    Summer Drinks

Off tomorrow for five days of vacation with the family on Captiva Island on the west coast of Florida!! Had to strip down and put together a traveling bar for drinks on the beach, limiting myself to one plastic milk crate's worth of bottles and mixers and a new Rocket mini blender. The Captiva drink menu will consist of: • The Obligatory Coronas and lime • Piña Coladas (frozen) • Margaritas with El Jimador reposado (frozen and rocks) • Traditional shaken Flor De Caña daiquiris • Strawberry Daiquiris and Margaritas (frozen) • Pusser's (84 proof) Painkillers • Ron Del Barillito 2 Star and coconut water • Pitu Caiperiñas • Coruba Planter's Punch And last but not least, a new quick and dirty planter's dubbed the Captiva Cooler which will be concocted thusly: 1 oz Cruzan light rum 1 oz Coruba 1 oz lime juice 2 oz pineapple juice 2 oz orange juice 0.5 oz homemade grenadine 0.25 oz 2:1 simple syrup Shake with crushed ice and pour unstrained into drinking vessel of choice.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 06:57 AM) Wow, I thought the Up opening scene with the wife dying was much more sad than Wall-E almost dying. i agree it wasnt as funny as expected, but I still thought it was well done Yep, hard not to get choked up watching that time lapse sequence. I think it was one of Pixar's best, working on lots of levels for me.

QUOTE (ICP! @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 11:19 AM) Going there for my Honeymoon! Should be an XXX rated good time for us! There's a reason it's called the Happiest Place on Earth! And TMI or not, my second child was conceived there. So. . . watch how much the your lovely bride drinks at EPCOT or it could be Daddy Time for Shipps.
  7. Is it asking way too much of the Indians to win both games of the day-night DH against Detroit today? Boy on top of a Sox win tonight that would be sweet.

Quinarvy has given you a pretty darn good roadmap, actually. The only thing I would definitely change is I would not schedule Magic Kingdom for the end of the trip — in case of rain, must-do attractions being down, etc. Also if you have young kids there as absolutely no way you'll be able to get away with just one day at Magic Kingdom — nor will you want to. You'll be there for multiple days so it's a no-brainer that you'll have Park Hopper passes. They come in very hands if you just need to hit one or two rides at one park before moving on, or if you want to hit a fireworks display or an evening of drinking around the World Showcase at EPCOT after you've done something else by day. The best tequila selection in Florida, and some of the most exotic margaritas you'll ever encounter are in a little bar called Tequila Cava inside the Mexico pavilion. A sipping flight of very good tequilas will set you back less than $20. Animal Kingdom closes earlier than the other parks (6-7pm) in consideration of the animals, so you'll still have a lot of time in the early evening to do something else after your Animal Kingdom day. If you have kids that are dinosaur fans, the T-Rex Cafe at Downtown Disney marketplace is an absolute must-do dinner spot. It's like a Rainforest Cafe where all the animatronics are dinosaurs. If you get rained out of outdoor activities one day, consider doing an inside Day at Disney Quest at Downtown Disney West End. Lots of virtual reality activities and every 1980s-era stand up video arcade game imaginable set to free play to keep us old farts entertained. If you are staying on site at a Disney Resort tell me where and I'll give you some specific recommendations there. During weekends for resort guests certain parks have "Magic Hours" where they will open the gates at 7am and you can knock out soem of the big attractions before the general public shows up. Take full advantage of the free WDW transportation system — You can get from anywhere to anywhere in the park (though it might take you two buses). There is also a useful direct Monorail connection between Magic Kingdom and EPCOT. There is a very under-utilized back entrance to EPCOT form the Disney Boardwalk entertainment complex that brings you right into the World Showcase between England and France. There are also two good putt putt golf spots on WDW property if you need a break from the hectic park pace, one is right next to Blizzard Beach and the other is close to the Boardwalk and EPCOT.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 09:42 AM) How many of you guys have seen DUEL, the first Spielberg movie? What a great first movie...so much intensity and drama out of a singular situation. A very good made for TV horror/thriller movie, right up there with the original Salem's Lot. Also easily the best thing that Dennis Weaver ever did.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 04:46 PM) Inception down to 85% on RT still great but doesn't look like it will be universally loved. Hopefully this gets more love from the general public than Dark City which was one of the movies that inspired Nolan to make Inception and is one of the greatest Sci Fi movies ever made. It almost certainly will because Nolan is directing but I expect that with how high concept the movie supposedly is that there will be a lot of people who hate it. Dark City immediately came to mind when I saw the first trailer for Inception. Great film, I agree.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 14, 2010 -> 11:41 PM) Have any of you guys ever seen the movie Convoy? I'm most of you are too young (it's from 1978), but it was on last night and I watched it at work. First time I've seen it in years. They just don't make movies like that anymore... No they don't. . . luckily. Although Ernest Borgnine is always quality entertainment! The film was based on the novelty song of the same name that came out a couple of years before. . . "We got a great big Convoy rockin' through the night — We got a great big Convoy, ain't she a beautiful sight!" As much as anythingm that song kicked off the big C.B. craze of the mid 1970s that had all sorts of dorks like my dad spending money on C.B. radios and antennas to put in their 1972 Chevy Impalas so they could play trucker on family vacation. Amazingly, Sam Peckinpah directed the film, though he was supposedly totally boozed and coked up at the time. More surprisingly (and sadly), I think the film was the highest grossing picture of his career.
  14. Fun video. I like this pain-free version of the first half of the season a lot better than reality. Amazing how far away the woes of the first two months of the season seem now.
