QUOTE (Soxy @ Oct 31, 2008 -> 08:28 AM) I was going to say if any party ever needed a bar, it's one with 10 screaming children. That's why we have ours in the garage - one fridge with beer, one with juice boxes. After the kids are in bed we karaoke!!

QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 30, 2008 -> 04:34 PM) children parties usually. Not in Indiana.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 30, 2008 -> 10:42 AM) I had to, my ex would only plan parties were there was a bar Well, she was married to you, wasn't she? (Sorry, it was too easy)

My travel is for pleasure so I always bring my soft cooler that fits in the side pocket of my luggage and holds about 12 bottles of beer in my hotel room. I also always bring my running gear - there's no better way to get a feel for a new place (as long as you can find your way back to the hotel).

QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 29, 2008 -> 03:50 PM) Yep, learned my lesson. I use to do all the planning and organizing. I don't do any, but I pretend to be interested.

NS, becareful driving around town - worst configuration of roads I've ever experienced (And I used to drive for a living). I used to always tease my wife (A Purdue alum) that they were laid out by Purdue Engineers. I can't help you with lunch, I always went to the "normal" places like Applebees, Don Pablos and the like.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 29, 2008 -> 10:29 AM) It sounds like fun because we're guys and would be relegated to the back of the room with the other dads and really have nothing to do but whip out the debit card. Weren't you divorced once?

I may be wrong here, but I would let him pick up the stuff that isn't yours immediately (It's not yours afterall - why inconvenience another innocent party) and then sue him in small claims court for the $250 and your missing items. I think the goodwill will gain you points in the court's eyes.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 28, 2008 -> 10:46 PM) It sounds like fun. Sounds like craziness to me. But then again so does any kids birthday party. Why did I have to have so many?

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Oct 22, 2008 -> 08:16 PM) No mention for Forrest Gump? When Jenny reveals he has her son, and when he talks at her grave always sends chills up my spine. Good call. It's a Wonderful Life - When Harry says, "To my brother, George, the richest man in town." Because he's not rich in money, he's rich in friends and family and that's what truely matters. Sniff.

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Oct 22, 2008 -> 02:22 PM) I disagree. If you have a solid relationship, there should be no trust issues. And with two accounts, there's no fighting over how much a pair of shoes/new purse cost vs. a new Wii or bowling ball or something. As long as the bills are paid FIRST, and money is put away to be saved, there should be no problem balancing a budget. Plus, if you have a shared account, there's a chance one party can siphon it off without you knowing. This way you aren't completely reliant on the other person in case something happens. I disagree. With one account we don't fight over how much shoes and bowling balls cost because we have a solid relationship. When we married we became ONE. Your two paragraphs completely contradict each other. In the first you say you shouldn't have any trust issues in a good relationship so feel free to have separate accounts. But in the second it sounds as if you're CYA in case your solid relationship siphons your account.

Call me old fashioned, but I don't think there should be "independence" when it comes to money in a marriage - at least not with any significance. Get a cookie jar and put extra money in there and both are free to take with no questions asked. I would feel like something is being hidden from me if we had separate accounts. And it can only lead astray to a good balanced budget.

I've done it in the back of a pick up around down (less than 25 mph), but not on top of a vehicle or at a high rate of speed.

The Rookie - When he calls his son to tell him his Dad's going to be a Major Leaguer. Rudy - When he gets the sack. Home Alone - When the grandfather and granddaughter are reunited. Field of Dreams - Same scene discussed earlier. For Love of the Game - During John C Reilly's "We're the best team in baseball right now..." speech. Hoosiers - "I love you guys."

I don't like these registration drives by third parties. You should only be able to register at a government entity - state building, county courthouse, DMV, etc. It opens it up to too many questions. I wouldn't have a problem with a third party like ACORN renting a bus and driving these people to a place to get registered. Who knows if actual election fraud is behind this or if it really was people that were too shy to talk to others. And will they know the true answer before the election and will the electorate be happy with the result of the investigation, regardless of the victor? See? Too many questions.

QUOTE (Soxy @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 12:49 PM) I can't remember the name of it. But we watched a game in some bar that was off the main street. Each time I've gone I've eaten in a different local pub, and the food has always been awesome. And there's always a game on. I wish I could remember the name of my favorite one. It's off the main street, and you have to take a few steps down (it's a little below street level) and it was just really cool. Clean, great food, fun atmosphere (and not as touristy as some). Cool. Thanks. Good to hear that the food was good at all the places.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, we've already planned to go to Ommegang. It's a guys trip, are there any good pub like places or sports bars to watch the World Series?

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 01:07 PM) I don't see either party having better standing than the other on "standing fast to tried and true principles". They both jockey around. I mean, in the longer perspective, look how many major issues (minority protections, environmentalism, etc.) have moved from one side to the other. Now? No. But, in the past, yes. That's the problem I have. It's seems to be worse than ever that they do what will get them (re)elected instead of what is "right."

QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 01:39 PM) I would say that most of those things are a result of poor leadership within the party (it's fair to single out Bush for a lot of it too). They've seemed to be more concerned with who can be the most like Ronald Reagan and less with sticking to conservative principles. I agree that the party has lost its direction, but it's been due to questionable decisions, not moving to the left. They're just all over the map right now. I guess I can agree with that, but IMO, I said, IMO, it is "left" to try to please the "issue of the day" instead of standing fast to tried and true principles. That's been my biggest problem with the GOP, and national politics in general in the last 10+ years. It's really turned me off and I used to be a junky - I was one of the originals that mixed it up in here that caused the creation of SLap and the 'buster. I just don't have the heart for it anymore.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 10:53 AM) Bailout package aside, how has the GOP moved left? You could consider the spending leftist I guess, but that's directly linked to the aggressive foreign policy approach of Bush's first term. And they've completely abandoned civil liberties. Bush has moderated his environmental approach since he's in the "looking out for his legacy" phase, but the party's stance hasn't really changed. That's the only position McCain is really to the left on though. McCain/Feingold Government size Fiscal responsibility / Balanced budget Rescue plan Other problems I have: Never moving on Social Security reform Poor execution of a border fence Poor execution of Iraq war and justification for going The entire party completely forgot what got them elected in '94 and abandoned the Contract with America Many of these problems I have can be directly attributed to Bush, but IMO, McCain is way further left of where Bush was supposed to be in 2000. I had high hopes for him and he realy disappointed.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 09:26 AM) This election hasn't necessarily resulted in a flip for me. But, I have voted for more Republicans for President (2) than I have Democrats (1), and I've voted independent once. But in recent years, I am voting Dem more often. Not because I've changed my view of things - but because of the GOP's move away from what I liked about their party (smaller government, individual rights) and more embraced the stuff I didn't like (social conservatism and warmongering). The GOP has moved right, and away from me. When McCain was nominated though, I thought we'd seen the beginning of a shift back to the core values of the GOP that had been missing. I was torn on McCain v Obama. But alas, McCain must have been feeling the pressure from the right, because he was swung further right than he was, picked a far-right VP who also happens to be clueless, and has decided to run an intensely, insultingly negative campaign. So, I'm on the left again. Ha! I believe the GOP and McCain has moved further left (His choice of Palin not withstanding) and away from me. All about perspective, I guess.
