence. If a single comes after the groundout, it would have been earned, because a scorekeeper can't assume a double play would have been turned. So then assumption is that the runner would have been on second after the groundout, thereby scoring on the single, making the run, earned.
  18. QUOTE(shakes @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 02:57 PM) I believe it was unearned. That is how they scored it, but the question was if they got another hit after the error, would have been earned.
  19. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 02:56 PM) It is a tough call, it would probably be earned, because you can't assume a double play, but it would be the scorekeepers discression based on how the inning went. Its definately unearned now. If they would have gotten a couple of more hits to where the run would have scored even without Dye's error, it would have been earned.
  20. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 02:55 PM) if he scores on a single its unearned correct? It is a tough call, it would probably be earned, because you can't assume a double play, but it would be the scorekeepers discression based on how the inning went.
  21. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 02:54 PM) Just a hunch.. but you might want to stick around a few minutes.. I have got about half an hour... Not a minute more
  22. Jesus Dye, WTF are you doing out there???
