  1. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 04:35 PM) Dems have brought ONE plan up for vote, not sure what other 'plans' you speak of. They can TALK about anything, but until it comes up for a vote, it is just talk. Given that a bill like the debt limit bill has to, if I am correct, originate in the House of Representatives. The person who sets the legislative agenda for the House of Representatives is the Speaker of the House. I wonder how many Democratic led bills regarding the debt limit have actually been allowed to come to a vote.
  2. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 12:51 PM) Show me the poll. If it was the one I saw, you could also say a majority of Americans want spending cut. I think it was 12% in favor of nothing but cuts, 10% in favor of nothing but tax increases and the rest ranging from small increases and massive cuts to large increase and minimal cuts. I certainly do not want mine raised. You don't have to cut them, but the government takes more than enough from me. http://beta.news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/p...-143421891.html http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/st...ns-favor-both-/
  3. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 05:57 PM) It's a joke, from Deadwood. I probably shouldn't have just assumed people would get it. I've added links. In short, I wasn't giving some anti-gay rant, Rex...and I apologize for being so vague. The back entrance reference is because, in the show, Swearengan wouldn't allow Wu to enter his tavern through the front door...in the literal sense, he had to go around and use the rear entrance so the other patrons wouldn't see him. This was an awesome show. Neither of these are SFW, and neither are for those that are against swearing. I never had HBO so I never saw the show.
  4. I just left T-Mobile after three years. I bought the G2. I loved this phone. Til the screen cracked from such rough treatment as sitting in one place without movement. It's a known issue (LCD Bursting) in this phone, as well as problems with the hinge. Enough of an issue that T-Mobile and HTC discontinued production of the phone a couple months ago quietly. Now I'm on ATT with a HTC Inspire 4G and I kind of like the phone, not going to lie.
  5. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 03:15 PM) f***ing San Francisco cocksucker Wu...use the back f***ing entrance next time you come into my establishment. There are a number of reasons why this post is inappropriate. But primarily, its because the resigning congressman had an affair with a woman, which would mean he did not suck any cocks.
  6. I think we are headed for a constiutional crisis of sorts about the Debt Limit in less than ten days. The truth is that the debt limit is silly. The debt limit needs to be raised for spending that has already been approved by the US Congress.
  7. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 02:37 PM) There was no outrage, and I agree that what he did was unprofessional and wrong and he should have apologized like he did. But I do think it's bulls*** to essentially be held out for ransom from this guy and his group - "prove you're sorry and either give me money or your presence at our event." I would hardly call an invitation and fundraising letter to be a ransom demand.
  8. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 12:48 PM) Come on. Even if 1% of the gay population was truly "harmed" by what someone writes in the sand to a friend, that's well within the norm for pretty much anything that people can overhear in everyday language. At the risk of wading into this cesspool, I will say that this is unacceptable for the same reason that its unacceptable to use racial slurs in the workplace. It's inappropriate for the workplace. And although this may still be a game, last time I checked, it was still their workplace and usually during a game, that would be considered "on the clock" time. If the only punishment is an invitation to a gay softball game, I fail to see the appropriateness of your outrage.
  9. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 11:36 AM) im cheering that an American company is taking money off the sidelines and making a capital investment in its business. Now granted, 1/2 of the order will be to an overseas company, with the other 1/2 to a US company. But its a good sign for corporate America as a whole. Hoping the trend continues. Maybe United, Delta, Southwest, etc will want to upgrade their fleets too? Rumor is Delta is shopping and will need to refleet eventually. Especially for international service as those 757s and 767s are rapidly aging. United's refleeting needs aren't as acute, especially with the absorption of Continental since Continental has a much newer fleet on average than United did. Southwest probably won't need to make a huge order at any time as they seem to continually refleet their 737. However, because in order to save half the deal that they were about to lose to AMR, Boeing essentially promised a 737neo, a new engine option for the 737 which would reduce fuel consumption by 15-20%. The reason Airbus has had such a great year with the new A320 is that the NEO option will go a long way to reducing fuel costs. In a world of $100/barrel oil, it makes so much more sense to take a plane designed with that in mind rather than a plane with an engine design from the days of $25/barrel.
