If this franchise really wanted to go somewhere, they'd be looking to maximize a return for Toews and Kane and starting over. Too much of their payroll is paying those two for years gone past. They need to rebuild and now.

Even if you take ONLY the roster of the Sox TODAY for the team. The best combo is Leury at 2B and Moncada at 3B.

It is also the exact strategy they used to destroy as much of the 2020 season as possible.

Of all of the young SP, there is no one I am holding on tighter to than Vera. He has true ace potential.

And a way better option at 3rd base.

As Whataboutisms go, We did it before, so why not keep doing it the same way is a pretty awful one. There is nothing wrong with learning from what you know today and adjusting your thinking to match. As for Curt, I always kind of felt his peak didn't last long enough, or wasn't great enough to overcome the rest of his career. He didn't hit any of the big key numbers. He never won a Cy Young. Close, but not quite for me.
