For the record, of all players, I think the pen might surprise to the upside of the trade market.
I think Steven Wilson finally gets moved for something (not great, but OK)
Also, put on the record for Altavilla moving as well.
Also really hoping to see some break out MiLB seasons from guys who weren't already super highly thought of, or guys who had been trending down after big expectations. Definitely not seeing any real darkhorse breakouts to any extent.
If you save $1.5m, that is a pretty darned good extra HS player, at least. Especially if they also tried to get some comp balance picks too, they could push a $20 million draft budget.
We ride this roller coaster every deadline about how 87 teams are interested, and they might be willing to give up these great prospects, then we get a disappointing return which early on is justified because this injured guy will come back and someone will fix the other slumping guy, before eventually being rejustified that we should have expected a crappy return all along.
Your point was apt in the pre draft caps days. Today it does not work like that. It is quite literally impossible to take the best possible player with each pick, or you will be over the draft caps and forfeit draft picks in future drafts. They days where you can spend whatever you want are over. if you don't have sacrifice picks you don't get overslot deals either.
