the old Corbin Burnes thread, we have a new Burnes thread
southsider2k5 replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Sox are being configured to not require Kopech's presence until he is ready to go, or is able to be called upon at a later point. The team recognizes that even if his stuff is ready to go from April 1, that his historic conditioning won't allow him to go a full season. Spending a ton of assets on another guy in a similar boat, but then depending on him would be 180 degrees of contradictory to that. -

See that is the thing. Literally no one is penciling in Michael Kopech for 200 innings. The discussion has always been him working back in slowly to work him through an artificial innings cap. -

Has that been anything more than speculated about? -

This was a solid post until the last sentence turned it into something else. Let's face it. We have been fed the line that the Sox weren't grindy and tough enough last year. That is what got us TLR and Adam Eaton. Michael Kopech is a guy who fits right into that club. -

I don't think anyone has questioned the stuff, but rather if he can do it for 200 innings for the first time in his life. -

Now that you say this, didn't he also throw in the fall league in 19? Or am I thinking of someone else? -

Maybe they make him manager in a year or two. -
Finally, this thread can be locked.

It would take a new national initiative to be able to create a program that provides funding for training, as well as fits all applicable SEC, Fedl and FINRA rules and regulations on the topics. These field has tons of rules and regulations about what can be taught, how it can be taught, and who can teach it.

I am President of a local scholarship found with about a million dollar endowment fund. I have done this for nearly 10 years in a few different terms. Most of the people who serve on the Board are teachers. There are none of them I would allow to teach my cat about personal finance. These people are incredibly smart in their fields of specialty, but that field does not include finance.

You aren't dumping the farm system for a guy like Burnes to be a mix and match guy, and if he isn't a playoff pitcher, that is a real problem with this trade. A deal like this values him as a TOR, and it also loses the depth that would make up for him not being able to be that guy. -

I guess there is no argument to something without roots in reality. -
I mean, I get it, for sure. The problem is there are LOT of things kids need to learn that they aren't going to learn at home. Schools are already straining to teach what they have to teach. There are a ton of 21st century skills out there that this generation of kids will absolutely have to have to be successful, and our education system is largely based on 19th century values. The first and most obvious problem here is that you'd have to have someone to teach the classes and fund the needs that go with it. We all know what is happening to educational budgets these days, and more unfunded mandates aren't going to help that.

I really think it is more important to quit pretending like this wasn't as serious as it was, and that it instead was some sort of a harmless cosplay.

It's quite literally the point though. We are talking about dumping the farm system for a guy that is supposed to get us to the playoffs, and we don't even have a high expectation that he will be able to pitch that long? We already have pitchers who aren't ready to make the leap, but somehow because this guy has stuff, he will? This seems like one of those plans with two steps missing the middle. No one doubts the stuff, but we are here with a guy trained to run the mile, and planning on winning the marathon. -

So who was the last guy to successfully go from 60 innings to 180 innings (or more if we are looking at the post season)? -

We aren't in "start somewhere " mode. The irony of course is that Kopech has a more recent season where he has hit 140 IP, yet no one thinks he is ready for a full seasons worth of innings. -

He made it through 2 months. To bet he is going to make it through a full season for the first time in six years is ridiculous. -
George Springer to Toronto. 6 years/150 million

Because it means Reynaldo Lopez is getting 15 to 20 starts this year. -

Yet, we are going to pencil in Burnes for whole seasons? -
How much should schools be responsible for, and when do we start paying teachers to be experts in them?
