QUOTE(The Critic @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 10:30 PM) 2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke and it will be gone in two days. So they're saying Coke helps digestion? I replaced the majority of my Coke consumption with water a few weeks ago and I generally feel better, my pants fit better and I don't get that mid-day drag anymore. If you do put meat in coke, it will dissolve, but it takes a few days, for a small piece of meat. A big T-Bone would take longer. Get a 2 liter of coke and a tube of mentos and see what happens. pour the tube in a fresh bottle and enjoy your fountain.

Dubai Ports selling out
DP World would have had control over cargo screening and would have had some input for security hiring. It would not be controlled entirely by the Coast Guard.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 02:39 PM) Agreed. LOL! That's never gonig to happen. The Mexican government won't allow companies to pay their workers more than $3/day. Even if they'd allow us to tell them how to run their country, they don't have the economic infrastructure to pay their workers wages comparable to ours. The only way to realistically solve this problem is tighter border security. And if Vicente Fox doesn't like it, too bad. If workers in Mexico only made $3 a day, they'd be in the same position as Haiti.

Look, I'm all for uniformity. We have a law that says that the federal government will not do business with a company that refuses to do business with Israel. This deal violates that law. We say we won't deal with terrorists, or states who sponsor terrorism - yet the UAE has done just that. Why should they get special treatment. Oh yeah, economic concerns. Well, guess what, f*** economic concerns. We've spent the last four years keeping knitting needles away from old ladies on planes, and developing a color coded system to tell us how panicked we should be on a daily basis - but we don't pay attention to port security. We rubberstamp this deal without even following the full procedure regarding security concerns even after the Coast Guard says it has concerns about the deal. We had people who signed off on the deal not know about the deal. And suddenly its about islamophobia? No. It's not. I'm sure the UAE is great and all, they even gave Michael Jackson a new house and a job and such but until they become at least as responsible as Saudi Arabia in regards to fighting terrorism, I don't want them running my ports.

I think there needs to be a way that the people who live here and are undocumented but are otherwise obeying the law can get an opportunity to stay here legally. I also think we need to do a better job of stopping the flow of undocumented immigrants from coming through illegally. One way we can do that is by forcing Mexico to improve its labor standards for its citizens. BTW, the reason that this law is particularly heinous is that it is worded in such a way that churches can be held liable for giving comfort to someone who is illegal. Meaning that they can technically be arrested for giving an illegal immigrant a meal at a soup kitchen.

It's only a bad idea if we don't kick all the other foreign interests out of controlling our exit and entry points to this country.

Undocumented Worker Statistics to chew on. More than one out of every four drywallers is an undocumented worker. (27%) More than one out of every four gardeners is an undocumented worker. (26%) More than one out of every five housekeepers is an undocumented worker. (22%) One out of every five construction workers is an undocumented worker. (20%) One out of every eight hotel industry workers is an undocumented worker. (13%) One out of every eight food manufacturing workers is an undocumented worker. (13%) One out of every ten food preparation workers is an undocumented worker. (11%) Source: Pew Hispanic Institute More than half of hispanic adult immigrants in this country less than 10 years make under $350 a week.

Interesting Editorial
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 03:10 PM) Its an instinctive and natural first reaction to be upset by this violent act, and to wonder aloud how some moron street thug managed to get an AK-47. I wonder that myself. But placing the blame for this incident on the shoulders of this administration, Congress or the gun makers is just not supported by any logic. Statistics show, over and over again, that bans on certain types of guns do only one thing - take them out of the hands of those who are unlikely to use them illegally. Criminals won't heed the bans. They are useless, and in fact create more crime by creating a new black market enterprise. I would rather focus on the things that actually caused this incident - poverty, drug use, gangs and a building culture of violence. ^^^^^^^ As well as I could have said it.

The press is a big reason why Clinton got impeached in 98/99. They got their mitts on a story and beat that dead horse over and over and over again. The press is a big reason why people didn't forget about the Swift Boat ads. It's not what they said about it, but because they saw some story there and beat that dead horse. Look at political stories now. They are rarely about the issues. They are about the horserace. Democrats are falling apart! Republicans are falling apart! This poll says this! What about, this candidate supports this policy and this is why? Where did that go?

When we were being told about how this war would be run, we weren't told that there would be 130K plus troops in Iraq three years later. In fact we were promised significant troop reductions within a year. So that would be unexpected. We were told that we would be greeted with flowers and candy. So an insurrection would be unexpected. So I guess that would be unexpected too. So I guess that makes it news then.
