  1. Most of the stations on Indianapolis Blvd in Hammond / East Chicago are the same price. I need to fill up my 5 gallon cans for the lawn mowers. Yes, it's very sad, Mike.
  2. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 06:03 PM) lol, not that Lincoln Ave, that's outside the city limits and nowhere near where he meant. I'll chime in here and say even if Giordano's may not be a consensus and people think there's better pizza, it's still better than most any pizza you will get outside of maybe New York. Please tell me you're not comparing New York pizza to Chicago pizza. Bite your tongue, mister!
  3. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 02:36 PM) I saw that Star Trek thing when it first opened and I'm not going to lie, it was pretty damn cool (and I wasn't a star trek fan, although I have seen all the movies once). The Star Trek Experience has recently (Or will soon) close. The only time I went to see it I missed it, but I heard it was well worth the trip off strip to the Hilton. MGM closed their theme park years ago.
  4. QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 03:06 PM) Ok I might suggest that then. It's just the lure of that we've never been to Vegas before, and you'd love to stay on the Strip, but getting a bus for only $5 a day there is good value. You'll like downtown. Don't worry. Get a beer football!
  5. I used that thread at Fat Wallet to get $59 at MGM last summer! Good stuff.
  6. QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 02:41 PM) Ok I'll try my best here; 1 - Looking to gamble mostly, and then get drunk at bars. Both are the highest priority. Don't think we want to do much sightseeing (e.g Hoover Dam, too far away). Getting drunk cheaply is probably more ideal though, I don't want to be paying $8-10 a beer now. I'm into poker, but some of the other guys are more in to blackjack and roulette. 2 - Hotels we're looking at $50 a night for the most. There's probably 4-5 people going, maybe more, so if you know any really good hotel deals (otherwise we're probably staying in a hostel, and I'll be doing enough of that over the next year). 3 - No car. Will be walking, and maybe getting taxi's if we have to. I would suggest staying downtown (Binions, Fremont, 4 Queens, Fitzgeralds) - cheap hotels, beer, food! They have a shuttle (Called "The Deuce" because it's a double decker bus) that can take you to the strip all day and most of the night for $5 per day (unlimited rides).
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 01:23 PM) Really. No green needed for the first post. I really believe Hawk will be an MLB Hall of Famer for his broadcasting career. I can't pinpoint specific things, but his actions, words, demeanor (Searching for the correct word) for the past few years has me thinking he's thinking about it as well.
  8. QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 02:18 PM) I know. I see this being a great disaster. I'll actually be looking forward to my 4 year old melting down and the timeshare people showing us to the door. It's gonna be classic. We got hoodwinked once. We were sitting at a table with our own seller and the main dude was going through his presentation and asked us, "How often do you go on vacation?" We answered, "Once every three years." He looked at the seller and said, "Good luck." The free tickets we got were for "The best new magician on the strip." He was trash! All his tricks were the ones given away by that masked magician on Fox. And the free buffet we got was garbage!! The food and show wasn't worth the 3 hours we wasted or the $18 cab ride. I'm sure it'll be real interesting with a 4 year old. It'll probably be the only time she? he? is an absolute angel in public. (Trust me, I know. I have 3 -6,3 and 19 months) Let us know how it goes. When's your trip anyway?
  9. Timeshare presentation? Say it ain't so, Buffalo!! See the Bellagio fountains Go to the Grand Canyon (Maybe a helicopter ride) Hoover Dam Red Rock Canyon Check out this forum. (Just ignore the people that flame you for taking kids to Vegas)
  10. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 01:26 PM) I vouch for the one on Randolph. I vouche for the Jackson locale...and there's an OTB upstairs!!
  11. He'll retire too early to go hunting.

