  1. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 11:19 AM) ACtually from what I understand of Islam, these people are breaking their own rules, just like the Christians who kill in the name of God. The rules for Jihad are incredibly specific, and are very clear in that innocent people are not to be harmed at all, especially women and children. They also specify that both property and nature are not to be harmed either. If anyone has more speifics feel free to add to this, I am going off of memory from stuff I learned after 9-11 so I might be a little fuzzy. I'm not any sort of authority on it either, but you are correct that mainstream Islam authorities view the extremist view of jihad as very much against the will of God. There are several types of jihad, and mainstream Muslems concern themselves primarily with personal spiritual and intellectiual jihad and overwhelmingly denounce the radical militants who dress their horrific acts up as a legitimate religious jihad.
  2. QUOTE(winodj @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 10:38 AM) Hey, let's leave Salon out of this. I happen to like them a lot - as biased as they are. If only they didn't make me view a stupid sponsor ad before getting to their stories. ..
  3. QUOTE(DePloderer @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 11:10 AM) ...................................................(speechless) How is the mood of the rest of the country over there now? Hope none of your loved ones were affected in any way, and our hearts out to the victims and their families.
  4. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 05:20 PM) Okay so O'Donnell says Cooper's source is Rove. And Cooper says his source allowed him to release his name in court so he wouldn't have to spend time in prison like Miller. When are we going to find out already? When does he testify? Judith Miller's crappy, unverified reporting – relying almost entirely on Chalabi's misinformation and the pseudo-corroboration of the same misinformation by the administration and some segments of the CIA – remain the biggest shots in the arm for the cause of selling the Iraq War to the American public. That said, I wouldn't discoutnt that she had a personal axe to grind with Joe Wilson (notwithstanding the fact that that she did not run a Plame story) since he was instrumental in revealing some of the most flawed intelligence being used to fuel the call to war. The scrutiny on the false Niger nukes story certainly renewed/intensified scrutiny on Miller's own erroneous 'aluminum tubes = nuclear program' and 'Iraqi "scientist" points at the sand = WMDs' NYT stories. More than likely, the unnamed "senior administration official" who outed Plame to Judy Miller was also the one who pseudo-corroborated the bad information coming from Chalabi and the other Iraqi exiles and the Iraqi National Congress. I support the rights of journalists to not reveal their sources and hope the federal blanket protection measures are passed. But if she testifies I hope she is required to reveal who in the administartion was vouching for the information she ran with when she put together the stories that made the case for war so much more compelling to the masses.
  5. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 07:32 PM) What I got when I wrote the IL ACLU about this seeming violation of civil liberties: Neil, thanks for the heads up on this story. I don't know much about the matter, but have been told by my colleagues in NYC that the individual in question here actually was attempting to create a stir within the organization and had misrepresented his true intentions when he asked for recognition of the chapter. Apparently, he was actually associated with an anti-ACLU group and was looking, according to those in New Mexico, to "infiltrate" the organization. I don't know much more, but think that it is sad that any of this came to pass. Ed Well, that is certainly an interesting twist, if there is any truth to it. If you keep up the correspondence with the IL chapter guy and he gets any more information on it, please pass it along.
  6. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 10:09 PM) Winter never hurts this badly. What about when your boogers freeze??
  7. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 02:24 AM) I havn't answered like the last 4 questions. I think I've dropped out of the lead. Probably not, since I didn't play for 3 or 4 questions either until yesterday. Had I known you were taking a breather I would have made sure to log in and play...
  8. Sorry, George. Maybe we can try taking the training wheels off again on your next birthday...
  9. Happy Birthday, I hope you have a swell party. Say hello to Chuck E. Cheese for me.
  10. QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 08:18 PM) You know, if we were Norway, all these alleged torturers would be looing at community service, at best! http://www.aftenposten.no/english/local/article1071523.ece 120 days of prison for one and 90(!!) hours of community service for brutally torturing somebody like that!?! I don't care how old the crime is - that light sentence is bulls***.
  11. Ah Belgium... the Disneyland of Beer. One country that definately has its priorities straight.
  12. One of my two favorite Flubby jokes. If you're all nice maybe I'll share the other one as well...
  13. QUOTE(mrzo2733 @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 10:51 PM) I don't think I've ever heard a pre-Steve Perry Journey song. I didn't even know that there was pre-Steve Perry Journey until you said it, but I looked it up and there is. Yeah, the first album with ex-Zappa drummer Ainsley Dunbar on them were kind of prog-rock/fusion at times. Very different from the later albums. And I do give the band more grief than they probably deserve. Perry had about as pure a rock voice as any band, but the albums just always seemed way over-produced compared to the stuff I was into at the time. Plus, this girl who shot me down in high school was a big Journey fan, so I think I've been subconsciously taking my frustrations out on the group for the last 20 years.
  14. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 06:12 PM) Was he planting the seeds of liberty? No, he was paraquating the pot plants of freedom.

  16. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 10:17 PM) I've been listening to "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey after just about every Sox winner this year. It just seems fitting. Yes, if you don't have a penis. I Kid Because I Care Sorry, I just have a very low Journey tolerance.
  17. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 10:15 PM) Shingo looks to be back and if Vizcaino turns it around we won't have to worry about the pen. We just better not need them for the next few days. And what is the status on Hermanson - is he out on bereavement leave as reported earlier?
  18. QUOTE(fattyguy78 @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 10:12 PM) and also a lot of props to Vizcaino he was gutsy tonight Hell Yeah!! Nice outing for Viz - prolly wiped out but it's gotta be a confidence booster.
  19. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 10:08 PM) Feels good winning a game that went extra innings. Way to go guys. That's the first game the Tiggers have lost in extra innings this year.
  20. QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 10:05 PM) Thank you Uribe Thank you Frank Thank you Shingo I really did not think we were going to win that. Put Viz in there too!
  21. Shingo!! The pen is going to be wiped out after this game, but they've sure done their job tonight. Time for the bats to pick them up dammit!!
