  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 29, 2009 -> 10:08 AM) Your new avy gives me the willies. I'll be watching you.
  2. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jan 29, 2009 -> 09:49 AM) Yeah, but all that crying wolf when there are no zombies is really gonna suck when zombies REALLY appear, and everyone thinks it is another joke. You are so right!
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 29, 2009 -> 09:55 AM) I got my TV for five dollars. Perhaps they did too. Not brand new. It's old, I assume. Like the three in my garage I got for free. So, they should wait for these converter boxes to be available for $5 or free.
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 29, 2009 -> 09:55 AM) I'm also thinking that a lot of people who didn't really need the boxes were confused and got a coupon anyway, which limited the number available for those who really do need it. Another problem will come up when they get to the store with their coupon and find out they still have to pay 15-20 bucks out of pocket!
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 12:31 PM) Which is of course...why the government had that large program to help people buy the converters available...until it ran out of money in the late part of the previous administration. Are you seriously going to point fingers at Bush for this? Give it up. He's gone. You've got your "change." The problem was they allowed 2 coupons per household. If you're so damned poor that you can't afford your own converter box then why do you have 2 TVs? If they would have limited it to one per they wouldn;t have run out of money.
  6. Are Nazi zombies any scarier than regular zombies?
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 27, 2009 -> 08:13 AM) I don't think the question of who leads off should dictate how you build your team. It only happens once a game, and its more important to field the most talented team you can. THEN you decide who among those are the best table-setters for the 1 and 2 spots. In order, the concerns for this team should be: 1. 4th and 5th starting pitchers (partially answered) 2. CF 3. 2B 4. Backup C 5. Final couple bullpen spots 6. Best Kosher replacement
  8. I hate people that, when I'm holding the door open for them, put their hand on it to "hold" it open. Apparently they think I'm only tricking them and plan to slam it shut on them just as they walk into the doorway! Another one: People that wave me on at a 4-way stop AFTER I've already waved them on! I'm not going to get pissed off if you accept my wave. I was trying to be nice, not start a wave-off!
  9. "Married to" is now "Anchored too" How freakin' true!!
  10. I always get a strange look when I tell people I don't like chocolate. My wife is glad because when we get a gift of chocolate or chocolate cake at a wedding she gets twice as much. Disclaimer: I will eat peanut butter cups (More PB than chocolate) and I like chocolate milk, but not white milk. (Sorry knightni, did I break the racist rules with this one?)
  11. QUOTE (The Critic @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 12:10 PM) That wasn't a surprise either. He likes Jurko and he doesn't like Harry. McNeil kind of rubs me the wrong way. I don't necessarily think he's a bad guy or anything, but he's too Coppocky for my liking. He was a Coppock "understudy" so it's probably natural that it would rub off on him. No, I knew they didn't really care for each other, but I didn't expect the things he said about Jurko vs Harry to be so "one sided".
  12. McNeil's article is in the Sun Times today. No surprises except he wasn't as kind to Harry as he was to Jurko.

    I confess to you

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 19, 2009 -> 06:51 PM) Do you have a bunch of random big ass boxes in your house too? I do. It's really hard for me to throw those away. Yes. My wife brings them home from work all the time, but most of those get filled with the kids toys that they don't play with anymore and we're going to sell in the yard sale we've never had.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 19, 2009 -> 07:03 PM) Boy that's a way to dispel all of those hoosier stereotypes... Yeah, and when I got home I beat my wife and kids and went to my girlfriend's / sister's.
  15. Thanks. Me and the boys went to Hooters to watch the games. I was feeling pretty good by the time I got home!

    I confess to you

I can't throw away a coffee can. They're just really good for storing stuff. The only problem is most of that stuff is too big, so I've got 20 empty coffee cans laying around in the garage.

    Winter Car Trouble

I guess it could qualify as a "battery changing story": Before my wife and I got married she had my car (The Grand Am I spoke of earlier that I had to change the alternator about once a year) down at Purdue and she was working at the movie theater. Now I live in NW Indiana - about 85 miles away. Well, the car wouldn't start after work one night and I knew what it was, but what could I do from NWI? She said one of the guys at the theater thinks he remembers how to change one, but isn't sure. I thought, "Well, maybe he can help out. It's pretty simple on a Grand Am and I can almost walk him through it over the phone." BUT, through the conversation I realized that he meant he thinks he remembers how to change the battery! I just said, "Don't let him anywhere near my car. Get a ride home and I'll be down in the morning."

    Winter Car Trouble

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 16, 2009 -> 10:09 PM) In all seriousness, I am mechanically retarded, and I can do an alternator. It is literally a 15 minute job that you will end up paying about $200 for. On most cars, yes. I had to replace mine on my '91 Grand Am about once a year. I even replaced it in a Pep Boys parking lot in Philadelphia once. But, my wife had a Sentra that you have to remove the starter to get to it and then it was still a "blind" job and you had to do it from underneath the car. It took me about 5 hours. It probably would have been closer to 3 if I weren't drinking that day.
  19. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 08:24 AM) When you guys send friend requests can you put a note saying who you are on the board? Good point, but don't worry - no one's going to send you any anyway.
  20. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jan 12, 2009 -> 12:48 PM) when i tried to load soxtalk on my computer it still said site was under maintenance, when i checked on another computer, it was up and running.... i then went back to my computer and downloaded the newest version of firefox and I am now able to see the site.... not sure if its like that for everyone, or if its a problem or what, but there still may be people trying to look at the site from the old firefox and still getting the maintenance screen Did you try to refresh? I had the same thing, but it came up once I refreshed and cleared the cache.
  21. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 12, 2009 -> 01:33 PM) So far not one single actual southside city dweller. Looks like I need to move back in with the folks. Loser!
  22. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 10, 2009 -> 07:53 PM) I just hung out at the Soxtalk Facebook group and harassed everyone into being my friend. Damn it! You got me.
  23. Fines like these are usually per day until you get the proper permit. Someone dropped the ball!