    Whiffle Ball

    QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jul 12, 2008 -> 04:45 PM) There is no "h" in wiffleball I'm pretty sure there used to be. I don't know when or why they changed it, but I sent away for the official rules when I was a kid and I stil have them. I'll check tonight. By the way, that was when they sold the balls in individual carboard boxes. Remember that? The one I remember had Rick Sutcliffe on the box.
  13. You have to go to Wrigley Field!!
  14. God bless him. He had a smile on his face until the end.
  15. Check out the "ugly" on Chicago. Yahoo The good: Chicago is uniquely divided by its two baseball teams -- crosstown fervor here is matched only in New York -- and uniquely united by its Bears. Wrigley Field remains one of the world's great sporting destinations, U.S. Cellular Field is a modern baseball standard, Soldier Field is recently renovated and the United Center housed some guy named Michael Jordan. Throw in a local recreational sporting tradition -- 16-inch softball leagues are terrifyingly competitive here -- and Chicago's a near-perfect place to live if you love sports. The bad: Besides the Bulls, "winning" isn't exactly a habit in Chicago. The ugly: Jay Mariotti; the weather.

    Whiffle Ball

    QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 10:49 PM) Wow, that is it's own thread right there. I have had debates with adults who grew up all over the country about how certain games were played and what the different game details were. It's amazing how many state and even neighborhood variants there were for games like Ghost in the Graveyard and Kick the Can. The name of the safe spot is one example. Was it base, home, home base, goal?? for whatever reason, in my little corner of the south side, it was pronounced "gool" or "ghoul". I never had to think about how to spell it, but that's what it was. Then the details of being safe on gool. Could you stay there forever or was there some sort of limit? Our limit was the "It" person reciting the ever-popular "one, two three, get off my father's apple tree." My cracker-ass Florida wife thinks I just make this up, but I thell her that's how you play the game. Sometimes if you couldn't get all the way to gool, but someone was already there you could still be safe by grabbing to them, 'cuz, you know, "electricity!" And the biggest controversy of all - when the "It" person gives up on finding everybody or it was time to go in fo the night. . . Cracker Wife says sou had to call out "all the all the oxen free!" While I admit that makes more sense, she's flat out wrong. You called out "Oly Oly Ocean Free," which is meaningless gibberish, but I'm sorry that's the way it's done. Sometimes to add a little flourish, you could also go with "Oly Oly Ocean Free Free Freee. . . last one out is a P - I - G!!" Yeah, 10-15 kids all up and down the block playing kick the can, lightning bugs flickering here and there, was awesome. We absolutely lived for summer growing up. I love you, Jim, and yes, it was called a gool in NW Indiana as well. But when the "it" guy wanted to quit he just did and never told anyone. What kind of crap is that? Would we let him play the next night? Of course.
  17. QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 02:44 PM) I haven't bought nothing with it and I really don't plan to. Everything is more expensive so compared to what stuff cost last year it will be used up indirectly. Maybe you should spend it on this.
  18. OC didn't do anything wrong, but I tend to believe Cowley here. He's there everyday, and like SS said, if he can piss off JD...
  19. 2/3 went to our church, the rest went into savings.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 06:36 AM) I went contra to the numbers, but I went with Danks and Cabrera. Danks has just been a rock at the bottom of the rotation who has just been great in every start for a while now, and ultraconsistant all year long. Cabrera I picked because his bat and Ramirez who would be my runner up vote, are just turning the line up over and putting key men in positions for the big bad middle of the line up. They both are also getting props from me because their defense for the last month has just been an incalcuable benefit to the Sox. "Are you stupid or somethin'?" "Stupid is as stupid does."
  21. QUOTE (YASNY @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 11:08 PM) I was at the game where Thiggy broke the record. "We're happy for you!"
  22. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 11:47 PM) "........I wouldn't mind D.J. with Farmer either" That would be like throwing meat to a hungry wolf. Maybe things have gotten better with Hawk and DJ, but it always seemed like Hawk didn't respect DJ or his opinions. Maybe it had to do with the age difference, or who knows what. If you listened to even 5 minutes of a broadcast, you knew who wore the pants in the booth. DJ would always try to take the high road and back down, eventually it became ass kissing out of fear. Right on the money!
  23. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 07:39 AM) So that's how X-W-L is calculated? Of course. Doesn't everyone know that?