  10. Can I just say, its hard to get out of a debt cycle when you get in one. Because when you're trying to pay off debt and build a savings so that future debt isn't as necessary... when that emergency expense comes up, you just kinda end up f***ed regardless.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 11, 2011 -> 09:15 AM) This is the closest thing for me too. It's funny, moving out of an area where I can regularly see White Sox baseball, how quickly I forget about the actual sport. Because my access is limited, its easy to just sort of forget about it sometimes. When I lived closer to Chicago, I watched a lot more... but now my access is limited to online box scores most of the time. If I lived in Chicago and the Sox moved out of state, I'd probably feel the same way. I might still be a fan, but out of sight - out of mind is the most likely answer.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 12, 2011 -> 10:20 AM) Nah, I want to spend 110% of your income. I'd settle for 55% of his income.
  13. PS: Even though your card may have a generous late payment policy, it doesn't mean you should ever make a payment late. The one time you do, maybe the one time it bites you in the ass.
  14. I would recommend a Discover card actually, unless you plan on using your card internationally. Discover has, traditionally, had a policy of forgiving one late payment a year (something I took advantage of twice.) But that's if you're really looking to go by Credit Card brand. If you are a member of a Credit Union, get a credit card with them. It usually means a lower interest rate, and more flexibility with terms, and more forgiveness if you forget to make a payment now and again. I ran into some financial trouble a couple years ago, and my credit union told me they didn't consider a payment to the credit card late until five days after the payment date. Not all CUs are that flexible, but because you represent a bit more than a customer to them, they tend to have better terms.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 6, 2011 -> 10:18 AM) Big day for Crude today. It keeps trying to test $100. It would be a big step forward if it closes under $100 for the weekend. Down around 97 right now.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 5, 2011 -> 02:33 PM) I knew they had been punishing the metals, but I didn't realize that this had turned into a broadbased commodities rout. Go speculators! Someone on CNBC said that yesterday, if Oil broke 106 today, that it would plummet because it would break through a triple bottom or something. Gas is also down 5% today.
  17. There were a couple caveats to that number. Oregon instituted a new emergency unemployment program that inflated the number somewhat, and New York had 25,000 spring break layoffs that were a week to late to be adjusted as seasonal.... Still not a good number though. But, oil and gas are going through the floor. Oil down 6% today, from 108 to 102 or so.
  18. QUOTE (Tex @ May 2, 2011 -> 10:31 PM) Sounds like SPLASH weekend on South Padre. I'm just saying its time we got to the important issues of our day.
  19. I just wanna know who brought the beach balls to the white house last night for the spontaneous celebration. And who brought the cheerleaders? or the guy in the stars and stripes spandex bodysuit on the light post?
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 27, 2011 -> 02:37 PM) How about live up to your promises? As nice as it would be to see the President walk a picket line... (it would probably result in me becoming a yellow dog Dem for life), there are so many reasons why keeping a hyperbolic promise like that would be a bad idea.
  21. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 09:53 AM) Republican sticking points on passing a budget are defunding Planned Parenthood, the EPA and financial regulations. Glad they've got their priorities straightened out. Also preventing DC from using District assessed taxes (read: non-federal funds) from providing funding for abortions.
  22. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 18, 2011 -> 11:31 PM) Loss of jobs and businesses? Don't businesses pay other taxes besides sales tax?? I don't know many companies that earn enough income from referral links that would be anything other than a self-proprietor, or a small co-operative.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 14, 2011 -> 05:12 PM) Well it appears most of the affiliates are trying to move their business out of state, which actually hurts Illinois more than it helps them. They really didnt add any tax revenue to their bottom line, just ousted some more business in state. If these affiliates aren't collecting taxes from sales made from Illinois residents in the first place, exactly how is this hurting Illinois again?
  24. More importantly than the minutiae of law: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=140002042731702 Event Sat April 2 Zombie Walk against Governor Walker
  25. Oh in Michigan, the governor is getting the GOP dominated legislature to grant him emergency powers to dissolve legitimately elected local government bodies and replace them with his appointee.
