  1. Someone did a profile on all these interlopers of recent times: Young, white, male, skinny, scrawny, ugly, unathletic, drunk, stupid. Suggested punishment: Castration. Don't let them breed. Return them to Wrigley Field.
  2. I'd rather see Frank beat up Sweeney.
  3. Randa is almost as big an idiot as those clowns who ran onto the field. He threatened not to take the field??? Like many jocks, he likes to be in front of a camera with an audience. Does he think he runs baseball now? So that he can control whether or not games are to be played? Just shut up and play the game. No one was hurt, and the guy will be prosecuted. If he doesn't want to play big league baseball, I'm sure the Royals can find someone to take his spot.
  4. Must be the equivalent of five full seasons. Don't feel so sorry for him. With four years in the majors, he is vested for his pension plan. Plus, he'll probably be back fairly soon. I wonder if we are still paying his salary.
  5. The Sox need a wake up call. Manuel needs to be sacrificed. Koch's blown saves notwithstanding, they are playing s***ty baseball, and it is not going to stop overnight. If this goes on much longer, it will be a long season.
  6. As soon as that idiot ran onto the field and caused all that commotion with all the Royals players coming over, my paranoia took over and told me that this would fire up the Royals in the ninth inning.
  7. Even Pete Gammons said that for a pitcher who throws 98 mph, hitters get very good swings against Koch.
  8. The Sox simply cannot get Sweeney out in the clutch. He knows it, too. As for Koch, I hope he stays in the bullpen for the rest of the series. We do not need to be swept.
  9. Is there another team who hits us as well as the Royals? I don't think so.
  10. Was Ingram promoted from W-Salem or did he come the DL? Is Holt a legitimate prospect, or was he a throw-in on the Koch trade?
  11. I just read the 4-7-03 issue of The Sporting News, and they said if JM gets fired before his contract is expired (2004), that Wally is the prime candidate to replace him.
  12. Seems like he shoud be at Birmingham.
  13. Regarding Thigpen and his "Save" record, have they liberalized the definition of a save since Thiggy's days, or is it the same. I'm sure it was once tougher, but I don't know when they changed it. I'm sure this record will get broken soon by some save specialist on a good team who will go in every single time there is a save on the line.
  14. Both Jeremy Reed and Anthony Webster have gotten off to slow starts. Hope they get hot soon.
  15. No way Carlos was ever rated higher than Maggs. Maggs has been in the bigs two years longer than Lee. This is Lee's fifth season, so I believe he is eligible for arbitration at the end of this year.
  16. I think some of it started with our owner. Let's face it, he isn't the most lovable person on earth. If Bill Veeck were alive and running the show, it might be a little different. Then there is the constant comparison to the media darlings on the North Side, much of which is media generated. Then, whenever we make it to the post-season, we gag. You could probably write a book on it. In fact, one of you college kids could do a term paper, thesis, or whatever on the subject. I must admit, though, that I did not know other teams disliked us.
  17. Boy, he had great stuff that one year. Saw him at the end of his career, and he clearly wasn't the same pitcher. Last year, I was really pullind against Smoltz to break Thigpen's record.
  18. Your comments make a lot of sense. Very few hitters can effectively and consistently pull an outside pitch. It usually results in a weak grounder to the left side or a soft fly to center. Aaron Rowand was doing the exact same thing Saturday. That single thing is the best way to prolong a hitting slump. What I don't know and would like to know is if JM and/or the coaches even bother saying anything to these guys, because they keep on doing it.
  19. I can't believe we made Detroit resemble a big league team. The Tigers kept giving the Sox an opportunity to win the game, but we kept refusing. We are not a good team. Too many holes. Stewart looked pitiful. No balls. He should have been yanked earlier. Can you imagine what a good hitting team would have done to him today? Frank should be dropped down in the batting order. He has no business hitting third. I don't care who goes there. Crede, Lee. Didn't Carlos hit well there last year while Frank was skulking? Aaron Rowand deserves a quick 2-3 week vacation to Charlotte. He is not doing the Sox any favors out there. He is not doing his career any favors, either. He tries to pull everything. Looks lost. Proverbial deer in the headlights. I don't see him getting any better without a trip to the minors. Trouble is, he might not start at Charlotte. If he goes another month like this, he might be toast.
  20. Something is wrong when we can't get a clutch hit against a guy like this in how many opportunities?
  21. Wright is due to throw three innings on Thursday, April 17th at Charlotte.
  22. Loaiza might be a one year wonder for us. I believe that the option we have for next year is at a pretty hefty price -- $ 3 Million or so. Can't remember for sure. If he wins 15 or so this year, he will present an interesting dilemma to the brass.
  23. Sandy also played pretty well for the Rockies after the Sox traded him last July. They really liked him.
