"Guts," by Chuck Pahlaniuk
QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 05:44 PM) These things sound suspiciously like urban legends. What proof is offered to back these stories up? The impregnated sister thrown in at the end is most certainly an urban legend imbellishment. But the prolapsed rectum and large intestine is, sadly, very real. 150 cases a year was a shockingly high number to me, but it may well be that high. I remember about 5 years ago when a 9 year old kid died down here by having his bowels and intestine inverted and sucked out of him in the exact manner. Most likely it was a pre-adolescent 'good feeling' he got sitting on the intake pipe. If I recall the story right, he lived for several hours after the doctors had told the family there wasn't any hope.

Recess Appointment in the works...
I was buying the attorney/client privilege line about the unreleased Roberts docs during Reagan and Bush I. But it sounds like such a privelege (sp?) may not exist in this instance. can anybody here give clarification on the matter?

"Guts," by Chuck Pahlaniuk
That is just brutal. Hell of a survival instinct story on one hand, but stull brutal. Let this be a lesson, kids. Playboys and hand cream never killed anyone.

Challenge for Democrats
QUOTE(TheDybber @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 10:58 AM) Where you go to school doesn't matter. As I've gotten older, I've realized that the true point of going to school is to learn how to learn. You can do that at any school if you put some energy into it. From CVS to New Trier to Exeter...there are just as many John Benders as there are Brian Johnsons. Yeah, but who wants to aspire to this? Nope, wrong one.

A new kitty...
QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 04:16 PM) Those are so ugly they're cute. Very friendly I've heard. Another one I love is a "maine coon cat".. very pretty but not so social. Yeah, they are supposed to be really friendly. And they feel really warm to the touch because of the lack of fur.

A new kitty...
If I had the $$ (and if I momentarily lost my mind and thought we needed another cat) I'd get a sphynx. Those things are wild looking. Plus, no hair=no hairballs.

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 10:37 PM) What is considered a "back-to-school" purchase? How about a nice 32" LCD TV? Yes, but it has to have a special chip in it so it only gets PBS.

Minimum Credit Card Payments Doubling
My situation is similar, Kap, in that it was school tuition that put my wife and I in the hole. We both had teaching or research assistantships throughout grad school, but those stipends were dirt and didn't come close to covering teh cost of living even very humbly in this area. So we racked up $40K in student loans by the time we each got our doctorates. You can live well within or below your means for a long time after that and still have a really f***ing hard time digging out of that kind of hole. To make ends meet and to make the loan payments, you end up leaning on credit more than you would like.
